404 Crawl Diagnostics Report MOZ
-
Hi,
I keep getting 404's appear in the Crawl Diagnostic error warnings.
How do I find out which pages are linking to these 404 pages? How is MOZ finding them?
thanks
Ben

Hey Ben!
Thanks for the question. The best way to do this is to head over to your Crawl Diagnostics page and then exporting the csv. From there, you can sort the 404 column to group them and scroll over to the referrer URL column (all the way at the end). That'll give you the path Roger took to get to the 4XX/5XX error.
This will be made a bit easier in Analytics because we'll list the referrer URL in the UI for these situations, but for now, the csv is your best bet. Let me know if you have any other questions. Thanks!
Best,
Sam

Hi Ben,
When I am fixing 404s, I like to use Screaming Frog (paid if over 500 pages) or Link Sleuth (free), because they do a real-time scan of your site and will find 404 pages and all internal links pointing to those pages.
And since it is real-time, you can do an immediate scan to make sure you fixed your problems (where the Moz scanner takes a week to rescan your site).
Hope this helps,
Mike

Try using Open Site Explorer. It should list all the links that Moz knows of that are pointing to your 404'd pages.

Crawl tests stuck in queue
I have tried to run a number of crawl tests recently for our client's sites outside the US and they have been stuck in the queue for over a week. 3 of them completed, but then 5 are stuck. Anyone experience this? I haven't seen anything about crawl tests having issues right now.

4 days waiting for a Moz Crawl - How quick are yours?
Hi there Please could anyone say how long they have been waiting for crawl results. I requested a crawl on a 20 page website and I have been waiting 4 days since last weekend. I checked Moz Health and there have been no related issues there: http://health.moz.com/ Your response would be welcome. Thanks

All in favor of an "Announcements" category section say MOZ!
So this is just a thought. I am not Rand, therefor I am not the Moz man himself, and therefor I am not telling anybody how to run this website or forum. But, I've been thinking... and usually that a dangerous thing. So many times when I answer a question I end it with: "Keep me posted" "Keep us updated" "Good Luck" In the same light there have been plenty of times when I have had my questions answered by people like EGOL, RobertFIsher, KeriMorget and they have said that they have wanted me to keep them posted. Now sure, some of you are sitting there being Melancholy Mozzers thinking that all those wonderful people are just being polite by adding some nice parting words... but what if I they are being Sincere Seoers? What if I WANT to fill them in and don't want to ask a question? What if... THEY REALLY LIKE ME?!?! I could also send a DM to those 3 people, I mean let's get honest I'm not THAT popular.... but I can dream can't I? Again, this isn't really an SEO question, more of a thought on where I'm supposed to give updates on my project. In all honesty I do want feedback on what I'm doing, and sometimes I don't even know what questions I'm supposed to ask!

Many more 404 being reported in GWT than MA
Hi I have been submitting MA crawl reports to clients developers post going live with a new site migration and instructing them to set up 301's for any 404's still reporting which they have now done (despite instructing them not to go live until all old url's mapped & 301'd to new replacement page, or HP if no replacement). 1) When i look in GWT crawl errors there has been a spike since going live with 660 'page not founds' being reported compared to x11 404's in MA. Could there be a 'lag' in GWT reporting and actually they have already been dealt with just not updated by GWT in this report and the MA report is more accurate ? Should i wait and see/or mark as fixed and see if return tomorrow, or tell dev to immediately investigate ? I have checked some samples links and they are going to 404 type pages so presume they are still broken and urgent issue dev must fix immediately ? 2) How long does it take aprox for the page authority to be transferred via a 301 redirect to a new page since i see some category pages that had good PA and have been 301'd to new category urls, are now showing a PA of just 1 !! Cheers Dan

Pro.moz.com referrals and transactions
Our Google Analytics account reports a significant number of visits and transactions as referrals from pro.moz.com. That is nice and we appreciate this but where is the traffic generated from ? (my first MOZ question)

Moz just did my weekly "crawl" and claims my meta titles and descriptions are "missing," but they aren't. What's up with this?
I can check for my titles and descriptions in the source. They are there, always have been. what in the hell?
