Satellite Website Dilemma - Hosted in House or Elsewhere? Blog or Actual Shop?
-
Hi All,
I have recently noticed a LOT of websites appearing in some of the SERP (example http://goo.gl/UyHZp6) that have an exact match domain (or as near as) and are either thin blogs that have a splash of content, and then link back to Amazon, competitor A competitor B etc. or an online secondary shop.
Getting tired of this I have purchased a couple of exact match domains of my own, but am unsure of the best way to tackle this with long term gains in mind.
The exact match domains I have are the .co.uk and com versions of these:
The ideal scenario for me would be to create the satellite website as a functioning shop specialising in just a small group of specialist products (10 - 12) from a subcategory of the main site. My main store has 1200 + items and this will make the user experience better as I feel as it will make navigation easier, allow for more information to be present without confusing things. It would also allow the customer to feel safe knowing they are buying from a specialist.
However I have the following in mind:
My ecommerce software open cart supports multi store from the same database, this is great and makes management massively easy. It would allow me to brand the satellite store up as specialist store yet manage all orders through one admin portal. The sites would have separate IP addresses, but I am worried about the site being on the same server as the main site, and sharing whois info etc.
Would google think of this as spamming the results? There will be no shared content, and I do not intend to interlink the sites for fear of them looking like a link network.
The other option is to take out some cheap hosting and start building content on a blog similar to this: http://goo.gl/sBB3wY I hate this however as it just seems spammy and as a consumer it annoys me when I find this.
What are your thoughts on how to deal with this?

Honestly... I can't say that I would tell a friend that he should hut toads.

Thanks for the thoughtful reply,
For the time being where do you suggest I find a toad gun for the toads? Also any suggestions on uses for the new domains?
-
About ten years ago I spent lots of time building satellite sites. They made a little money. Then I built a big website that kicked all of their asses.
Decided back then that I would hunt elephants instead of toads. The decision has paid off.
Today, Google is much harder on thin affiliate, spammy websites on cheap hosting with little splashes of content. Next year it is going to be even worse. People are tired of finding spammy affiliate sites in the SERPs.
Go buy an elephant gun is my advice. Toads are becoming extinct.

Slow website
Hi I have just migrated from a custom written php/mysql site to a site using wordpress and woocommerce. I couldnt believe the drop in speed . I am using a few plugins for wordpress - contact forms / social sharing. and I have a few woocommerce plugins for taking payment etc. I am hosting images css's and js's on W3 Total Cache and MAXCDN hoping to speed the site up but tools at http://tools.pingdom.com/fpt sometimes show that the time between browser request and reply can be between 1 and 15 secs. I have searched all day looking for a post I read about two months ago with a tool that seems to look at server responce and redirect processing etc hoping it would help but cant find it. If anyone knows what I am talking about I would appreciate them posting a link The site is http://www.synergy-health.co.uk and an example of an inner page is http://www.synergy-health.co.uk/home/shop/alacer-emergen-c-1000-mg-vitamin-c-acai-berry-30-packets-8-4-g-each/ Any suggestions please? Perhaps I have w3total cache set wrong? Also, as the has been tanked and is in freefal iin google ranking since January would this be a good time to change the structure of Url from home/shop/product to domain.name/brand/product? Thanks in advance !

Does Google see the connection between our 2 websites?
We have a main website and we created a satellite site to support the original one with backlinks. Can I add both sites to the same Google Analytics profile? My programmer said that there is no reason to use a new GA profile for the satellite site, since Google will see the connection between the 2 websites via scripts, Google Plus buttons and other programmed solutions. So, is there a reason to use a new GA account for the satellite site (and later the new satellite sites) as well?

Weebly Blog
Hello, Previously I asked if I should remove my blog from Weebly if I cannot change the page titles as they are being reported as duplicates. The answer was,yes and I headed to Weebly to remove it. Upon looking closer, every page and post does in fact show a different address. Now Im confused, I dont see duplicates but the campaign lists all the blog pages and states they are duplicates. I'm not sure what to do. Am I misunderstanding duplicate page? Thank you.

If a redirecting URL has more value than the website should I move it?
Client has two website addresses: Website A is a redirect to Website B. It has one indexed page. But this is the URL being used in collateral. It has the majority of back links, and citations everywhere list Website A as the URL. Website B is where the actual website lives. Google recognizes and indexes the 80+ pages. This website has very few backlinks going to it. This setup does not seem good for SEO. Moreover, the analytics data is completely messed up because Website B shows that the biggest referral source is... you guessed it Website A. I'm thinking going forward, I should: Move all the content from Website B to Website A. Setup Website B to permanently 301 Redirect to Website A. Is that the best course of action?
