Blog articles on website vs submitting to article submission sites
-
I had some articles created for a client. The site is on WordPress. I'm wondering if it is best to add the articles to the blog page of the website or if it is better to submit the articles to ezine articles. Or can I submit the same article to both places? Is there a strategy that should be followed generally speaking when creating content for the blog vs article submission sites? The goal is to increase the ranking for target keywords. I realize that the answers could take a lot of different directions. But generally speaking I would like to know, If I have an article where is the best place to add it to achieve better rankings for target keywords? Thanks for the help.

You could post the originals on your main website first and then rewrite the articles and syndicate them on other sites for backlinks, Generally speaking I don't think its a good idea to post the same content to your own site and other sites, though if you really must do it make sure the article is indexed on your site first before you post it elsewhere.
Also please be aware that you probably wont just get just 1 backlink if you post to Ezine as a lot of people syndicate the articles it would probably lead to the article being posted in a lot of places so be careful with exact match anchor text and generally don't post the same content on Ezine and your main money site.
Hope that helps!

Yes, there is a down side to putting them in both places and that is duplicate content. You can use cross-domain canonicals to indicate which is the original one, but if you don't have control over the other site, you cannot be sure they will cooperate.

I'd mix things. The best, most informative, image rich article should go on the client's website (they'll attract natural links over time, which are the best), some good articles could be written for gust blogging (work only with high quality blogs), a few articles on article directories.
-
If they are kickass quality articles then post them on your own website.
If they are crappy then give them to your competitors.
If they are in between then improve them to kickass quality.
-
As a recommendation, do not use article submission sites. Most of them are of low quality and contain a lot of spam. Instead try outreaching bloggers or webmasters for guest post opportunities on related-niche websites.
As for post the article on your blog vs another website, it really depends on a lot of factors, including the article's target audience, how popular is the website you'd be able to submit it to, where in the lifespan of your blog are you, what your goals are, etc.
There's an excellent article with a lot of opinions that cover this topic: http://thinktraffic.net/guest-post-or-own-site
Hope this helps!

Thanks for your response Linda. The content is definitely unique and good quality. I believe it could be of higher value, but I do believe that it does provide value.
Is there a downside to putting the content in both places (blog and article submission site)? If the content should be different do you have any suggestions in determining what content to put on the blog vs an article submission site?
Thanks.

It can sometimes make sense to submit content to a site that has higher visibility and traffic than yours to get the exposure, but in general the best place to put your own content is on your own site, certainly if you want to rank for target keywords.
Also, you mention that you had some articles created for a client. Keep in mind that if this is content that is churned out in bulk, it is not likely to do well. You should make a point of using unique and high quality material.

Adding backlinks in old articles?
I am trying to get a few more links to get a few of my pages to rank and I am thinking about adding some more backlinks on my own site on some of the old blog articles as well as some of my other related blogs. My question is - is it still beneficial to link from these articles that are say 1 year old or more, or would it be far more valuable to write new articles on the blog containing those same links?

Creating a separate blog off our website
A while ago we purchased some domains that are related to our industry. I'm fairly sceptical about using them, but I am interested what peoples thoughts are. We are currently producing quite alot of engaging content and although it's industry related, it is sometimes quite broad and not always appropriate for our company blog. I have been debating whether or not it will be a good idea to use one of the domain names that we have purchased to create more of an industry blog that is off our website. I'm not sure if this is considered a "black hat" technique by using domains registered to us? And also whether or not Google will punish because we are blogging from the same IP address and linking back to our site ? I look forward to hearing what people think. Thanks,
