★Does syndication of a news features from high Profile site like TechCrunch have a negative SEO impact?
-
As a co-founder of a startup that is weekly featured on high page rank news sites such as TechCrunch, The Next Web, TreeHugger , Yahoo News etc.
These types of write ups are "SEO Gold" as they are high page rank sites with high relevancy to our sector and with unique good quality anchor text and copy.
However... Within hours of each post going live the content and links are syndicated either via RSS or scraped and appear as duplicate content on in some cases 100's of very low quality and low relevancy content aggregation sites.
To give you an example here are just two of the sites that are now appearing as linking domains due to this syndicated content and the links included in the article.
Examples :
Eco Market, The “Etsy For Eco,” Rebrands, Revamps, Raises & Prepares A U.S. Launch
Sarah Perez | Technology | Page 4
The above are just a couple of examples amongst 100's that result from each feature.
I would like to hear you opinion on if these links would be considered natural and you feel I should not take action or if you think these need removing by contacting the webmasters or disavowing the links?
I am sure I cant be alone in having this problem and look forward to hearing you advice and tips

Unfortunately, it can be murky and very situational. Optimistically, I tend to agree with @Paddy - this should be a good thing, and you're not doing anything wrong. I'd hate to see you shoot yourself in the foot by cutting these links or harming your core business.
Practically, though, I have seen situations where the duplicates started to cause problems or the scrapers or partner began to outrank the source (you, in this case). There's no easy answer, I'm afraid, other than diversification. If you can build a solid link profile beyond these links, have solid social signals, and generally appear to be a brand in and of yourself, then duplicates and other issues will have less impact. If you base everything on these links, you could start to run into trouble.
I'd be hesitant to tell you to cut valuable ties and relationships. For the most part, these links are positive. I'd just make sure that you've got eggs in other baskets.

My understanding is that google will " pick up" the story/text from the original place when it crawls it (bigger sites get crawled more often), so it gets the credit. In that case the only problem is when a big site copies a story from a smaller site before google has crawled it.
But your worrying that all theses back links will look spammy. Story syndication or data scrapping is so common and been happening for so long, it would have been a big problem by now, but its not (not to my knowledge). I think google can easily spot a syndicated or scrapped story from a legit source and knows not to mark the backlink it as spammy, but I don't think you would get much juice from the syndicated links (especially if they are junk site).
I know of sites were they do the same as you (get picked up by big news sites), and it all gravy baby

Challenge: How to SEO a site with almost no content
Wondering what you all would recommend for SEO on this site: www.gudville.com Most of their content is behind a login. Basically there are 5 pages open to Google and to anyone without that login, and they are not open to doing it differently at this time. Once in, there will be a lot of sharing with Facebook friends that will include invitations to join them in their causes. Love to hear all your recommendations. Kathy

Should I post an article to the same article site each month or should I vary the sites I post them to?
Hi Community,
Link Building | | acs111
Im planning on creating an article each month centred around 1 keyword.
Is it best to post this to the same site. eg http://ezinearticles.com/ every month or should I try to post it to a mixture of different sites? I'm trying to rank a site higher for their chosen keyword by gaining links from anchor text within each article I create.0 -
Observation on Linking to other sites
Hello, I have a blog for one year now and in the overwall is going great. In all this time it was an awesome way to discovery some SEO mysterious and learn with experience wich in my point of view is the best way to do it. Now my observation is about links to other sites and what does that do. At the present I have about 35 keywords in the 3 first places in Google, bing e Yahoo. All good. I notice that the posts that I have links (dofolow) to other sites are performing better then those ones that only have internal-links. And Its curious that this change as starting to surface in Dezember of 2011. Now the confusion is about the SEOmoz observation towards external links. "You should avoid having too many (roughly defined as more than 100) hyperlinks on any given page. When search engine spiders crawl the Internet they are limited by technology resources and are only able to crawl a certain number of links per webpage. In addition, search engine algorithms divide the value of some popularity metrics by the amount of links on a given page." Now hell with this observation I say. Its working for me and for now on I will actually apply this SEO strategy when Im talking about a subject in a post:) What do you guys think? Whats your experince on this? Regards, Pedro M Pereira

High Mozplex strength metrics but Low TBR = Penalized site?
Suppose an old established site's root has High PA, High DA & High MR scores but the TBPR is significantly low. Can it be taken as a pointer that Google has algorithmically capped that site's ability to pass link equity when the home page metrics look suspect? Example case: pegasusdirectory*com PA = 88, DA = 86, MR = 6.61, but TBPR = 3 ( aged site ) (p.s: I'm aware that on inner pages of sites, it's quite normal to see high PA, Page level MR but no TBPR; my question is specically about guaging quality of the link for the DOMAIN in question Should I spend time on getting links from such domains ? ) TIA

Are press release sites useful?
Many of my clients release newsletters and other peices of content qualify as press releases. I have been wondering if people find that the press release sites such as PRleap or PRweb are useful and worthwhile? If so, which do you feel is the best? Is there any research on this? I am planning to record my results from these sites and perhaps make a Youmoz post in the future.
