Need assistance with website placement
-
Hi,
If a website xyz.com is placed under the top right navigation of a blog abc.com which are closely relevant to each other, will it do any harm to the website in Google search?
Now since the website is placed under right navigation, it is visible on every page of the blog, does it matter even though they are closely relevant?Note: The other external links that are on the blog are also relevant to each other.
Thank You,
Faiz -
Thanks for your answer.
Yes, its possible when I am the owner of the blog.
But having my website placed on some other blogs blogroll which is recurring shouldn't harm my website until the following points that you have addressed.
"But if the area on the page is titled: sponsored, advertising, etc, google will know the link is paid for and if it's not nofollowed it could be a problem.
Is the link paid for? If yes, be careful. Also review the other links around it, if it's surrounded by other external links that aren't relevant be careful."
Thank you, you addressed some valuable points.
Regards,
Susan Smith

You make it appear on just one page, it just requires some coding.

Hi Tom,
I appreciate your answer.
As you said you would wary of having the website appear on every single page of the blog. However, the right navigation of most of the blogs are repetitive on every internal pages. Therefore, we can't have a website placed under right navigation of some blog and limit the pages it would appear on.
I wonder, I have known some reputed blogs who have external links (Those external links have a good reputation too.) placed under right navigation which recur on every page of their blog, thus appearing on hundreds and thousands of their pages.
Thank You,
Susan Smith

It sounds like a blogroll link, so it shouldn't harm the sites.
But if the area on the page is titled: sponsored, advertising, etc, google will know the link is paid for and if it's not nofollowed it could be a problem.
Is the link paid for? If yes, be careful. Also review the other links around it, if it's surrounded by other external links that aren't relevant be careful.

Hey there
You will probably be interested in watching this very recent video by Matt Cutts, which talks about this very issue. Watch the video here.
If not overdone, it shouldn't be a problem. And the placement of the link on the page shouldn't matter either. I might be a bit wary of having it on every single page (if you have hundreds or thousands of pages), but for top navigation pages I think it would be OK.
Hope this helps.

Other websites copy content and giving a link back
Hi, I've just noticed a few back links in Google Search Console, I was excited. But when I saw the backlinks, 2 other websites that had completely copied my content and then gave a backlink to my website. Is this bad for SEO and would google penalise my website for this?

What to do about unethical website company?
I am working on SEO for a dental client, and I was looking at the external links for the main competitor. I noticed that a very large number of links were coming from other dental websites. When I looked more closely, I found that all of these websites had been created by one particular company specializing in dental websites. This company had hidden a directory on each client website with links to all their other client's websites. Is this something that can be reported? Is there anything I can do about it? Now I understand why I can't reach the number of external links that some of these other sites have! There are also many links coming from an online bookmark manager. I'm guessing these are accounts set up just to generate external links. How can anyone compete with that?

How Effective Are Links Between The Same Company's Websites With Different Domain Extensions?
Morning! The main competitor of an eCommerce site I'm working on has a total of 31 sites for 31 different countries. Each one of these sites has a different domain extension (.com, .co.uk, .fr, .it etc.), and every single one of these sites' pages links to all the other homepages through a dropdown menu on the navigation bar. When I pop the .co.uk URL (our main competitor) into Open Site Explorer, I'm advised they have a 45,079 links from 475 domains. If I look at 'just discovered' links, most are from their own sites - I guess MOZ picks these up every time a new page is created. Now, these guys are huge in the UK. They rank in the top 10 for pretty much every single search term and, to put it into some kind of perspective, their Search Metrics score is 33,000 compared to our measly 160! Don't get me wrong, they do get some decent links from authoritative sites, but it seem most of their links are from their own sites. How does Google view these? Does my competitor have these thousands of 'internal' backlinks to thank for their current position? I've just checked their .kr URL and this has 12.5 million(!) links from just 450 domains. Do every single one of these links pass equity? Or does Google just look at one from each domain? Thanks, Lewis

To know effect on our Website rank in Google Search results
Ours is Property Advertising Company. And we have agents and consultants working from other areas in providing property for advertising in our website. So we collect all the data (5000 data nearly) and upload in one stretch directly to our database. I would like to know whether this process will affect our ranking in google search results because when we upload 5000 data, the links in our website also increases.

Do No follow links from social media platforms transfer authority or value when they link to third party websites?
With social media playing a bigger role in SEO (since the Panda, Penguin updates etc) and how search engines rank sites now, does anybody know why Twitter for instance has 'no follow' when I check my client's websites under 'inbound links' on Open Site Explorer?

Is there a tool available to identify whether you already have a link for a specific blog/website?
Hi there, There are a couple of us in the office that are involved in link building - and sometimes it's difficult to keep track of where everybody is trying to build links. Does anybody know if there is a tool available where users can input both website addresses to check whether you already have a link from the desired website? Thanks in advance for your help.
