WIX & SEO
-
Good morning all,
recently i started to test a new niche build a website and did it with WIX.
From some reason OSE don't see any information from the website
Can anyone solve this mystery?
Thank you very much

and what do you mean exactly by "mark up manually"? coding?
-
I hated my experience with Wix. It was certainly very pretty and got us a site up in next to no time that did the trick in the short term - if that's what you need, fine.
As far as I'm aware, you can't mark up anything in Wix manually, which is quite a big deal. Having it readable by an engine and having it optimised are very different.
-
you bet I never said that.
If you move into wix with an existing site - NO GO
if you start out of wix and do not need all those good full featured SEO controls for your sites - GO GO GO
you can always later on do 301s from old wix urls (hasbang situation considered, there are ways)
I am yet to hear or see a valid complaint for wix or similar sites that is proving they are "horrible" for SEO. the fact that for wordpress you still need to learn coding and will NEVER get the same visuals as easily and as fast (with coding, you can do anything, but then again why use wordpress when you can code)
they say they may introduce this stuff at some point in future and I take their word for it, but wont hold my breath, their future could mean months-years.

there is a technical mismatch. we have tried many times, with sites that are old or new, flash or html5, OSE and wix at the moment do not mix. campaigns, yes they work almost 100% well.
But David would you care to elaborate why a service like wix is "horrible" for SEO while we have had success ranking sites on it very well?
-
Thank you David
In my language we say something like that: "you erupt to an open door"
This is exactly what i am doing right now (self-hosted Wordpress)
Thanks again

How recently?
OSE's index was last updated on May 15, if it was later than that, you won't see any data. Next update is due on June 12. But to be blunt, wix is horrible for SEO - get a self-hosted Wordpress install, with a few plugins you'll be on the right path.

Thank you Omid for this answer.
In between the lines i can read that i better not build a main website using WIX if SEO is an important part of it.
I know you didnt say that, but have this feeling in the past few weeks
Again - thank you very much

OSE will not be able to help you at all. no mystery.
SEOmoz folk and Wix folk have not mingled enough to get a solution for this. I would bet no other competing service to SEOmoz and OSE will see much good info/data either.
trust me, I have used wix for over 2 years now.
Campaigns however, do work essentially just fine, rank checker does work, and keyword rankings and traffic data do work, also link information in the competitor section of campaigns works just fine and all totals are shown, even details can be drilled down to in history mode, but for some reason OSE and wix do not mix well and i have never seen it able to read much details about any wix site, even really popular and established one. it only gives the DA, PA, and those top numbers. no details.
This is something that WIXSEOTEAM who are active on SEOmoz said they will "try" to look into and try to work out with SEOmoz... But you can never take wix on face value as they always promise way more than they can deliver in a timely and acceptable fashion, or at least, so far that has been their development and feature expansion record.
Also, I advise you dig SEOmoz real deep and find a few other threads about wix and reasons I and others have discussed for and against Wix when it comes to SEO
wix currently has no 301 or canonical control, no authorship tag and not really a SEO friendly blog yet.
Otherwise, what you read about !# signs and reasons people use to say is bad for SEO, does not apply to wix and all is good in that regard.

Is there an SEO checklist that I can follow for every new project?
I'm a very structured dude. I literally have to have every project in front of me in order to be productive. With that said, it would sure help me if there was a checklist to follow with at least the basics to both audit an existing website, to where they rank and what areas need improved and then another checklist that goes through each phase of implementing SEO for the first time either on a brand new website or an existing website that you're taking over... Any suggestions?

OSE Domains & Subdomains
Is there a compelling reason that OSE treats subdomains as part of a parent domain, rather than as a separate site? Or is this just a technical limitation? I ask because it's my understanding that Google treats subdomains more like separate domains than like parts of the parent domain. OSE treating them more like folders creates some frustrating situations when researching niches that are heavily filled with blospot and wordpress.com blogs. First of all, the domain authority in these situations is not at all indicative of the strength of the site. It also makes it hard to evaluate linking root domains at a glance, since all blogspot blogs count as one domain. So to see all blogspot sites linking you have to go to the full link list -- where each site may be listed hundreds of times -- and you can't group them because they're all considered the same domain. To be sure you when researching these niches you can just throw out domain authority as a metric, and export every report to excel where you can sort things in a way to make it easier to separate sites. But if there isn't a compelling SEO reason to have OSE function this way, I'd love to see those subdomains treated as separate sites so I can have access to all the easy to use SEOmoz metrics and layouts without the extra work. And of course if there is a compelling SEO reason for subdomains to be treated as domains, I'd love to be educated! : )

Using Keyword Difficulty Report along with OSE to calculate SEO Pricing?
Has anyone thought of or created a algorithm or Excel function that uses the results from the Keyword Difficulty Report percentage of difficulty and SERP ranking analysis set against potential client's own OSE rankings to come up with an estimated SEO pricing tool?

SEO Moz ranking reports
I am confused. The SEO Moz ranking reports state that my site show show up in a specific position in SERP for a specific keyword yet when I google the keyword the ranking is different. Are these ranking reports merely indicative or are they supposed to be accurate?

How does the PRO Q&A forum work?
OK, so the SEOMoz PRO Q&A forum is officially awesome since the redesign. It works amazingly well guys - thanks for a great resource! I'm wondering, what technologies have you used to make it work so well? Is the Q&A forum totally custom, or does it run on top of another 3rd-party / open source / web app structure? We're thinking about doing something similar for our business (not in the SEO space, so don't worry 😉
