Thousands of external links
-
My site has supposedly over 4,000 external links from it. Is there a good piece of software that could scrape my site that tell me from which page all the links originate from and where they're all going?
I'm surprised that the number is this high because our entire site is only a few hundred pages.
Here's the site XXXkidecalsXXX.com
(just remove the XXX for the URL.)
If you want to weigh in on any other issues you see with the site, I'd be happy for any suggestions in general.

No I don't think you should worry about this at all. Yes, link juice is passing to those social media sites but this is a good thing. This does not affect your PR by any means, it just means what juice that has entered your site will also enter (at a degenerated rate) the social pages. But that doesn't mean the link juice passing on is decreasing the juice that originally came to your site.. Does this make sense? Link juice is a confusing concept.
It drips into your site, and then drips into external links, but that drip doesn't empty your pool... bah. I think the juice reference is what's confusing about this because why wouldn't juice move on and leave?! But it doesn't. In other words, let juice flow to your social media pages. That's a good thing. It means those pages will start to rank better as well further promoting your brand. Especially for a company like yours where I think you could really capitalize from a strong/hip social media presence.
As for having the repeat links... It's really up to you. Clearly, as I said, your site is heavily reliant on social media so perhaps it makes sense. Google Analytics can tell you where people are clicking..perhaps you should look at that and see if people are actually clicking your footer links. But I wouldn't spend too much time worrying about this it isn't going to penalize you by any means.
**This is all just my humble opinion. (I feel like that should be my signature heretofore)

"1) do you really need to repeat those links?"
I don't think so... what do you think is the best way to promote social sharing?
"2) why do you care how many external links your site carries?"
I'm worried that we could be losing our juice by having so many compared to how many links we have pointing to us. Do you not think that I should worry about this at all?

This is spot on ^^
You actually have 10 social media links on each page. 5 in header, 5 in footer. Screaming Frog will tell you this although I hear the software isn't free anymore..
But just as Federico did, simply looking at your page tells me the same. It's definitely the social media links.
My question would be twofold:
-
do you really need to repeat those links?
-
why do you care how many external links your site carries?
-

Hi,
Have you considered the social media links you have in each page? 5 in each page. If you have 800 pages there are your 4,000 outbound links.
Hope that helps!

Massive Influx of Total Links - But External Links are Dropping?
Hey Moz Community, I was checking out the Links on one of my client's sites, as they were hit with spammy external links about a year ago, and noticed a large influx of Total Links to the site. According to Moz, external links have actually dropped over the last few months, so I can only assume they are internal links. But, I don't see how my client could add so many internal links over the past 5 months, as they don't do much besides upload new products (they're an ecommerce clothing retailer) via Shopify. They haven't added much over the past half year either. Total links were about 130K in Oct 2019; today, the site has almost 1 million. I've attached some screenshots for reference via Moz to better illustrate the issue. Appreciate any insights into this. Thank you in advance! hhCCUsk lyGltZD

Link building with AddThis URL
We've begun using AddThis for tracking our social sharing. AddThis has been adding the snippet to the end of the URLs on our pages and we've been finding that people linking to us are linking to the URL with the snippet. AddThis says this isn't a problem for SEO. Is this correct? Here is an example: https://www.harborcompliance.com/information/how-to-start-a-non-profit-organization-in-colorado.php#.UunCfPldVig I want to make sure this is not affecting our SEO in any way, particularly that Google would see this as an affiliate or paid link since it has the "#". I may be crazy but I just want to make sure!

Deeper Anchor Link Finding Tool?
Hi! We are still working on removing some paid backlinks from an old SEO company. Used Removeem.com which uses OpenSiteExplorer. Thought we had them all cleaned up. Removed many and disavowed the rest. Submitted a reconsideration request, but our amigos at Google said, "No, no no...." So, the example offending remaining link they gave us was xyzs.blogspot.com. However, the anchor text link that Open Site Explorer was just xyzs.com. Interestingly enough, Google told us to look at their list of links and this sample links was not even there. (neither version.) So, we signed up for majesticseo as it integrates wtih removem via api if you have an account, but that didn't really add any links. Is there a deeper tool we can use? Any ideas on how to locate some of these hard to find anchor links that Google is talking about? Any other tools out there? Thanks!! Craig

Redirect link from a particular domain
Hi guys/gals, I have a few domains and blogs which I use really for a bit of fun and experimenting. One of the domains (abc.com) wasn't doing much but has a few decent links built to it. I redirected this domain to an active blog (123.com). Here's the problem: There's a particular external link to the homepage of abc.com which drives a lot of traffic but isn't relevant to the content of 123.com which it redirects to, causing a huge bounce rate from this link. Is there a way (maybe using using htaccess) that I can redirect traffic from this one link to another domain completely? I've contacted the owner of the external site but they are unable (or unwilling) to change the link. I hope I haven't lost you all but shout if you need any clarification. Thanks in advance!

Why would you remove a canonical link?
Currently, my client's blog makes a duplicate page every time someone comments on a post. The previous SEO consultant told the developer to not put a canonical link directing it to the main blog post. Did taking out the canonical link result in these duplicate pages? My question is why would she recommend this action? Is it best to now add in the canonical link in or should we implement a 301 redirect or insert a index: no follow? Would adding a canonical link keep duplicate pages from happening in the future?

How much effect does number of outbound links have on link juice?
I am interested in your thoughts on the effect of number of outbound links (obls) on link juice passed? ie If a page linking to you has a high number of obls, how do you compute the effect of these obls and relative negative effect on linkjuice. In the event that there are three sites on which you have been offered the opportunity of a link Site A PA 30 DA50 Obls on page 10 Site B PA 40 DA50 Obls on page 15 Site C PA 50 DA50 Obls on page 20 How would you appraise each of these prospective page links (ignoring anchor text, relevancy, etc which will be constant) Is there a rule of thumb on how to compare the linkjuice passed from a site relative to its PA and the number of obls? Is it as simple as page with 10 obls passes 10x juice of page with 100 obls?
