Yellow pages, how to improve rankings?
-
We have a huge database of companies in the baltic region (www.business-baltics.com) the page is completely yellow pages with no unique texts or anything. How would you improve the Search Engine Rankings for a website like this?
And how do you do a link building for a page like this?

Hi Markas,
Unfortunately, we've now moved into an area that is not within my area of expertise. It would be best if you would start a new thread with this new, separate question so that you can title it something that will earn attention from our members and associates with knowledge about domain extensions. It's almost always better to start a new thread if a new question comes up that is not related to your original question. Hope this tip helps!

Do you think we should rely on one domain with 7 languages or buy 7 domains for 7 languages? Because I believe that .de domain ranks better in German Google than .com/de ? What do you think?

Hi Markas,
If your goal is to be running a high-quality Yellow Pages-type directory for the Baltics, then it's a good start to get as many businesses as you can into your index. Things that will improve the authority of your directory might include:
-
Getting business owners to take control of their listings and add their own details to them, including business descriptions, hours of operation, payment forms accepted, parking available, credentials, years in business, website address, photos etc. Take a look at Google+ Local listings, YP listings, Yelp Listings and see the types of information being included on the individual listings to make the rich sources of information.
-
Harness UGC. Become a review platform and enable customers to review their favorite business, the way sites like Yelp and TripAdvisor do. This will build up the unique, useful content on your directory with nearly all of the work being done by members who use the directory and want to review businesses they patronize.
-
Form relevant partnerships. In the world of YP and local business indexes, a lot of data changes hands. Take a look at the relationships documented in Get Listed's Local Search Ecosystem infographic and you will see how different players team up to share data: https://getlisted.org/static/resources/local-search-data-providers.html. Unfortunately, I don't have any first-hand experience with the local business scene in the Baltics, but if you can identify partners, you can help one another build authority.
-
Then, there is the obvious: making sure your directory is search engine friendly. Be sure all important URLs can be crawled and that your navigation system is easy to use. Be sure you've got good basic content on your site (contact page, about page, policy pages, etc.) and then see what else you can build that will make your directory site unique and useful. Be sure you've covered the basics of on-page SEO to make your pages as clear as possible to search engines and human users.
These are just a few ideas. I think the main thing here is for you to study how other directories have gone from being small-time to becoming major players. If there aren't currently a ton of well-established local business indexes in your geography, you may have an exciting opportunity to become a major player. It really depends on the competition. Study local competition and look at the big guys in countries like the US to see what makes them tick. Hope this helps!

Does having Multiple Similar Topic pages hurt my ranking?
Hi, We have an ecommerce store and currently have topic pages setup for each category/location combination, each topic page lists relevant products available for sale, so for example Most Popular Birthday Party products in UK
Intermediate & Advanced SEO | | cmavroudisyahoocom
Most Popular Birthday Party products in London
Most Popular Birthday Party products in Manchester We are now looking at ways of capitalising on longtail keyword searches and a potential solution is to expand the number of Topic Pages/Location combinations so for example Most Popular Birthday Party products in UK
Cheapest Birthday Party products in UK
Birthday Party products for small groups in UK
Birthday Party products for large groups in UK
Children Birthday Party products for in UK
etc In general would this be a positive or negative thing to do for our site to give each longtail keyword its own dedicated topic page (given that our crawl budget is not necessarily high). Or should we just try to add longtail keyword to the original topic page itself and make that one rank better? Thanks0 -
Should I optimize the login page? Will it affect the website SEO ranking?
I'm trying to resolve the site crawl issues that we have on our website. One of the links that has different issue types together is our login page. Currently we have two login pages that have the same content but different sub domains. **However I'm wondering if optimizing SEO on our login pages affects our website SEO ranking and if it's something better to do or not. ** To point out the details of the issues, the issue types that the logins pages have are "duplicate title", "duplicate content", "missing H1", "missing description", "thin content", "missing canonical tag" I'd appreciate your help, thank you!

Frequent Blog Content-Effective in Improving Ranking?
To what extent will posting quality blog posts 2 to 3 times per week have the following effects: 1. Improve ranking for specific keywords?
Intermediate & Advanced SEO | | Kingalan1
2. Create backlinks to our website
3. Increase MOZ domain authority
4. Increase organic search traffic Assume that the blog posts are geared towards answering user inquiries and are also posted on our social media accounts. Would such an approach be better than engaging in a link building campaign, in the sense that the links will be created organically by users that want to link to our site? Thanks,

Ranking dynamic landing pages
I have a client and I'm working on a project with their development team. We're creating dynamic landing pages populated with their lead data. Similar to the style of linkedin. For example, someone searches for "demand generation manager" and one of our pages with contact information (some) shows up in the search results. www.leadgenius.com/demandgenerationjobs (or something like that. we have yet to flesh this out). We're also looking into different backlinking strategies to support optimizing the above mentioned pages in addition to their new site launching this month. What is the best way to optimize the dynamic pages as well as the main site in tandem or independently?

The Wrong Page Is Still The Only One Ranking
For some reason, the search term "Tampa Personal Injury Attorney," shows this page of our's http://www.kempruge.com/personal-injury/ on the second page, but omits this page http://www.kempruge.com/tampa-personal-injury-attorney/ (the correct one). The correct one only shows up in omitted results. I have posted this question before. I made the changes suggested to me, and it actually worked for a couple weeks. But, it reverted back. I tried for the last two months to fix this on my own, but I just can't figure it out. Does anyone have any idea what to do here? Incredibly appreciative of any assistance, Ruben

Ranking slipped to page 6 from page 1 over the weekend?
My site has been on page one for 2 phrases consistently from May onwards this year. The site has fewer than 100 backlinks and the link profile looks fairly even. On Friday we were on page 1, we even had a position 1, however now we are on page 6. Do you think this is Penguin or some strange Google blip? We have no webmaster tools messages at all. Thanks for any help!

Re-platform effects on Page Rank
We are performing a major replatform for an ecommerce client who has many top listings on page 1 in Google SERPs for very competitive terms. We are implementing a 301 redirect for all existing URLs that they have now to the appropriate new URLs, but the client is concerned with how deploying a new site with 100% new URLs and site structure will impact their Page Rank. From our experience, the 301 redirects should cover it but wanted to see if there is a way to predictively forecast page rank effects as a result of re-platforming.

Rankings for Home vs. Internal Pages - Potential 301?
Hi everyone: A site I'm working with until recently was ranking page 1 for its primary keyword. For the last month, they've dropped to page 4. One thing we've noticed is that the page that is ranking is an internal page (http://www.example.com/keyword-string) and at this point, everything ranking above us is ranking based on the root domain (http://www.competitor.com). We've eliminated Panda, penalties, and any other obvious causes for the drop in rankings. We have similar or better page rank, external links, domain trust, etc. in comparison to the sites still ranking page 1. We think this may be part of our problem. Has anyone else dealt with this? What did you do to change it and how did it work? We're considering eliminating the existing internal page and 301'ing to the home page. The keyword in question is the core of the business, so this is a natural change, but we're loath to lose years of investment in promoting the internal page. Also, the site was originally optimized with the primary keyword throughout (appears in META tags, headers on multiple pages). How important is it to clear these out to make Google see the home page as most relevant? Thanks!!
