Social Media Site that DoFollow

Hi everyone, I love this community and have a question:
I recently read the textbook Art of SEO which was written by some of the creators of this community. In that book, there is a chapter on link building. Within that chapter, they discuss social media sites and how to leverage them.
In that section, they refer to this article: http://www.searchenginepeople.com/blog/22-dofollow-social-media-sites-offering-profile-links.html. This article gives 22 social media sites that it says if you simply sign up, make a profile, and have your profile point to your web site, there will be a benefit because these sites profile sections DoFollow links.
My question is: Is there a tool that can tell me whether or not these 22 sites still DoFollow links? Or at least if there profile section does pass link juice? Any advise is greatly appreciated.

Well, one way would be to look in the source code of the website. Find the profile link and see if there is a rel="nofollow" attribute in there. Or, get the SEOmoz toolbar and click the NoFollow finder, it will highlight nofollow links in pink, i believe.

Somone is creating a ton of links to my site!!!
Today I looked at site explorer and found over 1100 linking root domains and over 750 linking c-blocks. My site was hovering around 200 linking root domains and 150 linking c-blocks. I have not paid anyone to link to my site... Is this one of my competitors trying to create negative seo for a specific key word? I've worked very hard to never try to build links and only get links naturally by providing good content that people would want to link to. Can all hundreds of new links hurt me? Article submission web-sites and SEO
Does article submission web-sites have any impact to SEO in these days? There are a lot of good/not so good article submission databases, but does it really matter if you spend a time to write unique articles for them? I mean, is it a good way for link-building, or should I spend more time for other parts of SEO? There are also a special websites (for example SubmitYourArticle) which automate this process, does it make sense to use this services? Alternates? Linking to sites that link to porn or casinos, my site getting penalized?
I have some link exchanges with some sites to get web traffic but when i ran the bad neighborhood link checker, i found that one site links to some casinos and another site has one link to a porn site. Is this getting me penalized? should i remove the links to these sites? Thanks, Ron

We are currently in the process of gathering all our links and going through them 1 by 1, at the moment I'm just stuck deciding if we should remove this link. What to do with a new good looking site?
With a new site comes new challenges. We have recently finished one of our clients websites in the Retirement (financial) field. www.retirementireland.ie In my opinion the site is looking good, fast loading(very little js, optimized images) and good SEO structuring. As being a new site i feel like the decisions taken now are crucial. If SEO is done properly could save a lot of time. If not would take us a while until we get 1-5 positions for retirement, retirement options, retirement planning, retirement ireland. Any thoughts on existing design / structure / content. Any extra suggestions are welcome.
