Changing my physical Address. How do I?
-
I have a flower delivery website and flower shop in Edmonton. When I set us the website I used my office address and not the Flower shop Address. We are moving now and I am moving the Website and changing my map listing to be at the flower shop now but the flower shop already has a google map listing. What is the best way to move this business into the flower shop without being punished by Google? Should I delete the current map listing at the flower shop or should i Just change the address and website of the flower shops listing to my website?
Sorry I know I have not explained it well but its kinda complicated. Any help would be great as I just want to make sure I do this right.
This is my map and website listing. https://plus.google.com/112887922864576573528/about?gl=ca&hl=en
This is the flower shop's website and listing. https://plus.google.com/101712543043690197786/about?gl=ca&hl=en
Thanks

I'm reading Christopher's explanation a little differently. Christopher, are you saying you have a single business (a flower shop) that you originally listed at something like your home office address, but that the flower shop is now moving and you want it to be listed at its new location? If so, this is the procedure:
-
Edit the existent Google listing to show the new address. This may require re-verification and may result in ranking loss, at least temporarily.
-
You may also lose your reviews. However, if you have the new Google Places for Business Dashboard, the good news is that it is possible to request that Google moves your old reviews to the new location. Read Googler Jade's explanation of this here:
https://productforums.google.com/forum/#!category-topic/business/3IyA72bx3o4
If you have the old dashboard, you cannot do this and will likely lose any reviews associated with the old address.
- Launch a citation cleanup campaign in which you discover and edit all mentions of the business across the web and update them to reflect the new address. This includes mentions on your website of the old address.
If you are saying that you are also changing domain names (not sure if this is what you meant) you need to change this everywhere, too.
You may experience some fluctuations in rankings, but hopefully you can keep working towards building authority over time.

Hey Christopher
Just to clarify:
- You have two businesses (A & B) both in Edmonton and running at two separate addresses.
- You are moving business A into the address of business B
You do not state what the actual problem is here but I am going to assume it has something to do with a loss of traffic / visibility in local search due to a changed address and merging of the two businesses (please correct me if this is wrong). I see strong local results (7 pack #1) for floral delivery edmonton canada / flower delivery edmonton canada but much less strong results for the other business.
I like to think in real world terms and if these are two distinct businesses, related, but distinct then really Google should not have a problem with this if they are in the same address so I see no reason why you would be 'punished' for this. Lots of physical addresses house more than one office / business so as long as you are not looking to cheat, then you should be fine.
So, we have to think about the practicalities of doing this:
- Change address on website
- change address on all citations to match new address
If we want to maintain (and possibly improve) our local SEO then we have to be fastidious in our approach at identifying and updating all external listings of the address (be that structured or unstructured citations).
I would approach this as follows.
**1. Identify all external citations & document in a spreadsheet. **
To do this we need to google for all listings for your business. Structured citations are easy so something like:
"business name" "post code" -www.url.co.uk
You are basically looking for business name, postcode and removing any listings from your own site.
For the unstructured citations you may need to use a little more Google-Fu and play with this a little and look for mentions of your brand name + location - your website. Play with it, be thorough, find all mentions of your site
"business name" "phone number" -www.url.co.uk
"business name" "location" -www.url.co.uk
etcThen, document all of this in a spreadsheet and start to work through these listings updating the address.
2. Update address on your website, social profiles and any citations under your control
3. Go to work updating all the other structured and unstructured citations
You may need to verify the new address and jump through some hoops so you may see a drop in visibility for a short period but if you are thorough here you will likely come out the other side stronger with better and more consistent citations.
Top tip - co occurrence of keywords and external reviews are hot topics in local SEO so look at this as a chance to update and improve any citations you find and talk about your business, services and make note of any you can look for that can have reviews added.
Ultimately, you should not be punished if you are not doing anything nefarious here so do what you need to do and look at it as an opportunity to improve your listings as you go.
I have not added two existing businesses to one address like this but we have moved lots of businesses from one address to another and usually made solid improvements in the process.
Hope that helps
Marcus

Has anyone noticed an Adwords algorithm change early this month?
I was digging into one of my accounts and noticed that previous well-performing ads were not being shown this month. My settings are set to Optimize for conversions: Show ads expected to provide more conversions but whichever way I look at the data, ads that were doing well previously are now only being shown about 0.1% of the time. Has anyone experienced this before or know of a possible Adwords algorithm change?

