Dofollow OR nofollow for internal links

We recently changed our wordpress site and I have noticed that in the new theme all the internal links are set to nofollow. I understand that Google might not decide page rankings based on internal links but isn't it good practice to do a follow on internal links to highlight the relative importance of a page

Yeah, that sounds strange. I would expect footer links to, say, a template creator to be nofollow but not normal internal links. That having been said, all it would do is prevent pagerank from flowing off any given page. Your site would still be indexed and spidered but your inner pages wouldn't rank well as well unless you had some external links going to them.

If I were you I'd remove them but it's not a fatal mistake.
