Yes, both result in the same.
The difference with the first one that I gave is that it tests !^www.mydomain.com for non-inclusion(due to the exclamation mark before the www) of the www.
The condition (RewriteCond) tests the URL following to see if it does not include www. If the condition is true (i.e. is does not include www) then the RewriteRule is applied.
I hope that makes sense.

Thanks Peter! One more question, what's the difference of the code you've mentioned to the following:
RewriteEngine on
RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} ^domain.com [NC]
RewriteRule (.*) http://www.domain.com/$1 [R=301,L]
This is also a rule to force non-www URLs to redirect to URLs with www.
-
Hi, it's not anywhere that I can see.
To rewrite all requests to a non-www page to www you would use something like this:
RewriteEngine on
RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} !^www.mydomain.com
RewriteRule (.*) http://www.mydomain.com/$1 [R=301,L]So where you see mydomain replace it with the prefix of your domain and where you see _.com _replace it with the suffix of your domain.
If using the above, please make sure it is properly tested with your other 301 redirects.

Want to Remove numbers from Old Post URL - Will it effect its Ranking?
Hi. I have a number of posts that are ranking in google for several keywords. However the URLs contain numbers, for example 2011, 2014 and 35. I want to remove these numbers to make the URLs more updated. If I use the 301 redirect for old URL to the new one, will I retain the same ranking for these blogposts Or it can effect the ranking. Does anyone have tried this in the past? I would like to get your opinion on this. Thanks in advance.

Partial Manual penalty to a URL
Hi Mozers, I have a website which has got a partial manual penalty on a specific url. That url is of no use to the website now and is going to be taken off in 3 months time as the website is going to be completely redesigned. Till then I dont wont to live with the partial manual penalty for this url. I have few things in mind to tackle this: 1. take out the url from the website now (as the new redesign will take 3 months) 2. take out internal links pointing to this url in question 3. file for reconsideration with google stating we have taken off the url and have not generated any backlinks and the backlinks are organic. (no backlinking activity has been done on this website or the url) Please let me know if this works or i will have to get the backlinks removed then the disavow then the reconsideration. Looking forward for ur response 🙂

How to resolve - Googlebot found an extremely high number of URLs
Hi, We got this message from Google Webmaster “Googlebot found an extremely high number of URLs on your site”. Competitor using "unatural inbound links" not penalized??!
Since Google's latest updates, I think it would be safe to say that building links is harder. But i also read that Google applies their latest guidelines retro-actively. In other words, if you have built your ilnking profile on a lot of unnatural links, with spammy anchor text, you will get noticed and penalized. In the past, I used to use SEO friendly directories and "suggest URL's" to build back links, with keyword/phrase anchor text. But I thought that this technique was frowned upon by Google these days. So, what is safe to do? Why is Google not penalizing the competitor? And bottom line what is considered to be "unnatural link building" ?

Google Sitemaps & punishment for bad URLS?
Hoping y'all have some input here. This is along story, but I'll boil it down: Site X bought the url of Site Y. 301 redirects were added to direct traffic (and help transfer linkjuice) from urls in Site X to relevant urls in Site Y, but 2 days before a "change of address" notice was submitted in Google Webmaster Tools, an auto-generating sitemap somehow applied urls from Site Y to the sitemap of Site X, so essentially the sitemap contained urls that were not the url of Site X. Is there any documentation out there that Google would punish Site X for having essentially unrelated urls in its sitemap by downgrading organic search rankings because it may view that mistake as black hat (or otherwise evil) tactics? I suspect this because the site continues to rank well organically in Yahoo & Bing, yet is nonexistent on Google suddenly. Thoughts?

Www.oru.edu & oru.edu
Everyplace I check, the pagerank for both of those domains is either 0 or NA. However on this site oru.edu actually has a pagerank and this is the only source I can find for that. The sub www.oru.edu still has a zero on this site. A historical checker has oru.edu a N/A ranking just a few days ago and in June.
