How to do this 301 redirection
-
Hi there! I have two domains with the same content. Some guys in this forum posted that It would be convinient to do a 301 redirect from one ".com" domain to ".es" domain (my potential market). I just tried to set it up in the htaccess file but it dind't worked at all.
Something like:
redirect 301 http://wwww.domain.com http://www.domain.es
I just configure in the webmaster tools the domain www.domain.com as preferred domain insted of http://domain.comThe same with the other domain.
Any help?
many thanks

Hey Juan,
On the old domain have this in your .htaccess file
RewriteEngine On
RedirectMatch 301 (.*) http://www.domain.es/$1Then you may want a separate HTACCESS rule to forward all traffic without www. to use it
RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} !^www.
RewriteRule ^(.*)$ http://www.%{HTTP_HOST}/$1 [R=301,L]I hope that helps, but I have a feeling I may have missed the point of the question. Let me know if I did.

Try this
Options +FollowSymLinks
RewriteEngine on
RewriteRule (.*) http://www.newdomain.com/$1 [R=301,L]

We recently updated a large guide that takes the place of the original. The original has some nice organic traffic to it and I don't want to risk losing it. Should I 301 redirect to the new version, or update all the info directly on the original page?
We don't have a lot of content that garners much non-branded organic, so this is something I don't want to risk losing. We do not have a whole lot of external links into the page either.

After HTTPS upgrade, should I change all internal links, or a general 301 redirect is better?
I recently upgraded to https. Of course most internal links of my old posts are still http. So I set up a 301 redirect in order to make the old link works. In terms od SEO this is good or it is better to update all the internal links to https, manually? In that case can I do it in batch with a search/replace command in the phmyadmin database? any other suggested method? thank you

.htaccess redirect chains
At item 4 in the post at http://moz.com/blog/htaccess-file-snippets-for-seos the author recommends combining .htaccess redirects to avoid chaining redirects. I'd be obliged if someone could expand on: 1. What he means by chained redirects 2. How to combine the redirects per his recommendation Cheers.

Use 301 redirects when deleting old products?
I'm removing old products (wines) from my site, and I've been using 301 redirects for each product page back to the winery page. My question is, am I using best practice? I want people who search for these now nonexistent products to go to the winery page where they will see what is now available. But does google approve? I've also tried leaving the product's page intact but saying that it is no longer available and putting a link in the text that points to the winery page. Which is better, in the eyes of the god google? Thanks!
