Too many onpage links
-
We got the weekly seomoz reports and see that most of our pages and posts contain too many onpage links.
I checked our website and all of our pages have a header, footer and left side menu. I did the math and there are 13 links in the header, 26 links in the footer and 76 links in the left side menu. This means that all of our post and pages have 115 links at the start.
So what do I do? Do I remove the left side menu from the posts' layout and use only the footer and header? Or do I add nofollow links?
Thanks!

Hey Romaine
The campaign tool is making a general recommendation based on the best practice advice of only having 100 links tops on a page. That is all fine and dandy but the reality is that this has to be thought about in the context of your site and your users.
What this ultimately means is that you are spreading the internal page rank between those 115 pages fairly evenly. Now, if those 115 pages are all of equal importance then great, but if not, if some of them are just blog categories or the like then you are missing an opportunity to promote the most important pages in your internal hierarchy.
To decide what to do try asking yourself these questions:
- What are my most important pages?
- Can I restructure my site so the less important pages are linked to from elsewhere?
What you will probably find is that you can rethink your navigation and lose the side bar or make that a navigation element on a sub page. This focusses the internal page rank on the important pages and still allows you to provide navigation where needed.
It's hard to give a general answer on any of this stuff as there are so many moving parts and it all depends on what is right for your site and your users. This is a good read by the ever readable and reliable Dr. Pete on the subject:

Hope that helps and certainly fire over a link and I will take a look and feedback.
In the meanwhile, this is not optimal, but it's not the end of the world either so don't blow a gasket!
Hope that helpsMarcus

What is everyone doing to reduce the number of links on a page?
Some clients of mine have sites that are throwing the "too many links on one page" error and we're not just talking a little more than the status quo 100 links, it's much more. I believe it could be due to the fly-out navigation. My Solution: shorten the Tier 2 categories in the left nav down to 5 and add a "View All" link after the 5th and remove top nav fly-outs. I'm not sure if these are best practices or the best for usability though?

What are all those meta name= and link rel= on the cnn home page source?
I usually use Description, title and keywords tag. I keep seeing these meta name = "classification" or "distribution" and also link rel =stylesheet" and "pingback" etc. Please tell me how important this is for SEO. It would be great to be pointed to the right page. Also, is there a wordpress pluggin to just fill in and have these be populated on the front end? Thank You

Too many on-page links
Hi, My website - www.thepartyhouse.com.au is showing as having too many on-page links for over 4,000 pages. Take for example the homepage which is showing as 188 links, but I don't understand this because I've used SEO tools to display the links and I am showing around 90 links on this page. How can I see what all the links are? Thanks

Link juice question
In theory: If i have a page with only two outgoing, do-follow links,
On-Page Optimization | | elgoog
and both have the same target,
only the first one will be counted.. right? Will that link pass 100% or 50% of the link juice? (if the anchor text is the same or different does not make any difference i think)0 -
Is anchor text link juice passed in internal links?
Let's say I have www.bobswidgets.com. If I have "widgets for sale in tuscon arizona' be the anchor text on an internal link on www.bobswidgets.com/page1 which goes to www.bobswidgets.com/page2 - does the value of the anchor text (widgets for sale in tuscon arizona) get passed internally? External links pass the value of the anchor text but do internal links?
