How to associate content on one page to another page
-
Hi all,
I would like associate content on "Page A" with "Page B". The content is not the same, but we want to tell Google it should be associated. Is there an easy way to do this?
-
Yeah, I'm afraid Chris is right. There's really no way to tell Google to index both pages but then not give them control over which one ranks. Google is naturally going to prefer the full content page, because they want to get people to the best "answer", in a sense.
Truthfully, I think it's a better search user experience, in most cases. Internal search users can travel from the snippet to the post, but search users may get frustrated at going from Google's results to your results, and not straight to the resource. If you force the first step on search users, you may actually increase your bounce rate and harm your overall performance.
-
The problem you may have is duplicate content it's kinda trying to have your cake and eat it unfortunately. You could try to manually index the site but it is a bit of a predicament your in. The next option is you wait and both the pages will get indexed eventually or via a sitemap on webmaster tools. As mentioned would have a slight concern for duplicate content.
-
I thought rel=canonical might be the answer, but from my understanding of it, I thought if we put this on the top of Page B, then Google would ignore the content on Page B and just associate any "link juice" etc on Page B with Page A.
[And we really want to make sure the Google indexes the content on Page B. Any ideas?
Am I misunderstanding rel=canonical?](PageA)
-
Sounds like a job for rel=canonical
You can also submit a sitemap to help Google index.
I would be careful not to make it look like cloaking as that can be bad. You could have the snippet with a read more link and put the read more on the robots.
Couple of idea's for you there. Hope they help.

Well it's not 2 sites, it's two pages. So it's a read more page and a full content page. We want Google to index the full content page, so that it's there, but we want our users to go to the page with the "read more" first, before they see that full content page.
So we would like Google to associate the full content page with the read more page, so that the read more page comes up before the full content page.
Thanks!

Can you go a bit more in depth ? IS there a reason why you can't just link the two sites ?

Glossary index and individual pages create duplicate content. How much might this hurt me?
I've got a glossary on my site with an index page for each letter of the alphabet that has a definition. So the M section lists every definition (the whole definition). But each definition also has its own individual page (and we link to those pages internally so the user doesn't have to hunt down the entire M page). So I definitely have duplicate content ... 112 instances (112 terms). Maybe it's not so bad because each definition is just a short paragraph(?) How much does this hurt my potential ranking for each definition? How much does it hurt my site overall? Am I better off making the individual pages no-index? or canonicalizing them?

Fix broken external links on noindex, follow pages no one visits?
Would you take the time to fix external links on your site on pages that are noindex, follow on pages that no one ever visits? The only reason to do it would be to present a tidier site to Google, but would it really care if those pages are noindex/folllow? The thing that makes it a non-trivial amount of work is that there are hundreds of these on a large site. Do you think Google cares, if they're noindex/follow? I know the safe answer is always fix everything, but really it has to get weighed against the likely benefit and other projects with a limited amount of time to work with. Best... Mike

Duplicate Content for Deep Pages
Hey guys, For deep, deep pages on a website, does duplicate content matter? The pages I'm talk about are image pages associated with products and will never rank in Google which doesn't concern me. What I'm interested to know though is whether the duplicate content would have an overall effect on the site as a whole? Thanks in advance Paul

Redirecting one site to another for link juice
I have two sites with same theme - buying cars. I am going remove one of the sites from being crawled permenantly (ie junkthecars.com) and point domian via 301, to another similar theme site (sellthecars.com). The purpose is to simply pass the SEO link juice from one site to the other as we retire junkthecars.com.... Is a forwarding of the domain OK and the best way for the search engines to increase the rank of sellthecars.com (we hate to wast the link work done on Junkthecars.com)? What dangers should I look for that could hurt sellthecars.com if we do the redirect at a simple TLD?

Will Creating a Keyword specific Page to replace the Category Section page cause any harm to my website?
I am running a word press install for my blog and recently had 3 of my main keywords set as categories. I recently decided to create a static page for the keywords instead of having the category page showing all the posts within the category, and took it off the navigation bar. I read about setting the categories to use NO index so the search engines can shine more importance on the new pages i created to really replace where the category was showing. Can this have a negative effect on my rankings? http://junkcarsforcashnjcompany.com junk car removal nj is showing the category section, So i placed the no index on it. Will the search engines refresh the data and replace it with the new page I created?

Are these doorway pages?
I've added category pages for counties/town on http://www.top-10-dating-reviews.com but will google see these as doorway pages? If you click on categories from the menu at the top and view some of the pages you'll hopefully see what I mean? Should I continue building these or delete them? Any advice appreciated.

Getting individual website pages to rank for their targeted terms instead of just the home page
Hi Everyone, There is a pattern which I have noticed when trying to get individual pages to rank for the allocated targeted terms when I execute an SEO campaign and would been keen on anyones thoughts on how they have effectively addressed this. Let me try and explain this by going through an example: Let's say I am a business coach and already have a website where it includes several of my different coaching services. Now for this SEO campaign, I'm looking to improve exposure for the clients "business coaching" services. I have a quick look at analytics and rankings and notice that the website already ranks fairly well for that term but from the home page and not the service page. I go through the usual process of optimising the site (on-page - content, meta data, internal linking) as well as a linkbuilding campaign throughout the next couple of month's, however this results in either just the home page improving or the business page does improve, but the homepage's existing ranking has suffered, therefore not benefiting the site overall. My question: If a term already ranks or receives a decent amount of traffic from the home page and not from the page that its supposed to, why do you think its the case and what would you be your approach to try shift the traffic to the individual page, without impacting the site too much?. Note: To add the home page keyword target term would have been updated? Thanks, Vahe
