Dealing with close content - duplicate issue for closed products
-
Hello
I'm dealing with some issues. Moz analyses is telling me that I have duplicate on some of my products pages.
My issue is that:
- Concern very similar products
- IT products are from the same range
- Just the name and pdf are different
Do you think I should use canonical url ? Or it will be better to rewrite about 80 descriptions (but description will be almost the same) ?
Best regards.
-
Hello
Actually we though about it when we released the website. The current heading, Title and PDF files are driving some traffic.
As we have thousands of references it's not so easy to get different, and quality content.
I think for now how gonna manually change the 80 duplicate content. But you're definitely right it would be better to get some more options as feedback and reviews.
I gonna think about a way to do this.
Tks a lot !

Thanks for the example. It seems that for a server there would be more information about it that that paragraph. Processor information, RAM, disk space, ports etc. I just did a search and found this info
https://www.avantidataproducts.com/product/ibm/7379c2u
I think the bigger problem is not differentiating these pages from each other on your own site, but differentiating from other sites.
This is just good old content development. You need to see if there is a way to tap into people rating and leaving comments. Do you have any case studies on this product etc. Can you find any other media on it, can you create it. Go to Zappos.com they produce a ton of videos that just describe a pair of shoes. Do you have someone who could be your video representative and you shoot a bunch of videos on your top products and embed them.
I think otherwise, you are just going to be similar to everyone else with the same product.

Hello !
In this case it would be
- http://www.ibremarketing.com/item/ibm-7379c2u-x3400-m3.html
- http://www.ibremarketing.com/item/ibm-7379f2u-x3400-m3.html
I do not like the canonical neither are people are finding those references on Google.
As it's a catalog managed in bulk important with many references it's hard to create 1 page as I need also to get the reference on the title ...
So except rewriting the content, do you think there is another option ?
Tks anyway for such a quick answer

Hard to say without seeing the products and so you may not get much response here more than "it depends". Sit down and be creative, you may be able see if the differences can be highlighted enough that they are different from the others and so you can use them.
Here is what I would do. If you have 4 versions of a widget, create 1 page with information on all four of them. Then you can talk about all of them at once and optimize around the 4 versions. Lets say you have a red, blue and green widget - those are the only differences and everything else is the same. The page should talk about how great the widget is, talk about the 4 colors, have pictures of the widget in all 4 colors, let people vote on what color they like the best, have links to PDFs on each of the 4 widgets etc. This may be the better approach.
I am just not sure about using of the canonical as people probably need to be able to find the different versions of the widget and so you need to make sure that the information is out there. If you setup a page for the 4 versions and then canonical 3 of the versions to the 1, you are still "de-emphasizing" the other 3 versions that people may be searching for.
I really try to only use canonicals if there is an exact duplicate (say a printer friendly version of the original) or I use it for business purpose. Example: I have one site that has city and zip search options for locations - I canonical all my zip result pages to the parent city page - I do this as I know 1) for this area people do not search in the SERPs by zip code so no use optimizing around zips, and 2) the zip pages are pretty much dups of the city page anyway. I only leave the zip pages on my site as an option from a usability for people once they hit my site if they want to search that way.
Good luck!

Query based site; duplicate content; seo juice flow.
Hi guys, We're planning on starting a Saas based service where we'll be selling different skins. Let's say WordPress themes, though it's not about that. Say we have an url called site.com/ and we would like to direct all seo juice to the mother landing page /best-wp-themes/ but then have that juice flow towards our additional pages: /best-wp-themes/?id=Mozify

