Need help locating a 404 link
-
My reports are showing a 404 error for a link to a page in our WP site for which we changed the URL months ago. I can't find where the link is coming from. I used Screaming Frog, but can't find where it might tell me the origin of the link, only that it exists. I am pretty sure it's internal.
Can someone please tell me how to find the originating page so I can remove the link without having to comb through every page of the site to look for it?
Thanks!

Hi Lynn,
Thanks for your time on this.
I just found it. Couldn't use your key command (on a Mac), but went through it more methodically and found one 'true' in column 'D'.
Sorry my eyes weren't sharp enough first time through.
Thanks again.

Hi Gina,
Which report are you seeing the 404 in? If it is in a moz report but not in the csv download that is a bit odd. Are you sure it is not in there? I usually select all in the excel and then do the ctrl-shift-windows-L together (great trick can't remember what it is called) which gives you filter dropdown arrows on all the column headers. If you go to the 4xx column and click that column's arrow you can quickly see if there is a 404 true hiding in there somewhere. If not, maybe a mail to support is in order since the page should be in there.

I'm on a Mac, so can't use Xenu's... :o(
Broken Link Checker finds the link but doesn't give me a clue as to where it's coming from..

Thanks, Lynn.
I exported the csv from the report page that shows the error and also from the drilled down report page and cannot even find the offending link or URL in the csv. It's not showing any 4XX's. They are all "false".
Any thoughts, please?

Hi Gina,
If the link is showing up in the moz reports you should be able to find it by going to the report page and downloading the report as a csv (top right). If you filter by 4xx client errors and then scroll along all the way to the right in the csv file the referring url is shown in the last column.

Thanks, Mystery Man!

Xenu's Link Sleuth is a great tool for that (and other things), although some people complain is not as ready-out-of-the-box as they would wish, it has a fair enough learning curve.
Here's a blog post @SEOmoz about it (with some instructions): Xenu's Link Sleuth - More Than Just A Broken Links Finder
But you can give a try to this Broken Link Checker Tool first, maybe it'll save you some time if it can find it.
Good luck!

Help needed on what to do with deleti
Hi, i need some help as i am lost on what exactly the best to do. My website http://goo.gl/KxN8X6 I want to delete my community http://goo.gl/SbY39r which is giving me a nightmare when it comes to seo friendly. The /community has too many errors with seo and I think is harming the site growth. Now I want to delete it but if i delete it I am going to get a lot of 404 errors. So I was thinking to first add a Noindex and nofollow to it and in a month delete it. Could you please let me know if this is a good strategy? or if you can suggest something better. I really don't want the community. Thank you for your help.

Internal and external links showing in Webmaster Tools but not in MOZ
Hi there I set up a campaign 2 weeks ago but I am registering zero internal or external links for my website. It's a small site with only about 300 external links but they show in Webmaster tools but not in my link report or Open Site Explorer. Do I need to wait until the next OSE crawl or is something wrong with my set up? Thanks in advance! Laurie

Find 404 errors
Seomoz is currently reporting 404-errors, without saying where these errors are found. What good is this report when it does'nt say a word about where I can find the page linking to the 404? Screen: http://filer.crenia.no/NJPZ I really think it's time for Seomoz to prioritize upgrading the pro tools. Feels like they haven't been updated in ages..

Too Many On-Page Links: Crawl Diag vs On-Page
I've got a site I'm optimizing that has thousands of 'too many links on-page' warnings from the SeoMoz crawl diagnostic. I've been in there and realized that there are indeed, the rent is too damned high, and it's due to a header/left/footer category menu that's repeating itself. So I changed these links to NoFollow, cutting my total links by about 50 per page. I was too impatient to wait for a new crawl, so I used the On Page Reports to see if anything would come up on the Internal Link Count/External Link Count factors, and nothing did. However, the crawl (eventually) came back with the same warning. I looked at the link Count in the crawl details, and realized that it's basically counting every single '<a href'="" on="" the="" page.="" because="" of="" this,="" i="" guess="" my="" questions="" are="" twofold:<="" p=""></a> <a href'="" on="" the="" page.="" because="" of="" this,="" i="" guess="" my="" questions="" are="" twofold:<="" p="">1. Is no-follow a valid strategy to reduce link count for a page? What metric does the On-Page Report use to determine if there are too many Internal/External links? Apologies if this has been asked, the search didn't seem to come up with anything specific to this.</a>

...and won't complete the download. I have been extremely patient, but it's stuck there no matter how many times I try or long I wait. Ideas?
