H1 tag in wordpress

Hi there! I'm having problems to locate the h1 tag in wordpress (in each page) in order to optimize the pages for SEO. When introducing text it starts with h2. Where can I locate it?

You could likely change it yourself if you're familiar with html, php and WordPress tags, JM. You'll have to edit the source code of theme templates.
The h2/h1 tags would need to be changed for each page type (especially main index, pages and posts - there may be multiples of each). You can edit these fairly easily using the Editor under the Appearance link in the left sidebar of the admin dashboard.
For any files you edit manually, you will have to go back and re-edit them each time you update your theme, as they will be likely be overwritten during the upgrade.
Also, the styling of theH1/H2 tags is controlled in the CSS stylesheet. You'll need to edit that as well if the titles don't look the way you want after changing to H1s. (And will also need to be re-updated after each upgrade.)

P.S. Be sure to make a backup of the template file before editing so you can easily restore if you run into problems. Just copying and pasting it into a txt document is usually enough.

Hi Paul, is there a way I can solve it myself? just replacing the h2 tag with h1 tag in the text? how can I notice that the h1 tag is implemented? via source code?

Your theme has not been coded correctly for best SEO performance, Juan Miguel. It is using
tags for the page titles instead of H1 as it should. No idea why a developer would do this as it's standard practice (especially in WordPress themes) to have the pager title as the H1 on the page.
That said, the H1 tag is not a tremendously significant ranking factor for on-page optimization. It would be good to get it fixed, but I would put that at a fairly low priority. When you feel the really important SEO work has been done and you have a bit of time, you can see about getting the H2s changed to H1s. (Best would be to ask the theme developer to fix it, so it can be done correctly in the code, and other users of the theme will benefit from the fix as well.)

In most themes, but by no means all, the h1 tag is the name of the post or page you're on.

Google pulling in wrong title tag!

How bad is it going over 70 character for title tag length?
I know less than 70 is recommended. I am about to run a script to create some title tags and a few will be between 71-74. Is going just the few characters over ok until I can get in there and manually do them?

How to add canonical tag
Hi, I read through many of the forum questions dealing with the overly dynamic URLS and I think I understand. Please let me know if I know what I am talking about: If SEO moz is saying I have 20 pages (mostly search and home/index pages) with overly dynamic urls, I would go to the that particular page and add the following code between the head tag: This code would cause Google to go to this page instead of the following duplicate index pages: 1. http://www.about-sports-collectibles.com/index.php?pcsid=0a83aa7119cf3d80a1d018634ec4ec94&p 2. http://www.about-sports-collectibles.com/index.php?pcsid=18b220fc62628b013a51c6f26209df50&p There are a total of about 8 of these index pages. The problem is that I can't figure out where I would access each of these duplicate pages to add the canonical tag. There is only one home page with coding. As far as the search pages are concerned, I would not want Google to follow those pages would I? If that is the case, what would be the best code to add between the tags? For instance here are a couple of the overly-dynamic URL pages for the search pages: 1. http://www.about-sports-collectibles.com/index.php?p=catalog&mode=search&search_in=all&search_str= 2. http://www.about-sports-collectibles.com/index.php?pcsid=50354d5791e627dc2be6c86528154a5e&p=catalog&mode=search I hope I am not overwhelming anyone with my questions. Rel canonical tag question
Im trying to to fix my duplicate content problem with my catagory pages in my shopping cart. I have read about adding a rel canonical tag to the page so it links back to the main catagory page. So if I add a rel canonical tag to the main catagory page it will show up on every other page for that catagory like page 1 page 2 and so on and it will have the tag linking back to the main cat. That should fix it it right? Now that being said I cant seem to add the tag invetween the head tags. I can add it to the body where I can add content. Will the rel canonical tag work outside the head tags? Any other ideas on this fix? I contacted my people that host the cart to see if they have any features to help this will see what they say.
