Duplicating content on more than one social network
-
I am just getting in to social media for my company and i can find an answer to my questions. Different people give a different answer.
Question: i have written a post and uploaded it to our Google+ page. If i upload the same post / content to our Facebook page, will this fall foul of the 'duplicate content' rule with Penguin? Or does that rule only relate to websites?
Any Guru's out there with an answer?
Much appreciated.

Are you posting the full text or a link to the content on your site? I would recommend putting the content on your site and sharing the URL on Google+, Linkedin, or Facebook.
Regardless, I have never seen content on Google+ or Facebook impact anything to do with Google in regards to duplicate content.

Hi,
Thank you for your answer, i appreciate it.
We are in the UK security industry B2B and very few people use social media and we are just starting. I am not worried so much about people getting notifications and receiving duplicate content because they are using several social networks. In this industry, if they use one network, it is a miracle. My concern is the duplicate content and Penguin.
Obviously i will try to make content differ as we go forward, but content generation is not easy for such a small company as ours.
So all in all, do you feel that if i post duplicate content on Linkedin, facebook and G+, that it is not going to fall foul of google?
Many thanks
Si

Hi DaddySmurf,
While this query does depend on the extent of social media usage for your company, but a general sentiment with users is the desire to unique content catering to the strengths of each platform. Using similar content won’t necessarily fall under the duplicate content rule of Penguin, but it does create the impression of only basic maintenance of social media platforms for your company. Sometimes it may be easier to load a quick blog post or the like across multiple platforms, but based on user experiences documented elsewhere on this forum, it would not necessarily be a recommended strategy across the board, so to speak.

Manual submission vs automated submission to social bookmarking sites for blog posts
Howdy Mozzers! Say we're creating great content on our blog and would like this content to be seen and shared by as many people possible. Should we submit our blog posts manually to social book marking sites or use an automated service like Only Wire? The advantage of using automation is obvious, saves time on submission. Are there disadvantages? Is google bot going to raise an eyebrow and give us a dirty look? Cheers! MozAddict

Tool to get all the Social Shares for a Domain
Does anyone know of a tool that can get you the total, or close to it, social shares an entire domain has received? I know of... http://www.sharedcount.com/ - but this only gets shares for the entered URL not the entire domain. http://www.pagesort.com/ - this seems to dig a little deeper but not deep enough. I know opensite explorer gets some data as well but still seems very limited.

Social Media Approaches for a Pest Control Company
Hi Everyone, I am working with a pest control company that is looking to branch out into social media. Their primary goal is to connect with their existing customers to improve retention. The secondary goal is to potentially pick up new clients. With that said, I wanted to see if you all had some ideas on things that they could tweet/facebook about on a regular basis? Posting about bugs on a daily basis gets pretty boring. I know Rand has been talking a lot lately about not being so narrow, so maybe we should talk more about general home improvement? Any thoughts or ideas? Thanks! EDIT: I should clarify that this is a company that has maintenance plans. You don't call them only when you have a problem. You sign up with them, and they treat your property every 3 months, or whenever you call. Only about 2% of their customer base is one-off phone calls to fix 1 problem and never come back again. I don't think their existing customer base will have any issues with Liking them on Facebook or following them on Twitter. The initial plan is to incentivize them to do so, but once we get the like/follow, we want to continually be in front of them with interesting content, contests as Jay suggested, etc.

How can small businesses use Social Media?
This is a question that has been nagging at me for more than a year now. I've played around on Twitter and LinkedIn, and am a frequent user of Facebook. I really struggle to see how a small business can utilize Twitter, LinkedIn and Facebook. Let's get the obvious, "Tell your friends about your business" post out of the way. I have a friend that posts about his business everyday, the same thing, over and over. I have since blocked his feeds because they are annoying. I always pay attention to when someone makes a post about a new business they are starting because I want to watch and see how they use social media to grow, but it never seems to develop into anything more than a simple "I have a new business." I don't want to be the guy at the neighborhood Christmas party that everyone ignores because they think the only thing I will talk about is my business. I've also tried doing the "Build real relationships on Twitter" approach. It seems like everyone I chose to follow and try to become friends with was a bot. They didn't post anything, but "Inspiring Quotes" and "Random Facts". I think my real question is "How do small business use social media, WITHOUT being annoying?"

Incentivisation Strategies for Social Sharing of Product Pages
Hey, What are some great tips for gaining social shares on ecommerce product or category pages? I understand great images and video will go along way, but it's difficult on a large scale ecommerce store. Receiving an offer for sharing something is great - I honestly cant think of a way to track this strategy in a large scale manner. I can send an email after a purchase making an offer to go back to the page to share, but how would I track this? Thanks.
