Link Building for E-Commerce
-
Hi,
Our on page optimization, albeit for a few dupe content issues, is ok - We have good keyword rich URL's, Titles, H1's and unique product descriptions.
So now I want to look at building links that will boost our DA and PA's.
We have over 2000 products on the store and around 130 categories/subcategories -and I would appreciate any views on where to start -
My initial view is to get backlinks from the relevant manufacturer websites to the "shop by brand" page on our site related to these manufacturers -
What other strategies should I look at?
Thanks,
Ben

Very good answer Elias. Thank you.

One place to start is to see whether the suppliers of your products have "where to buy" section on their website as they are relevant links and are an easy place to start.
As Elias said, it is more about getting links on somewhere your potential customers will see it and be encouraged to visit your website and to buy your products. One good idea is to run some surveys or competitions that you will be able to use the results to create some some unique, interesting content.

Hi,
I think you need to think about link building as "why would people want to link to my site?".
The problem with e-commerce is that quite often the products you sell will be no different to the products on other sites and therefore there is no USP or Unique Linking Proposition, in this instance.
The most controllable way of building links is to plan a content strategy.
- Think about where you want links from (which sites)
- Research what type of content they link to
- Create content that they are likely to link to
- And contact them to make them aware of the content you've created
The last point works even better if you get them involved in the content creation purpose. There is loads of advice on various content marketing and link building strategies over in the blog.
Your idea about getting links from manufacturers isn't a bad idea but it isn't scalable.
The important thing to remember is that if you approach this with a short term "get as many links as I can" point of view, you'll be wasting your time. If you approach this knowing that it is long term and will take time and effort you'll be on to a winner.
I hope this helps!

Do I have any harmful links? If so, what should I do?
URL in question: www.nasserilegal.com/criminal.html I'm using OSE and see some questionable backlinks. At first glance, if you look at the page authority and domain authority, they look great. Once you go to the actual pages, they look spammy. If the links are hurting the rankings for the site, should I try to remove the links manually or just ignore and continue to build good quality links or even build a new site? I noticed for the last couple of weeks, the rankings started to slip. Thanks in Advance, Lucas

[e-commerce] Should I index product variants?
Hi guys, I have e-commerce site, that sells car tires. I was wondering would I benefit from making all Product Variants ( for example each tire size ) as different page, that has link to the main product to provide some affiliation, or should I make each variant noindex, and add rel=canonical to the main product. The benefits from having each variant indexed can be many: greater click through rate more relative results for customers etc. But I'm not sure how to handle the duplicate content issue ( in this case, only the title, URL and H1 can be different ). Regards.

Dynamic Links vs Static Links
There are under 100 pages that we are trying to rank for and we'd like to flatten our site architecture to give them more link juice. One of the methods that is currently in place now is a widget that dynamically links to these pages based on page popularity...the list of links could change day to day. We are thinking of redesigning the page to become more static, as we believe it's better for link juice to flow to those pages reliably than dynamically. Before we do so, we need a second opinion.

Sitewide blog link and Article links
Hi Guys I just wanted to give you all a heads up on something I adjusted recently that worked really well and wanted to ask for your own experiences on this. 1. We have a blog that adds regular content and within the blog we link from the keyword we are targeting. Standard stuff right ! We were struggling for movement on a keyword so I removed the links from the articles and added a link on the site wide blogroll. The link on the blogroll included the keyword but was a longer descriptive link. Low and behold we got a first page listing when the changed it.The change in ranking was made a few days later. I have always been given the impression that site wide isn't that great ? So explain this one . Of course there are many other factors etc 🙂 What are your experiences and thoughts on what happened here ?

Link Juice - Lots of Pages
I have a site, PricesPrices.com where I'm steadily building inbound links and pagerank. I have about 4600 pages on the site, most of which are baby products in the baby gear sector. There are many outdated items that aren't really my focus, but do pop up in long-tail search queries from time to time. My question is a pretty basic one. Theoretically if a site has say 28/100 link juice, then as you go deeper and deeper into the site, the link juice is divided more and more. My question: Is this really true or just a concept? My thoughts are to hide many of the products that i don't really need to focus on therefor passing more link juice to the products that remain, but I also don't want to that if it won't necessarily make the remaining pages rank higher or have more link juice. I also have to keep in mind the merchandising aspect of the site and providing a good user experience. If i only have 300 products on the site, there will be a ton of unhappy people who can't find the products they are looking for. Any thoughts and/or pointers in the direction of funneling that pagerank down into my site would be much appreciated. Thanks!

Building Widgets...
Hi all, For a project I'm working on there will be an opportunity to have a number of websites link back to our main site. Rather than giving out a straight forward link text I'm more interested in building and handing out some kind of widget which is topical to both us and the websites giving us links. Although I do a fair bit of web development with various technologies I have never played around with building widgets as such which can pull in data feeds from our database etc... Does anyone have any good recommendations of tutorials covering this area or alternatively any companies offering this kind of widget building service. Thanks in advance, Darren
