HTML Encoding Error
-
Okay, so this is driving me nuts because I should know how to find and fix this but for the life of me cannot. One of the sites I work for has a long-standing crawl error in Google WMT tools for the URL /a%3E that appears on nearly every page of the site. I know that a%3E is an improperly encoded > but I can't seem to find where exactly in the code its coming from. So I keep putting it off and coming back to it every week or two only to wrack my brain and give up on it after about an hour (since its not a priority and its not really hurting anything). The site in question is https://www.deckanddockboxes.com/ and some of the pages it can be found on are /small-trash-can.html, /Dock-Step-Storage-Bin.html, and /Standard-Dock-Box-Maxi.html (among others). I figured it was about time to ask for another set of eyes to look at this for me. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Could be, I suppose. But it's been happening on and off for months now. I just mostly stop caring after a bit, clear out the errors and get annoyed when I see it pop up again. Its one of those things that doesn't actually cause a problem but I can't help feeling irked by its existence. All in all, I'm perfectly fine with the solution being "Google is wrong, leave it alone"... that's basically what I've been doing anyway.

I did a Screaming Frog crawl of your site, but didn't see any malformed links. Maybe it was a temporary issue that just hasn't been cleared from Google's cache.
-
Sorry, I wasn't getting email notifications that people had answered. I checked with our remaining coder who said that was there on purpose (much like Highland stated) and he's going to take a look deeper into it once he has the chance but doesn't know why its showing up like that.
-
in XHTML(which he's using) and HTML5, it is proper formatting to add a closing slash to tags that don't have a closing tag. So br, hr, input, etc. all need that closing slash.

This is a bit of a long shot, Mike, but it's such a weird error that long shots might pay off
On your code around line 769 you have a horizontal rule inserted, which has an extra, unneeded "/" before the final ">" of the tag. I can only assume that Googlebot is thinking that's an attempt at a relative URL?
Cart is empty
*** * *** **//This may be the problem?
You wouldn't have noticed it as the horizontal rule is still appearing as expected.
Like I said, long shot, but since the cart appears on nearly every page, that could explain it.
Dying to know if that's it, so lemme know either way?

The page is being linked from only internal pages on the site not from any outside websites or scraper. Some of the pages WMT says the incorrect page is being crawled from are listed above.
-
Where are you seeing the error in Webmaster Tools?
If it's in the Crawl Errors section, you can click on one of the links and click the "Linked From" tab, which will show you what pages are linking to the malformed link. A lot of times these will just be external scraper sites that are just linking to your site improperly.

GMB Bulk Upload Error
Hello! I am continuing to have issues with the bulk upload option.Currently, there are 12 non-verified locations in a location group in my GMB account. I have approximately 6-8 more that need to be added to this group via bulk upload. When uploading the spreadsheet, I receive an error reading "You've exceeded the limit for the about of locations you can upload to Google My Business in a single day. Try again later." It seems to happen specifically to the locations that aren't in my GMB account already. The others, the ones already in the account, are fine and simply read "No updates" when the bulk upload sheet is read. Everything else is marked as an error. Why is it marking some listings as nonviable when they come in via the bulk verification spreadsheet, which has been downloaded directly from the links Google has provided, and filled in with the help of the sample and amenities list? How do we finish uploading all of the remaining locations?I have another group, separate group (same company, groups split into US and International) under my name that may also need a bulk upload - what can I do to avoid this error in the future? Can they still be bulk uploaded to my account after I upload the first location group's listings? If you could provide any guidance, I'd be very grateful. Thanks in advance!

Subdomain 403 error
Hi Everyone, A crawler from our SEO tool detects a 403 error from a link from our main domain to a a couple of subdomains. However, these subdomains are perfect accessibly. What could be the problem? Is this error caused by the server, the crawlbot or something else? I would love to hear your thoughts.

Uninstalled WordPress, now getting 200 errors of 500 response code
Hello there, A little while ago I installed WordPress on the server I use with Bluehost to try out a theme. My business domain name is also the primary account on this server. WordPress was causing some serious issues on the server so I uninstalled it, and now I have over 200 "500 response code" errors according to WebMaster tools. I've included a screenshot of some of them. Could anyone advise me on what to do about this? Thanks so much! MYbW6

Dynamically serving different HTML on the same URL
Dear Mozers, We are creating a mobile version for a real estate website. We are planning to dynamically serve different HTML on same URL. I'm a little confused about the on-page optimization for the mobile version. The desktop version pages has lot of text content and I strongly believe that made us ranking for various keywords. Now if I'm creating this mobile version do I need to serve all the same exact text content on the mobile version too? I found zillow.com using the same method, their desktop version has lot of text content and mobile version is clean without any text. Does this affect the sites SEO anyway? Please help, share your thoughts. RIyas

Site rebuild without HTML extension = broken links?
I have a client and his site is pure HTML. He made huge amount of link building with some hundreds of links point to example.com/target.HTML Now we decided to use WordPress with the same site structure. If we use the exact same URLs but without the HTML ending will it cause broken links? Is there any best practice for this kind of change? Many thanks for any idea!

404 error - but I can't find any broken links on the referrer pages
Hi, My crawl has diagnosed a client's site with eight 404 errors. In my CSV download of the crawl, I have checked the source code of the 'referrer' pages, but can't find where the link to the 404 error page is. Could there be another reason for getting 404 errors? Thanks for your help. Katharine.

Remove more than 1000 crawl errors from GWT in one day?
In google webmasters tools you have the feature "Crawl Errors". This one displays the top 1000 crawl errors google have on your site. I have around 16k crawl errors at the moment, which all are fixed. But i can only mark 1000 of them as fixed each day/each time google crawls the site. (This as it only displays top 1000 errors. When i have marked those as fixed it won't show other errors for a while.) Does anyone know if it's possible to mark ALL errors as fixed in one operation?
