New site started doing well, now it's tanking
-
Im confused by activity from a site I opened less than a month ago. I ranked in the top ten for the local version of my primary phrase. Within two weeks I was up to number two. I created a few new pages without content in order to build age. I also paid for a pair of clearly marked classified ads at trusted sites thatprovide traffic from potential clients.
Next, I stated revamping my pages by revising and editing content.
my site has dropped like a brick. My content is the best it's been and improving daily.
Im not sure what to do. Should I start over? Do I keep improving my site and give it a few months? Would anyone be willing to review my site and provide a few tips? Fyi, I understand some of my pages need more content.
my formatting is a mess with iOS 7 on iPad.

1. Website - When developing your site, be sure to check how it looks in Internet Explorer, Safari, Google Chrome and Firefox. For mobile IPAD, Iphone and Android. If you have issues, it's probably with your CSS. Many websites use what they call responsive designs. They adapt to the type of device you are using. Even with responsive designs, they require tweaks here and there to get things looking right.
2. Website Tanking - Just to rule out a few items, take a look at your Google Webmaster Tools and see if there are any manual actions (messages) done on your site. Also check Webmaster Tools under section Google Index->Index Status to make sure all your pages are indexed.
3. Local Directories - At a minimum, make sure you are listed in these key directories: Axiom, Infogroup and Localeze. After that, claim/add your information in Citysearch/Citygrid, Local.com, Manta, Primeplace Nokia, Yellowbook, Yellowbot, Yellowee,Yellowpages,Insiderpages,Kudzu, Merchant Circle,Supermedia. There are more but this should keep you busy for a while.
4. Claim your Google Plus, Yahoo Local and Bing Listings
5. Know your competitors. How well does your website look against theirs? Does your site look trustworthy? Use www.opensiteexplorer.org/ to check your backlinks against theirs.
Unfortunately, trying to rank isn't a set it and forget it operation. Keep updating your website, post to your Google Plus, Facebook, Twitter, Website Blog with engaging content.

Hi Jovan,
Very nice that you started working on improving quality of your website. That's a good thing and you should do it with no restrictions in the future.
However, as a SEO it's very important to stop worrying about ranking results on short term. 1 month is certainly to low. Google wants you to focus most energy bringing quality stuff to the users. It discourages over-optimization and even has a patent filed in 2012 (if I'm not mistaken) which de-values websites that do a optimization changes for a wile, just to see how the owner of the website react to lower rankings. If the owner removes the last websites changes after seeing low ranking - google might be facing people who -> optimize for search engines, not for users. We don't actually know if this happens in reality or not, but It certainly encourage us to check for results less - and focus on quality stuff.
So create the best content you cant with all the guidelines in mind and if in 3-6 months you can't see any results, then start worrying and what went wrong.

New sites can rank very highly for a month or two due to the freshness factor. Once this wears off, refreshing content can help a little, but ultimately you will need to get backlinks \ social engagement.
If you haven't done any black hat \ paid backlinking, then your best bet is to keep at it, and work on your content, do some guest posts, circulate some content in the social media channels to get social engagement.
If you want more specific advice you will need to post your url, so we can check out what is going on.

Stopping these scum sites from sending traffic.
What is the best way to deal with these: http://www.goldenclicking.com/ and www.payclicking.com They keep sending my site traffic, however I am not paying for it, and would prefer to stop these sites. The traffic never converts, and I can't see anywhere that I am paying for the traffic (they are not an affiliate, and can't see them on the GDN) - so I don't even know whats in it for them. Has anyone ever dealt with these types of sites previously, tips on getting them to stop. I was just considering black listing there domains so they can't even reach our site. Thanks in Advance. Andy

What is the best way to boost no. of quality sites linking in?
Analysing my site ranking compared to competitors, I see that our weakness is getting others to share our content and link into it via their own blogs and social media - although I would say our social media activity is pretty good. We have also worked on getting listed free on relevant sites related to our product area (learn spanish in spain) in order to increase sites linking but this is still minute compared to our 2 main competitors. (As a note: paid listings are not totally justifiable for us at this point in time but perhaps in the future we will expand on this). Am I missing something here?

