To positively know in advance? Nah. But there are some things to do to give yourself a pretty good idea.
1. Calibrate recent history. SpyFU, SEMRush, iSpionage and Google & Bing all display data at prices ranging from free to a monthly subscription. All have trials. We like iSpionage and SEM Rush. There are others too. Your mileage may vary.
2. Remember that AdRank in Google AdWords is a simple function and determines ad positioning.. The forumula for AdRank is simply: Quality Score times Bid. Ah, but what goes into quality score? Mostly CTR, but if that is unavailable, Google will project based on the account, the competition and a bunch of variables. A keyword's QS is not turned on by default. You need to change your columns and add it.
3. Make sure you did the needful by syncing your landing page, your ad copy and your keywords. If you're using broad keywords, make sure you have your negative lists in place.
There is a ton more. Head to AdWords and start ensuring you're covering all your bases.
But the most important advice I can give you is this: **You may not need to be in the first three positions. ** You need to run your ads and check your stats. Look at your conversion results after a statistically significant amount of data has accrued. Segment your campaign by position and see if there is any difference between positions. There may or may not be. More importantly, you may be generating a higher return (however you're defining return by not chasing a position).
Do the smart stuff first, launch and calibrate based on real data. Slice every way you can. I have clients who advertise on weekends with a premium and others for whom mid-week rocks.
The first thing to do is to run a profitable campaign. Position preference, a setting now long gone, is best used for campaigns with dozens of conversions across each position while also adjusting for day of week and time of day.
Or you could let Google set your CPC, but I don't think that's appropriate for anyone charging for PPC management services.
Good luck!

there are no guarantees, but yes there are ways to maximize your chances (age of ads from competitors can count against you as one out of control factor)
you can use the tools google provides such as google traffic estimator and keyword tool to find out data about your keyphrases and their competitiveness. The more competitive a kw, the more you can expect to pay for it during your preferred peak hours of search (yes you can also vary your bids on ads by hours of day using automated rules, after you establish with some time what are the best hours of the day with regards to your traffic and adwords clicks)
In traffic estimator google gives you a pretty close idea of the costs you can expect and the a semi-close image of what you can expect with regards to results. use the **Daily estimates **bar on the bottom of that page for best results. you must have your adwords account already hooked up for best results.
Hope this helped & good luck!

How to know competitors keywords for adwords
I want to run google campaign for adwords and I want to target keywords that my competitor is ranking for. How can I know what are the keywords that are helping my competitors the most. Is there some way so that I can know what my competitor is bidding for those keywords. I heard it also depends on the landing page quality. Please suggest the best strategy to run adwords at lower cost and yet perform well. I am willing to run campaign for this website . It is basically meant to connect manufacturers representatives and independent sales reps to businesses. Any suggestions are welcome.

Does anyone know if there are any adwords guideline restrictions against naming a product with the term "Clinically Proven?"
If you do a search for something like "protein powder" there are the sponsored ads where you can shop. Does anyone know if there are any guidelines against naming a product with "Clinically Proven." For example, "Clinically Proven Protein Powder." Any guidance, insight, or links helping to answer this question would be appreciated.

CPC or CPM for Google Display Network?
HI all I'm setting up my first Remarketing campaign on the display network. I'm targeting those that have visited a specific product page at the moment and therefore there won't be a massive amount of traffic to remarket to - roughly no more than 50 clicks/day. My question is - what is the best bidding option for a campaign like this? Not sure whether to go for CPM or traditional CPC. I have previously found CPM much better for Facebook but obviously thats very different to Google. All help appreciated!

I want to try some Google PPC ads on other sites but don't know what i'm doing.
We have seen a massive drop in traffic this year and i am contemplation using banner ads to try to increase sales and also to help with marketing. the problem is i know nothing about doing this. I have used it in the past but to limited success and i was just stabbing in the dark. I have a few questions. Am i better to target keywords related to the product or to the people who may buy my products? Is it better for direct sales or brand awareness? What kind of ROI can i expect if i get it working well? Is it better to pay for the big keywords or pic all the low hanging fruit? Does it work? Should i employ an expert, are they worth it? Any insights into the world of PPc would be a massive help.

High CTR, high CPC?
In a lot of my campaigns, the keyword with the highest CTR also has the highest average CPC. I'm not sure if I should lower or raise my bid. For example, right now the Adgroup Max CPC is $0.50 and the keyword with the highest CTR/CPC is at $1.60 with a QS of 7. I'm not sure whether to lower or raise this bid? It actually has the lowest amount of impressions as well. I'm not sure what to do

Does anyone know of an excel template for creating keyword combinations?
I am looking for an Excel template with Macros that would allow me to drop a column of keywords next to a column of modifiers and it would build out thousands of keywords with a Macro. Can anyone drop their best SEO/SEM Excel template spreadsheet links in the comments?
