Am i getting backlink benefits from sites i design and host
-
I own & host over 300 domains for as many businesses. They all link back to my site from every page. but seomoz shows only hundred. so do other seo tools. why is that?
-
I didn't attribute the thumbs down to any specific person and did see that you gave the "good answer" award.
Lots of people think that their attribution links are good as gold. I thought it was one of them giving the thumbs down.
If you click thumbs up, I think that the thumbs down will disappear.
-
Not sure why you concluded I gave the thumbs down intentionally!
If you notice i clicked good answer as soon as I read it and I thought it was helpful, which is also evident in my reply. If anything it would have been inadvertent. Please, be gentle..
Lynn, your answer was awesome.. thanks once again..

For your question regarding the benefit, site wide links especially on the same host (or a handful of hosts) all pointing to you are not going to give you much benefit and could potentially bring penalties...............
This was a really good answer... don't know why anyone would give it thumbs down. Probably same type of person who shoots the messenger.
-
I also used to put a link on sites I made, because the sites were rarely relevant I did not think they would be of much value but it wouldn't hurt.
That has changed, my site dropped of the map when penguin came in, it only came back when I removed lots these but not only these types of links.

Not parked. active domains with thousands of pages each that we have built for our clients over the last 6 years.
-
A million pages linking in is a whole lot! I would be very careful if those are mainly site wides, it is asking for trouble.
As for the seomoz tool, I too sometimes wish it would show a link it is not, but patience is a virtue. If the site is decently linked, the seomoz bot will likely get to it at some point.
Try looking at it another way though. If a link is continuously NOT showing in the seomoz report it is a pretty strong indication in many instances that the link/page has a really low benefit. Really low in this case would mean pretty much non existent. So in that respect I find the seomoz link reports useful for focusing much more on quality than quantity if you see what I mean.

you can use the private ip service. I think that is very good like ix webhosting
-
That helps..
I did a google webmaster tools link lookup and i see all my sites with over a million pages linking in.
I guess that makes me somewhat happy that google has found them. I understand what you said about site wide links. i will work on that.
But makes me wonder how much importance I should give seomoz tools at this point!
Thanks for your reply!

Hi Anoop,
For your question regarding the benefit, site wide links especially on the same host (or a handful of hosts) all pointing to you are not going to give you much benefit and could potentially bring penalties. Be especially careful about stuffing keywords into those links. Your best bet if you want to keep the reference to you as a designer is to put the links only on the hompage or alternatively on a site credits type page and keep them to branded links only (ie the name of your company).
As to why all of them are not showing up in your reports, seomoz and other tools can only ever index a subset of all the links/pages on the web. I would think that the sites that are not showing up maybe have small link profiles (few external links from other sites) and as such are just not getting crawled that often because references to them from other sites are not found that often. Over time if their link profiles get stronger then you will likely start to see more of them appear in the reports.
Hope that helps!

They have to be found before they can show.
I assume these are parked domains?

One page sites
HI Guys, I need help with a one page site What is the best method to getting the lower pages indexed? Linking back to the site(Deeplinking) is looking impossible. Will this hurt my SEO? Are there any other tips on one page websites that you can recommend?

Multiple sites in the same niche (Should we redirect these to our Main Site)
I will keep this short and sweet. We have some websites in the same niche area but want to focus only on our newest site (basically all the information that was being posted on the other sites will now be part of our new site) This will save us a lot of time and increase our focus on 1 entity. Should we redirect these website with a 301 redirect to the specific categories that they focus on in the new site? or should we redirect to the main domain.

Our site has too many backlinks! How can we do a bad backlink audit?
Webmaster Tools is saying we have close to 24 million links to our site. The site has been around since the mid 90s and has accumulated all these links since. We also have our own network of sites that have links in their templates to our main site. I'm fighting to get these links "nofollow"'d but upper management seems scared to alter this practice. This past year we've found our rankings have dropped significantly and suspect it's due to some spammy backlinks or being penalized for doing an accidental link scheme network. 24 million links is too many to check manually for using the disavow tool and it seems that bulk services out there to check backlinks can't even come close. What's an SEO to do?