Why were all of my Amazon sites deindexed?
March 22nd.. The worst day of my Internet Marketing career. I got the dreaded message: Dear site owner or webmaster of http://www.ricecookerreviewz.com/ We've detected that some of your site's pages may be using techniques that are outside Google's Webmaster Guidelines. If you have any questions about how to resolve this issue, please see our Webmaster Help Forum for support. Here's some interesting points: All of the content is unique and highly targeted to each product. Site is around 4-5 months old Every single one of my Amazon sites were hit.. How did they connect my sites together..? Why were they hit? List of some of my deindexed sites: http://www.inversiontablereviewshq.net/ http://www.breadmachinereviewshq.net/ http://www.ricecookerreviewz.com/ http://www.cooker-reviews.com/ http://www.ab-machine-reviews.net/ They are most definitely not, "thin affiliate sites". They have dozens of reviews, tons of articles, recipes, video.. Each site is like this.. I have started over, fresh content from my writers, fresh theme, fresh everything. But still, I would appreciate an answer as to what I'm doing wrong so that I can learn to not make the same mistake. Thanks!

Can linking out to a weak site harm my sites SEO?
We have an affiliate that wants us to link to his site to help him get started. His website looks okay and is in the same niche as us. However, he has PR 0 and no Page Trust. We could work in a natural looking link in a news article, but there is no way he could be considered any kind of "authority" link. Can linking to his site harm us?

Linking from High Authority Sites
Dear Mozzes, We're running a property portal for real estate classifieds which receives around 300.000 visits monthly. PA 47 DA 37 Mozrank 5,3 MozTrust 5,8 PR 4 Apart from our real estate classifieds we are producing proprietary trends and statistic, a rare commodity in the country we operate. Luckily we are about to enter into a partnership with one of the leading newspaper portals in the Country, appreciating PAs in the 80-90s. In this coming partnership we will provide: 1. Market statistics, which we can imagine as a chart followed by our logo and a "Powered By", which shall link to our site. 2. An in-framed part of our site in their portal where we list properties for sale, that will carry affiliate strings. In order to for us to get the maximum link value of this high authority site, how should we build the integration and linking? We've looked at similar examples here http://realestate.money.cnn.com/ here http://realestate.money.cnn.com/NY/New_York/ or maybe like the Simply Hired logo here: http://money.cnn.com/ Advices here would be super appreciated. Thanks Eric

Two Tier Internet, Bad Blogs and One page Affiliate Sites
Hi, I start a post on a popular internet marketing forum about how bad blogs - (i.e. the ones with one posts of over optimise spun garbage) - and the one page affiliate sites - trying to sell you something... (you know the ones) - were REALLY starting to annoy me and if/when something would be done by ISP's or Anyone really. Obviously google is aware of the issue with trying to push Google Plus to crowd source better search results. But with more and more sites popping up telling people how they can make money from having a niche website/page with adwords on it aren't we fast moving to a two tier internet.... How websites/pages exist purely to game search engines.... and will they ever disappear.... Sorry mini rant..... might even get some ideas for a blog post 😛 (not on a bad blog before anyone says anything)

What are your biggest focuses for Internet Marketing in 2012? New Year's Goal?
We have seen a lot of shifting and movement in the search engines as of late. So I am curious as to what people are setting their sights on for 2012. And perhaps a top 3 would be appreciated. This is Internet Marketing goals, therefore SEO, Social Media, PPC, all count. Link Building? Schema.org? Facebook optimization? And try to be a little more specific like URL rewrites instead of just On-Site SEO.

My new site experienced a sudden drop in Google rankings
We launched a new affiliate site at the beginning of April this year dealing in reviews, vouchers and price comparison for a niche product. We had a pretty good start, with some of our target keywords ranking #8 #10 #7 but this week they have suddenly dropped off dramatically - like 36 or 42 places. We haven't made any changes to the site apart from publishing new content pieces, such as news posts and reviews - does anyone know why this would suddenly happen? Thanks
