Should i put a full article on my home page to get google to visit more
-
Hi, our site is www.in2town.co.uk and i am thinking of putting an article on my home page in the middle under where it says lifestyle news, and getting rid of the middle column and instead have the latest news there to try and get google to visit more.
I would like to know if you think this would look messy and not user friendly and if you think if i did do it would it get google to visit the site more often.
all day we are always adding articles but on the home page it only shows a few lines of the article so i am concerned that these few lines are not getting google interested in visiting our site more often.
we were on page one with our site but now since the upgrade we are on page eight so we are trying to combat this
The article would change each time we put a new article on the site. so the article could be on there for ten mins before a new one is there
any thoughts on this would be great

cheers chris, i will focus on that.

Content provides relevance; links and offsite references provide ranking ability and support relevance. It's those offsite factors to do the most influencing of your crawl rate. My suggestion is to focus less on the actual crawl rate and instead focus on learning who your audience members are, what their needs are and on using your writing skills to create content that they'll want to share. When you're doing that, your crawl rate will go up. Oh yeah, links will help with that too.

That was a very interesting article, i am just checking to make sure that my links are natural.
we get people linking to our sites because they like an article or the site but we have read about bad links which is used by people who want to drop your site rankings, i am not sure how to find these though.
What would be the best way to get google to visit your site more. would i be wasting my time by having an article on my home page which would change all the time to show fresh content on my home page, or is it enough that i am always adding new content to the site.

You hadn't mentioned the "upgrade" and if the site was recently re-designed, that could be a contributor to your issue and It may not be a penalty at all. On the penalty issue however, Google may tell you that no manual penalty has been assessed but that doesn't rule out an algorithmic penalty to your site--algorithmic penalties are not something that will verify.

Hi thanks for this. I have contacted google to find out if we have been penalized and they said no but i will read the info, many thanks
-
Making that change isn't going to get the page indexed more often and crawl frequency probably isn't your primary problem. If you've been penalized, you're really going to need to sort out what the cause of penalty was if you're to recover from it effectively. You might try reading through this post for a starting place on penalty ID:

Can't get Google to index our site although all seems very good
Hi there, I am having issues getting our new site, https://vintners.co indexed by Google although it seems all technical and content requirements are well in place for it. In the past, I had way poorer websites running with very bad setups and performance indexed faster. What's concerning me, among others, is that the crawler of Google comes from time to time when looking on Google Search Console but does not seem to make progress or to even follow any link and the evolution does not seem to do what google says in GSC help. For instance, our sitemap.xml was submitted, for a few days, it seemed like it had an impact as many pages were then visible in the coverage report, showing them as "detected but not yet indexed" and now, they disappeared from the coverage report, it's like if it was not detected any more. Anybody has any advice to speed up or accelerate the indexing of a new website like ours? It's been launched since now almost two months and I was expected, at least on some core keywords, to quickly get indexed.

Should you use google url remover if older indexed pages are still being kept?
Hello, A client recently did a redesign a few months ago, resulting in 700 pages being reduced to 60, mostly due to panda penalty and just low interest in products on those pages. Now google is still indexing a good number of them ( around 650 ) when we only have 70 on our sitemap. Thing is google indexes our site on average now for 115 urls when we only have 60 urls that need indexing and only 70 on our sitemap. I would of thought these urls would be crawled and not found, but is taking a very long period of time. Our rankings haven't recovered as much as we'd hope, and we believe that the indexed older pages are causes this. Would you agree and also would you think removing those old urls via the remover tool would be best option? It would mean using the url remover tool for 650 pages. Thank you in advance

Hybrid page showing in Google search results
Hello Mozzers We have two pages showing on page 1 of Google for the search term 'inset day sessions' This url is the correct page which we want site visitors to see. http://www.laughology.co.uk/teacher-workshop-s-inset-days/inset-days The other page page seems to be a strange hybrid of how the page used to look and the new content we have included. It's a mess and we don't want visitors clicking on this link. There is no menu link to this page on the site, but it is showing as a link In SH404sef http://www.laughology.co.uk/schools/teacher-workshop-s-inset-days/ What is the best way to deal with this? Thanks Ian nKOHYbn

Page Title Displaying differently on Google
Hi i am wondering why page title is display differently on google search. The combination of words that are being displayed on google are not on the page and the page title is simply "Camera Filters", however the page is showing as "our range of Camera Filters" (with the same capitalisation). http://awesomescreenshot.com/0cf4r09y27 I have optimised the age as best i can so it removes the OUR RANGE OF preface, however no luck. Any info would be appreciated. Cheers

Can I put the tag in the MasterPage of my ASP.NET website or does this need to be specific to each page?
Hi Moz Community, I am a designer/junior SEO'er and have been working with our web developer to setup SEO oriented redirects and the rel canonical tag on our ASP.NET page running MasterPages - www.tisbest.org. I know setting up an incorrect canonical tag can be devastating so I'm hoping for some guidance. Can we put the <title> </span>Charity Gift Cards | Donation Gift Ideas | TisBest Philanthropy</p> <p style="color: #5e5e5e; font-family: Helvetica, Arial, sans-serif; font-size: 12px; font-style: normal; font-variant: normal; font-weight: normal; line-height: normal;"><span style="color: #5e5e5e;"> </span></p> <p style="color: #5e5e5e; font-family: Helvetica, Arial, sans-serif; font-size: 12px; font-style: normal; font-variant: normal; font-weight: normal; line-height: normal;"><span style="color: #5e5e5e;"></title> Thanks!
