Disvow tool - how do i know?
-
If i submit links via Google webmaster tools disvow tools - do i get any kind of confirmation it worked or not from Google?
I have a standard message saying 'disvow links updated' as soon as i submitted it.
Also how long roughly does this take to work, does it work much? I removed as many links as i could and the remaining ones submitted to this tool in the correct format.
Any info much appreciated as usual people.

Just curious if you have any Empirical evidence on that thought of it should be used as a last resort? I know that google cautions usage of it, but my hunch is that they are afraid of two situations. The person who disavows all links and hurts their positive link profile and the strategy of someone purposely building suspect links knowing he can remove them.
I'd love your thoughts if you've seen harmful results of using the tool.

Hi Paul,
The disavow tool should be used as a last resort really, you should really try and get the links taken down because Google wants to see you have made an effort. Did you receive the message in Webmaster Tools or is it just an algorithm penalty you received?
-
Google does not give you any indication that your links are actually being disavowed. However, as of this month, if you have errors in your disavow file that would prevent it from working, you would be notified of that when you uploaded the file.
For your disavowed links you will still see them in your backlink profile, even on WMT. Google adds an invisible nofollow as they crawl each link but they don't show any outward evidence of this.
"Is it wise to keep building links at this time which are quality and generally branded? I feel we are stuck currently."
In my opinion Google is getting much better at determining which links are self made and not passing PageRank through those links. If by "building" you mean creating links of your own then IMO it doesn't matter what anchor text you use...you're going to see limited effectiveness by doing this. Google's not perfect and there are some ways right now that you can actually build your own links and succeed. But the whole goal of the engineers working on the search quality team is to make it so that the only links that really pass PageRank are those that are earned.

No there was no response from Google. From what I've gathered from research on the issue, if the issue is an algorithmic penalty there is never a response. You are just altering your site's profile and when the search engine choses to use that information it affects your health in the index. If you receive a manual penalty with an email to your webmaster tools, it's more severe and you need to also send a reconsideration request through the web master tools.
-
That gives me some hope, thank you. Did Google send you any special message to say it had be done?
The issue for us is in 2009 someone did mass distribution of content to poor quality sites for the same anchor text, i've manually removed 110 domains roughly but left with 40. So have had to disvow them, i dont know whether to do a reconsideration request, were just not moving.

We just went through this with a site that got penalized with the Penguin update because a previous SEO company had used a comment spinner that built a spammy profile across numerous porn sites. We uploaded as many as we could find. to the disavow tool.
We experienced about a five week period where none of the pages were ranking in the top 100 for the keywords that we had been tracking. It was only this week that across the board the majority of the keywords have bounced back to page 3. So we have a little more work to do.
Along with the disavow tool we also started a campaign of Authority building links over the last month. If the trigger of Penguin is ratios of spammy links to appropriate ones, we felt this would be a beneficial strategy.

Typical percentage of links found in Webmaster Tools but are not in Open Site Explorer?
50% of our links are found in Webmaster Tools but are not found in Open Site Explorer. Is this normal? If these links are not indexed does that mean our DA will not grow as high as it could until they are crawled?

Strange new links being picked up in Webmaster tools affecting SERPs
Hi, I have a question regarding new links being found by Google, and showing in our latest links file from Webmaster tools. I run this site: http://www.propertysales.com it's a fairly new website with a small (ish) link profile but over the last 3 months I've seen a lot of links being found in Google like this: http://www.financecourier.com/news/story/523316/foreign-carmakers-milk-chinas-cash-cow/full_story.html it's clearly a scrap of a webpage from the FT.com, who we partner with, that has a link to PropertySales.com but the number of links Webmaster tools is seeing is much bigger than we would normally get in any given month. As a rule I would normally ignore scrapper sites as I’ve always assumed Google is smart enough to know which site these are and thus wouldn't affect your SERPs but I’ve also seen a drop in our SERPs over the same month so now I’m thinking these are effecting the sites SEO. Does anybody have any insight into this or advice on the best way to handle this, I looking at going through these site and adding them to our disavow file but this can take a few month to take effect so are they any better options or way to handle this? Thanks for your help in advance. Rufus

Link Building with Widdgets and Tools
Hi, We run a affiliate program and as part of that program we offer free tools that our affiliates can take in order to help them promote our product. We have also used these tools as a link building method as we provide highly useful information. We have seen on Google Link Schemes page (http://support.google.com/webmasters/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=66356) the following part which we believe has only just been added: Links embedded in widgets that are distributed across various sites, for example: Visitors to this page: 1,472

car insurance Our tool basically consists of a link of JavaScript with a link outside of the tool as per the following example: this super widget was provided by <a>mydomain.com</a> We are now concerned that a link building process that we have used for many years is now considered to be gaming Google. We also do something similar with badges that we give out to approved suppliers. These would look something like the following: Approved Supplier http://mydomain.co.uk/ Any recommendations on whether or not the style we are using would now be considered as wrong to Google, even though they add value to our partners sites. Thanks for any help in advance.0 -

I'm aware that spamming tools can lead to ruin..what do you use as a backlink strategy.
But I have had some luck with bookkmaRKING DEMON, and understand the pitfalls of massive submission, but I deal in facts not generalities. If the goal is to mix your links accross the pages in your site, and mix the DA quality, or pr of the links, and have them contextual as well as comments, directories, etc. who cares how it is done as long as it appears natural 1. Linkvana claims to be a posting service for you. you put text in with your link and it posts to relevant sites, the same as you would do manually. For my context links I see this as a better way than begging people to give me a link, or wasting time kissing butt of reporters (kike i did in the past). Anyway there is good and bad with everything. I want to know if anyone knows of anyone who used linkvana and what their experiences is ? And more importantly.... WHAT DOES EVERYONE USE AS A COMPLETE BACK LINK STRATEGY? Thanks
