Google Keyword tool data + No. 1 Serp rank =/= to taffic on landing page
-
So a keyword we are targeting "painted bedroom furniture" google keyword tool says gets 480 exact local searches (and 880 broad), and in the same local google we have ranked 1st for months (and currently we are 2nd and 3rd too), but looking at the google analytics that landing page has only gotten 78 unique page views from searches and only 21 from "painted bedroom furniture" . (the 2nd link gets 12 page views and the 3rd gets none, from that keyword)
Now for me that does not make sense!
For other keyword which we rank No.1 the keyword data and analytics generally match/make sense. Is there something I'm missing?

Do you use your webmaster tools data? This is where I get content ideas. I see what keywords are already bringing in some data, or ranking somewhere from #5-20 and then I build good content around those keywords.
What some people do is write some "teaser" blog posts to see what attracts attention. So, for example, you could write a blog post about "high sleepers" and see what kind of traffic you get. Then, write one about "loft beds" and see what happens. You may be surprised and find that you are getting searches for something that you didn't optimize for. This is totally made up, but let's say you find that you are getting hits for "high beds". Well, then you may choose to take that term and write a comprehensive article highly targeted for "high beds".
That's what I'd do, but I'm sure there are others who use some tools out there.

I'm definitely ranked no:1 as I use IBP for checking ranks and then I have checked from different computers (different providers, not logged in)
So Google Keyword tool is not any good, then the question is what is a good way to find good related keywords that I'm not currently targeting?
e.g. we sell "High Sleepers" on the site, but according to the Google Keyword tool, people search "loft beds" far more (which is the same thing). Now I don't know if this is true

The Google Keyword Tool data isn't really worth the paper it's printed on for a LOT of search terms.
While I do use it for some things, it's often grossly inflated and the only real data you should use are those from your own analytics (certainly by the time you're in a top position).
That said, are you sure that you're actually ranking 1/2/3 (would seem strange) and that it's not just your personalised search?
-
The keywords tool is usually not very accurate at all. For my main keyword the tool tells me that there are 12000 searches a month. I am #1 for this term and according to webmaster tools I get 4500 impressions per month (which doesn't make sense if there are 12000 searches). Two sets of analytics data tell me that I get just over 1000 hits per month for this term.
I've had other keywords where I worked really hard to get to the #1 spot because the keywords tool gave me hope for thousands of visitors, but none of these have panned out!
One other thought...are you absolutely sure that you are #1 for your term? It could be a personalized search issue. To determine if you are seeing personalized results, do your search and then add &pws=0 to the end of the url and hit enter and see if you are still #1.

Optimizing Webpages for Keywords- Using Text Links to Distribute Internal Page Rank
My Manhattan based commercial real estate firm hired an SEO firm. The company conducted a content audit, created a keyword matrix and suggested optimizing 51 pages for specific keywords. A specific price per page was quoted, which I understand and accept. I was under thought that setting up internal text links to redistribute page rank and thereby improve ranking for competitive terms was included in the price. But this task was not included in their quote. I really want to avoid getting nickeled and dimed to death. Should this cost be included, or legitimately is setting up the internal link structure something that is an additional expense? If this task is legitimately an extra, how labor intensive is it? A lit bit of extra time when re-writing pages or a completely different task that would be quite time consuming? Also, I believe the flow of page rank within a site can have a big effect on ranking, so setting up internal links is critical. Are these assumptions correct? For some background, www.nyc-officespace-leader.com gets 4,500 organic visits per month. Google Page Rank is 2 and the site was hit by Panda in 2012 but has partially recovered. I would really appreciate some insight from the MOZ community. I do not want to pay too much or too little for these services. THANKS, Alan

Question about ranking for long tail keywords
So I am looking at some long tail keywords for my web design company, for example: "website development and design company" The top results are websites that are not optimized for that specific keyword but about "web design & development" in general. The top ranking sites also have quite high PA with lots of links. If I were to create a page specifically about that term would it be fairly easy to rank for since the top ranking pages are not optimized for that keyword?

Ranks moving up & Down for a certain keyword search
Hi, We had lost rankings for certain keywords completely from google's index about 5 months ago. Recently the rank for the keyword reappeared on google. But it keeps moving up and down. One day on 26th position, next day it is on 45th position, then it comes back to 30th position. This has been going on for over a week now. What is the cause of this ? can someone shed some light on it ? Thank you

Ranking Reports for New Keywords
I added new keywords to my campaign. They do appear in my ranking report. But I am not getting any ranking data on the new keywords. It looks like they are yet to be crawled. For my initial set of keywords, i see the specific rankings in each search engine and for some it says "not in the top 50." For the new ones all I see are zeros. Will the ranking data eventually appear?

No idea where to start with keywords
I have a friend who owns an IT business in Pennsylvania. I have been on the adwords tool begging for keywords that people are searching for and I am getting no search results at all. I have tried all types of combinations- IT consultant Pennsylvania IT consultant PA network solutions pennsylvania computer tech pennsylvania ...and many variations thereof. Does this mean that maybe just no one looks for this type of business on google? What would you guys do in this situation? Thanks!

Two for the price of one: Can I rank for multiple keywords when only targeting one keyword?
If I'm optimizing for a specific keyword, is it accurate to assume that by ranking for that specific keyword that I will also be able to rank for similar or root keywords merely by ranking for the original keyword? For example, if I'm targeting 'free online bucket list' is it safe to assume that I will also be able to inadvertently rank for 'online bucket list' or 'free bucket list'? Can I assure clients of this? Or if I'm targeting 'Colorado grocery store' should I also naturally rank for 'grocery store Colorado' and not need to make both of these my targeted keywords?

Not Set Keywords
Hi, we have recently been working on our site's keywords and we have seen an increase in traffic. As I monitor my keywords, I see that the Not Set keyword has increased a great deal and now become my top keyword. I researched some but all I got is that users are bookmarking my page or using other avenues to reach my website. Can anyone give me a more concrete answer? Is this bad? Or is this a direct result of an increase in traffic. Any words of wisdom will be much appreciated, As you were...
