Does "Using a dash in keyword name" affect SEO?
-
I sell machinery branded Co-matic. Most people search Comatic so I was wondering if I should change my keywords from Co-matic to Comatic. Would the change have a significant impact on SEO?
Thanks!

Matt Cutts has stated before that a dash - in a URL is interpreted similar to a space while an underscore _ is interpreted as a connector. http://youtu.be/AQcSFsQyct8
In your case, if Co-matic and Comatic are synonymous then I would choose whatever the actual Brand name is. Odds are Google will understand 1) that the brand is Co-matic and 2) that "Comatic" is "Co-matic" when looking for machinery.
Also, "Comatic" has the dictionary definition "of, pertaining to, or blurred as a result of a coma" which I don't think would be advantageous to have associated with your site.

No having a dash is not going to have a significant impact on your site as far as rankings... However typing the URL into a browser manually will be easier, and a shorter URL in general is better.
If you can avoid the hyphen then do it. If you must use the hyphen, it should not impact your SEO results.

Tool for wildcard keyword suggestions
Like others, I have also been oblivious to the options which were uncovered in this article, using stars or underscores to uncover more keywords suggestions. However, I am trying to find a way to avoid the manual labour. Did any of you find a successful tool that automatically adds all the possible combinations of these wildcards to give a comprehensive lists of suggestions? I am looking for a tool that also included my country (.nl).

Does Using Brand/Company Name in Title on Multiple Pages Cause Cannibalization
I'm trying to rank for brand-name related keywords for a website. Most of the titles on the site include the page topic followed by the brand-name separated by bars or dashes (ex: title= widget | My Brand). Is this creating cannibalization for the brand-related terms? I was wondering if it was better to leave the brand out of the title all together except on a dedicated page. However, due to the nature of the business I work for there are multiple recognized iterations of the name including acronyms and long-form and short-form versions and creating content for each targeted iteration seems superfluous.

Does SEOmoz account for keyword variations?
If I want to know my rank for bank account, do I need to list bank accounts as well or will my ranking include variations? Also, if I use the word bank as a keyword, will any search that contains the word bank (even when other words are included) count towards the ranking for that word? Or would I need to add additional keywords like dallas bank, local bank, etc?

Domain name selection + Branding
Hello All, Would like to understand the relation between selecting a domain name and the branding of ones organization. Recently a friend came upto me and asked as to how he could select his domain name so that factors like seo visibility and uniqueness fall into place correctly. Is there some website which could permutate / combine few keywords and suggest domain names. Also help in deciding whether selecting that domain name would be advantegous over other or not. Common names like cart , food, vacation etc if names formed keeping these in between as domain names could cause issues where in a lot of influential names could pop up on the searches and make your domain irrelavant. Any ideas how to overcome this problem

Suggestions for RU Keyword Research
Does anyone have suggestions for a better RU keyword tool than Yandex and/or is there a way to see exact searches in Yandex's keyword tool? It seems like the data is not at all accurate. For example - we are ranked #2 for a keyword which has over 40,000 monthly searches (searches according to Yandex keyword tool and position confirmed with someone doing a manual search in Russia). However, we are not getting any traffic for this keyword and according to Yandex webmaster tools the keyword only got 10 impressions this past month. Any ideas for me... or would using Google be preferable eventhough people in Russia don't really use Google?

Google Keyword Estimator
Hello Does the Google traffic estimator include the impact of instant? For example, if I type the phrase "London restaurant", instant may provide a list of search results for the phrase "London restaurant guide" prior to me confirming whether or not I just want to search using the phrase "London restaurant". Is this registered in any way as a search for the phrase "London restaurant guide" (i.e. does Instant impact upon the search volumes presented in the Google traffic estimator)? In addition, is there any up to date assessment on how reliable the revised traffic estimator is? The tool currently suggests that for a well known brand we are working for does not have any search volume (over a whole year) for the brand keyphrase when used in isolation (there is traffic for various combinations of the brand and a generic term). However, as one would expect, our analytics data is showing that there are in excess of 1 million annual visitors that use the brand keyphrase in isolation to access the website via natural search and nearly 1.5 million via PPC. Is anyone else getting these problems? Thanks in advance for any assistance. Rgds Neil