/best-wp-themes/?id=Fiximoz /best-wp-themes/?id=Mozicom Challenges: 1. our content would be formatted like this:
a. Same content - features b. Same content - price c. Different content - each theme will have its own set of features / design specs. d. Same content - testimonials. How would be go about not being penalised by SE's for the duplicate content, but still have the /?id=whatever pages be indexed with proper content? 2. How do we go about making sure SEO juice flows to the /?id pages too?Basically it's the same thing with different skins. Thanks for the help!0 -
Fix Duplicate Content Before Migration?
My client has 2 Wordpress sites (A and B). Each site is 20 pages, with similar site structures, and 12 of the pages on A having nearly 100% duplicate content with their counterpart on B. I am not sure to what extent A and/or B is being penalized for this. In 2 weeks (July 1) the client will execute a rebrand, renaming the business, launching C, and taking down A and B. Individual pages on A and B will be 301 redirected to their counterpart on C. C will have a similar site structure to A and B. I expect the content will be freshened a bit, but may initially be very similar to the content on A and B. I have 3 questions: Given that only 2 weeks remain before the switchover - is there any purpose in resolving the duplicate content between A and B prior to taking them down? Will 301 redirects from penalized pages on A or B actually hurt the ranking of the destination page on C? If a page on C has the same content as its predecessor on A or B, could it be penalized for that, even though the page on A or B has since been taken down and replaced with a 301 redirect?

Same product in different categories and duplicate content issues
Hi,I have some questions related to duplicate content on e-commerce websites. 1)If a single product goes to multiple categories (eg. A black elegant dress could be listed in two categories like "black dresses" and "elegant dresses") is it considered duplicate content even if the product url is unique? e.g www.website.com/black-dresses/black-elegant-dress duplicated> same content from two different paths www.website.com/elegant-dresses/black-elegant-dress duplicated> same content from two different paths www.website.com/black-elegant-dress unique url > this is the way my products urls look like Does google perceive this as duplicated content? The path to the content is only one, so it shouldn't be seen as duplicated content, though the product is repeated in different categories. This is the most important concern I actually have. It is a small thing but if I set this wrong all website would be affected and thus penalised, so I need to know how I can handle it. 2- I am using wordpress + woocommerce. The website is built with categories and subcategories. When I create a product in the product page backend is it advisable to select just the lowest subcategory or is it better to select both main category and subcategory in which the product belongs? I usually select the subcategory alone. Looking forward to your reply and suggestions. thanks

Duplicated Content with Index.php
Good Afternoon, My website uses Joomla CMS and has the htaccess rewrite code enabled to ensure the use of search engine friendly URLs (SEF's). While browsing the crawl diagnostics I have found that Moz considers the /index.php URL a duplicate to our root. I will always under the impression that the htaccess rewrite took care of that issue and obviously I would like to address it. I attempted to create a 301 redirect from the index.php URL to the root but ran into an issue when attempting to login to the admin portion of the website as the redirect sent me back to the homepage. I was curious if anyone had advice for handling the index.php duplication issue, specifically with Joomla. Additionally, I have confirmed that in Google Webmasters, under URL parameters, the index.php parameter is set as 'Representative URL'.

How to deal with duplicates on an e-commerce website
Hi guys, So we have an e-commerce website and we have some products that are exactly the same but come in different colours. Lets say for example we have a Samsonite Chronolite and this bag comes in 55cm, 65cm and 75cm variations. The same bag also may come in 4 different colours. The bags are the same and therefore have the same information besides maybe the title tag varying due to the size and colour. But the descriptions are the same. How do I avoid Google thinking I am duplicating pages or have duplicated pages. Google things we have duplicated when the scenario is as I have explained. Any suggestions? Best regards,

Problems with ecommerce filters causing duplicate content.
We have an ecommerce website with 700 pages. Due to the implementation of filters, we are seeing upto 11,000 pages being indexed where the filter tag is apphended to the URL. This is causing duplicate content issues across the site. We tried adding "nofollow" to all the filters, we have also tried adding canonical tags, which it seems are being ignored. So how can we fix this? We are now toying with 2 other ideas to fix this issue; adding "no index" to all filtered pages making the filters uncrawble using javascript Has anyone else encountered this issue? If so what did you do to combat this and was it successful?

Issue with duplicate content in blog
I have blog where all the pages r get indexed, with rich content in it. But In blogs tag and category url are also get indexed. i have just added my blog in seomoz pro, and i have checked my Crawl Diagnostics Summary in that its showing me that some of your blog content are same. For Example: www.abcdef.com/watches/cool-watches-of-2012/ these url is already get indexed, but i have asigned some tag and catgeory fo these url also which have also get indexed with the same content. so how shall i stop search engines to do not crawl these tag and categories pages. if i have more no - follow tags in my blog does it gives negative impact to search engines, any alternate way to tell search engines to stop crawling these category and tag pages.