Very odd behavior. Google is changing “%20” to “+” in my URLS
I just realized many of the links on my site are BROKEN when entered from a Google SERP. This didn’t used to be this way. I have no idea what’s going but I’m worried. It involves a folder of our site that has a space in it. Google is even displaying the proper “%20” in the SERP but when I click the link it replaces that “%20” with a + which breaks the link!! You can see this in action by typing in “brown jordan sheffield furniture” without quotes into Google. You’ll see our site come up first and displaying this link sheffieldfurniture.com/Other%20Furniture/BrownJordan.html but when you click it the link is broken! This is happening on many of our pages! Anyone know what in the world is going on?

Changing Domains - How much link juice is lost with 301 redirect?
My company is thinking about rebranding and moving over to a new domain. While we dont have a lot of backlinks, we do have some very valuable ones that we hate to lose. That being said, I think we are in such an infancy that the backlinks we have shouldnt prevent us from rebranding if thats what we choose to do. I am just trying to get an idea of how moving to a new domain will effect the domain authority if we redirect all the pages? Is the best thing to do simply re-direct, or should we reach out to our most valuable links and let them know the domain/link has changed and hopefully they change their link to us? How much is lost by simply 301 every page? We are getting around 70 organic clicks per day and would rather not start from zero again 🙂

Effect of changes on the Content page on search ranking
Hi, I have a question related to my ranking on Google Search On the content pages of my website, there is a section where our content keeps on changing. Whenever a visitor enters new information, Old information will be removed from the page. Therefore our content page is dynamic. Does this make us difficult to rank for particular keyword / overall.

LinkSmart Raises $4.7M to Dynamically Change Links
LinkSmart is a startup trying to put a new spin on link management by providing a platform to dynamically change links. They just raised $4.7M, and TechCrunch posted a quick blurb on them here that is worth reading. In short, the application will allow a site owner to change all of the text links on their site in real-time. The idea is that this will help improve click-through rates, optimize traffic, etc. How do you guys see this from an SEO perspective? It seems a bit scary from an indexing standpoint if links are never consistent. Also, the flow of link juice will be inconsistent. Any thoughts?

How changing my domain name brought back rankings.
First I would not recommend doing this to anyone else, but my circumstances were extreme.
Industry News | | AlanMosley
Let me explain to those that did not read previous posts on the subject. I had a domain thatsit.net.au, I had never really promoted it as I used a keyword domain to rank in search engines but kept this domain mainly for email, but having said that it did rank ok considering, it ranked first for my business name at least.
A few moths back I decided to promote it and check the rankings, I was surprised to see that it ranked last for almost every thing,. Even my business name. Let me impress when I say last I mean in most cases absolute last and if not last very, very close to last.
I decided to get some links happening to move it of bottom, in my experiences a site that ranks that bad even a few links with show a big jump in rankings, it is easier to get from page 1000 to page 900 than it is to get from page 2 to page 1. The site had about 200 links and I pushed that up to about 1,000 but I was still at the bottom even for long tails searches where I was the only exact match on the internet.
asking for advice I got responses like you need better links and the such, this did not account for the sudden drop in rankings, as I knew the history I knew that thee was something deeper going on, I asked Google for reconsideration they said there was no manual action taken.
I should also mention I ranked very well in Bing all this time and still do.
By now I was getting paranoid that someone was stuffing me up somehow as a last resort I changed the domain name from thatsit.net.au to thatsit.com.au I did this about 10 days ago.
Today I searched for my company name and I came up #4 not bad from not being in the top 1,000 a few days ago.
Rankings are not where they used to be but I can handle that, I have 301’ed across all my links and have stated to change over the links I control, but as I still don’t know why the other domain would not move from the bottom as search results I am nervous that I may 301 over the problem.
I have never really done anything in the way of Black Hat SEO that would get me banned, maybe a bit of light grey over the years but nothing to worry about.
Anyhow I am non the wiser as to why things happened like they did. But I did want to report back to others that read the posts and thought that maybe I was imaging things.
I was never really depended on the domain ranking, what really bothers me is not knowing why the .net.au domain fell from rankiings and I still don’t know why.1 -
How long after making changes will position on Google be altered?
I'm curious as to how long Google updates take these days? I'm just getting back into SEO after 9 years and I recall back in the day there was a monthly "dance" during which page results were updated. Is it more frequent now? Thanks