What's the right way to gain the benefits of an EMD but avoid cramming the title?
Hi Guys, Say I'm (completely hypothetically) building weddingvenuesnewyork.com and right now I'm organizing the tags for each page. What's the best layout so that I can optimize for "wedding venues new york" as much as possible without it becoming spammy. Right now I'm looking at something like "Wedding Venues New York: Wedding Receptions and Ceremony Venues" for the title.. To get other strong keywords in there too. Is there a better layout/structure?.. And is having the first words of the title on the homepage the same as the domain name going to strengthen the ranking for that term, or look spammy to Google and be a bad move? This is a new site being built

Is it worth getting links from .blogspot.com and .wordpress.com?
Our niche ecommerce site has only one thing going for it: We have numerous opportunities on a weekly basis to get reviews from "mom bloggers". We need links - our domain authority is depressing. My concern is that these "mom bloggers" tend to have blogs that end with .blogspot.com or .wordpress.com. How do I screen for "reviewers" that are worth getting links from and how can I make the most of the community we have available to us?

Site ranking position 1, after 1 day existing
Hi, I'm working in the Online gaming and since a few months there was a website called 'Htmlwijzer.nl', it ranked page 1 for 'online casino' in Google.nl which is of course a high competive keyword and remained there for about 2 months. This website didn't come up slowly in Google.nl from page 10 to 1, it just was there one day at page 1. This one only had HTML-related information content and did rank for 'online casino' with a layer ad on it's site which would only be showed to users in the Netherlands. Now that website received a penalty after 2 months, and since today a new site is in Google at position 1, called www.casinowijzer.nl. It has completely no backlinks (online a 301 from the former domain). It just popped up there.. Does anyone know how this website could have gotten here? It's obviously blackhat, but for a keyword like 'online casino' it's quite amazing. Thanks,

Does the site have duplicate, overlapping, or redundant articles on the same or similar topics with slightly different keyword variations?
Hi All, In relation to this thread http://www.seomoz.org/q/what-happend-to-my-ranks-began-dec-22-detailed-info-inside I'm still getting whipped hard from Google, this week for some reason all rankings have gone for the past few days. What I was wondering though is this, when Google says- Does the site have duplicate, overlapping, or redundant articles on the same or similar topics with slightly different keyword variations? I assume my site hits the nail on the head- [removed links at request of author] As you can see I target LG Optimus 3D Sim Free, LG Optimus 3D Contract and LG Optimus 3D Deals. Based on what Google has said, I know think there needs to be 1 page that covers it all instead of 3. What I'm wondering is the best way to deal with the situation? I think it should be something like this but please correct me along the way 🙂 1. Pick the strongest page out of the 3 2. Merge the content from the 2 weaker pages into the strongest 3. Update the title/meta info of the strongest page to include the KW variations of all 3 eg- LG Optimus 3D Contract Deals And Sim Free Pricing 4. Then scatter contract, deals and sim free throughout the text naturally 5. Then delete the weaker 2 pages and 301 redirect to the strongest page 6. Submit URL removal via webmastertools for the 2 weaker pages What would you do to correct this situation? Am I on the right track?

How much pain can I expect if I change the URL structure of the site again?
About 3 months ago I implemented a massive URL structure change by 'upgrading' some of the features of our CMS Prior to this URL's for catergorys and products looked something like this http://www.thefurnituremarket.co.uk/proddetail.asp?prod=OX09 I made a few changes but din't implement it fully as I felt it would be better to do it instages as the site was getting indexed more thouroughly. HOWEVER... We have just hit the first page for some key SERP's and I am wary to rock the boat again by changing the URL structures again and all the sitemaps. How much pain do you think we could feel if i went ahead and optimised the URL's fully? and What would you do? 🙂
