Good organic ranking/Poor local ranking
-
Hi,
I am a local retailer with a physical store in a major US City. My website is very well ranked on major keywords related to my business from an organic result perspective (between 1st and 3rd spot).
However, in terms of local results (google place), my website isn't even ranked (except for one specific long tail keyword).
Anybody know why? Thank you so much for your help. This is driving me crazy:-)

A couple of quick ideas to make sure you are ranking locally for SEO:
1. Have you verified ownership of your Google Places Page?
2. Have you added store hours, verified your address, business category, etc?
3. Does your website list your store address on the footer of each page? That can certainly help. I'd also recommend putting it into an RDFa or Microformat tag, so that it's easier for companies to read.
For example, our corporate address is:
Customer Paradigm
5353 Manhattan Circle #103
Boulder, CO 80303
Phone: 303.473.4400Google and other search engines can figure this out, but if you use a v-card type of format, it's easier for them to structure the data more properly.
Here's an example:
Customer Paradigm
5353 Manhattan Circle
Suite 103
Boulder CO, 80303
303.473.4400
4. Make sure you add a few photos onto your Google + page, uploaded by you, the owner. This should help with ranking.
5. Try to get some of your customers (perhaps in a second day email, after a product has arrived) to do a review on your Google+ page. More google reviews, especially with star ratings, will help.
Hope this helps!

Why is this site ranking so good?
Site in question: http://bit.ly/aBvVbm Our main competitor in the UK seems to be ranking extremely good for the keyword "jigsaw puzzles" even though their linking profile doesn't seem all that great? They mainly have site-wide links on 2 of their other ecommerce sites which seem to be given them their ranking power as this equals to 100's of links. Does sitewide links on 2 sites really give this much ranking power or am I missing something?

If I wanted to rank for "red hot widgets" and my domain was redhot.com, would it be better to obtain backlinks (via "red hot widgets" anchor text) pointing to: A) redhot.com (homepage) or B) redhot.com/widgets Many thanks.

New website branding, differences between http://www and http://
Hey Mozers! We will be creating another brand pretty soon with some pretty cool interactive features and before we start development of the site I was wondering if there are any pros/cons to branding the site sans the www. For example http://example123.com and http://www.example123.com. I would much prefer to brand it has http://example123.com but I just wanted to check first to see if that would have any negative SEO ramifications. It seems that it might just be a preference as I looked at Facebook and Twitter and they both do it differently, same with Groupon and LivingSocial. Looking forward to hearing from you guys!
