Wrong Descriptions for Title's on Google SERP?
-
I put descriptions in for each of my product categories a couple months ago and a few of my category pages rank high. The problem is that most of my category pages have the wrong meta description on the SERP. The descriptions that are shown sometimes have the home page description, which isn't a big deal, but some have descriptions of different products and most have descriptions of sub categories. Below is an example of a subcategory description (specialty feeders) for a main category:
Co-matic Power Feeders - Products - Shop Gear Inc
<cite>www.shopgearinc.com/products/co-matic-power-feeders/</cite>Specialty Feeders. Specialty Co-matic feeders are built for use on a variety of machines and for specific operations. Shop Gear supplies a variety of specialty **...****Any Suggestions?**Thanks

I second that. Google is creating it's own snippets for the search results rather than using your description because your category descriptions are all the same. Easy fix.

Hey Kyle,
I think that your problem is that you have the same (duplicate) category meta description for all categories, so Google discards it as being irrelevant. Your product meta descriptions on the other hand are unique, so they show up fine.
The solution would be to create unique descriptions for each category and subcategory.
Hope this helps, cheers!

Site migration 301's list on Apache server - when do I take the old migrated URLs off our 301 list?
Howdy! The site was migrated last year to a new platform, therefore the URLs were migrated over using 301 redirect rules. Since then, the server has a huuuuge list of rules for URLs and I wanted to know when can we start taking these off of the list? And, how can I test to see if they are still indexing, do I simply just add the url to the google search bar? Thanks Guys! Kay

Can you have same product name and description on a local and national site at the same time without getting dinged by google?
My question is regarding a few sites we own which are all related. The local site (http://location.company.com) is a extension of the national main site (http://company.com.) We are in the process of launching these new sites as replacements to older sites we created years ago. My first question regarding SEO is it important to the search engines to have unique product content on both sites even though they promote the same products (with same pictures) and brands or can we keep the same product names and descriptions as I hope? I ask this because essentially they are the same site but with with the exception of the local extension..... We thought by re writing all the content on the main pages of both sites along with different; title tags, page title and meta descriptions that that would make the sites different enough to get away with this. Is that the case? Thank you in advance for your assistance, Jake

What should I place in the code to connect my html 5 website to Facebook, Google+ etc...?
I know most people use a CMS these days but I created a html 5 website for my small business using Dreamweaver. I'd like to know what, if anything, I should place in the code to link my website with my social media accounts like Facebook, Google+, Twitter, and Pinterest? I've found information about plugins that are useful if you're using a CMS but I'm not. I placed social media buttons on all of the pages of my website already, and when you click on those buttons they go to my social media accounts. But is there anything that should be placed in the code? Thanks for your help

I changed the {Site Name} of our domain by capitalizing a letter. 48 hours later our SEO rankings are bad. How long does it take to rebound our prior rankings. The {site name} was at the end of every page title.
I changed the {Site Name} of our domain slightly and capitalized a letter. The impact 48 hours later on SEO is really, really bad. How long does it take to recapture our prior rankings and should I change the site name back to the original? The {site name} was at the end of every page title. Thanks for any help/advice on this. We worked so hard to get our business on the first page for many keywords and "POOF" we are gone now.

Universal Local Results & Venice Update - What's what?
There is some buzz in the community regarding the Venice Update of the Google Algorithm. Google has said the following about this: "Improvements to ranking for local search results. [launch codename “Venice”] This improvement improves the triggering of Local Universal results by relying more on the ranking of our main search results as a signal."

source:http://insidesearch.blogspot.com/2012/02/search-quality-highlights-40-changes.html A lot of Blog posts refer to this update and discuss the effect of the location of the googler on the ranking of "standard/traditional results". My question is: Does the term 'Local Universal Results' include "standard/traditional" results or is it used by Google to refer to 'Google Places' Results in the standard SERP? So, are the results that are impacted by Venice recognizable as 'Local Results' (by the teardrop and google Maps and so on), or does it influence 'standard/traditiona results' as well, other than simply pushing them down by inserting Google Places results in the SERP? Thanks a lot! 1WWBV.jpg0
