Is there a problem when passages of text are repeating on varios pages?
-
Hi Everybody,
I am working on travel-pages and there are 4 tours that all start their itinerary in "Manaus", so I have 4 pages containing all a passage of the same text about Manaus.
How will Google interpret this? Just pick one of the four pages in relation to Manaus Keywords and index, or index none of them?
What should I do, because there is no canonical tag for parts of pages?
I'm curious about what you think
Best regards,
Holger -
Hi Takeshi,
now I realized that my client is offering 4 tours in the amazon. He is just mixing the attractions and length of the items to create different tours. So there is a lot of duplicate content which may result in his bad pagerank (although his pages are ranking). On the one hand its good to see different combinations of itineraries but I think the concept of such a site should be different.
Each attraction with unique content should have its own page to be able to focus on different keywords. Then he should propose possible combinations of these attractions without repeating always the same content.
This will be the only way to make the site better... right?
-
A short excerpt is fine, as long as it's surrounded by larger amount of unique content.
-
The text is about 150 words. Basically I am curious if a small exerpt repeating on varios pages with different and unique content can have a bad influence on these pages?
Thanks for your help.
-
Did you mean 20-30 words, or 20-30 lines?
Having a small excerpt of content across multiple pages is perfectly fine, as long as each page also has additional unique content. If it's a significant amount of content, though, I would try tailoring the content to each specific tour, or maybe include an excerpt with a link to the page containing the full description.

Hi Takeshi,
my client has a travel website where he is offering 4 different tours in the amazon. The itinerary is basically different for each tour. BUT all the tours start in Manaus, so there are 20-30 lines of text talking about Manaus and what they will visit there...
Its just a small part of the pages with the same content about Manaus... so a redirect does not work as well as a canonical tag does not work here.
-
Why do you have 4 pages with the same content on it?
If it's not necessary to have 4 pages, then pick the one with the highest page authority, and use a 301 redirect to point all the other pages to the main one.
If you need the pages to exist from a user experience perspective, then use a canonical tag in the header to point all the duplicate pages to the main page.
If you want each of the pages to rank for different keywords, then create unique content for each of the pages.

Hi I am really intrigued by Bloomberg strategy. if you look at their article pages they are full with internal links done with what I assume to be an automated process (too many pages to be done manually). it seems to work for them. I would love to hear your opinions.

SeoMoz On-Page Rating
Hello everyone! I am just checking the on-page optimization for the website I look after and I am getting some ratings related to the keywords I target for those pages. How should I consider the numeric score I get? (10 on average) Also what is a good score for those pages? Cheers Oscar

Index Page Content
Mozers, I am of the believe and as a person who puts the utmost emphasis on the index page of any website I am trying to rank, especially with a new domain ... insuring content is relevant, structured, optimized and we have some link juice flowing in. I find once we get the index page ranked, Google's little bots then start to index and rank accordingly the rest of the website ... and we start producing results. We also develop websites (dare I say its where we expertise in) and unexpectantly the client has asked us to carry out SEO work additionally to their web development. Problem lies here, their index page, has absolutely no written content at all, just one large image with a logo (Fashion Website) ...Which I identify as a huge issue as per my explanation is paragraphs one or two. I am sure withe the many more qualified SEO experts and gurus within the SEOmoz community, you have also come across this issue So a few questions, if you don't mind adding advice. 1 - Am I putting too much emphasize on content within the index page, in terms of indexing and actually ranking ...yes I appreciate that terms within the website will be ranked against other pages other than the index page, but will it harm us for having no content at all within the index page 2 - If so, and yes is the answer to above, how do we handle it, we have spoke with the client and he is pretty adamant that he want the index page as is, he has been through out the whole website building process. As suggested, any advice would be really appreciated, its a difficult market to rank within a it is, and i can only see this index page making the task a lot more difficult Cheers John

Opinions please on Duplicate page titles & too many on-page links warnings.-
Hello folks, I'm a total SEO newbe but totally enjoying
On-Page Optimization | | CSC
using SEOmoz to learn more. We have ecommerce sites and the 1st crawl flags – as appears typical too many on-page links. We display up to 20 products (each with three links!)
and I’m trying to push to have fewer but meeting resistance from colleagues.
We have links duplicated all over the site believing it eases navigation. My question is just how critical is the number of products displayed
and the resulting volume of links to SEO results? Also we currently have collections of products displayed
across several pages which of course have the same page title and this is flagged
as a duplication error. I wonder if product auto-scrolling help as this means only a certain number of products are displayed at one time on one page thus reducing links and the need for duplicate page titles? My superiors are resisting change (perhaps nervous of spoiling
what already works) and I need to know where to direct my persuasive powers! Many thanks in anticipation, Spence0 -
We have 5 postions on page 2 in a google search, but none on page 1\. How can we fix this?
For one of our most important key phrases we have 5 listings on page 2 but none on page 1. We are an ecommerce company, the key phrase we're trying for is a Top Level Category name for us, so the 5 links we have on googles second page for the key phrase (in order) are the appropriate top level category page, the sites home page and than three sub categories of that top level category. So while that all makes sense, can't we convince google to concentrate all that link power/juice into just the top level category page? Hopefully bumping it to first page rank? The 5 ranks are 11-15

Product Page Optimization
I work for an ecommerce site and we are currently in the process of redesigning our product page. Any useful, must-do tips for this? If it helps, our site has both hard goods and apparel that can be imprinted and customized to the buyers liking. Thanks for any help!

What is html text?
I am using the "page attributes" tool for a guideline for what I am filling in on each page of my website. I feel like I've done my homework on this, but I can't figure out what "html text" is. URL Page Title Meta Description Meta Keywords H1 H2 **HTML Text ** ... not sure what to put here, how long it should be, what it's purpose is, etc. Any SEOMoz links helping me figure that out? I'm not finding it in the "Basics of Search Engine Design" article posted here on SEOMoz.
