Understanding Onsite Elements and Moz's Onpage Grader
-
I'm currently helping a friend with his website. One of the pages I am targeting for his business is: http://stalbansdentist.com.au/dentist-cairnlea/
The main keyword this page is targeting will be "dentist cairnlea" (Cairnlea is a suburb near Melbourne, Australia)
To perfect onsite optimization, I've used the Moz Onpage Grader. Generally, its straightforward, but I have encountered some issues...
- Appropriate Use of Rel Canonical
The page does have the following tag: <link rel="<a class="attribute-value">canonical</a>" href="http://stalbansdentist.com.au/dentist-cairnlea/" />. I thought this would suffice. What exactly do I need to do to fix this critical problem?
- Appropriate Characters in the URL
I don't understand this one. The URL has completely appropriate characters. Why does Moz Onpage Grader insist that URLs here need to be appropriated?
- No More Than One H1 Tag
There appears to be only one H1 tag on this page. Is Moz just wrong on this one or perhaps a little delayed? There were 2 H1 tags before one was deleted and a recheck done with this problem remaining on Moz's onsite check.
Any assistance here on these 3 points and just understanding the Moz Onpage grader would be appreciated!

Thanks heaps Dan, really appreciate it!
Made most of the fixes you've prescribed and will do the others. Content is unique on each page, however thin and lacking substantive value... certainly requires some more work. The Onpage Grader also eventually seems to have caught up and no longer displays non-problems as problems as it did initially. Looks like I just needed to give it some time upon making a remedy.
A few quick questions if I could trouble you to answer them. You've been extremely helpful already though and gone well above your call of duty so don't worry if you're too busy.

What do you think is the best way to approach a location-based campaign that targets different localities? Is it a good idea to create a different location page for each location targeted?
-
You've suggested to make the title tag - Dental Care in Cairnlea - Family Dental Care. However, how detrimental would that be for targeted keywords like "Orthodontist Cairnlea" or "Fillings Cairnlea" if it were to be targeted on that page? Is Google smart enough to know that Dental care covers the wide array of dental services like fillings braces, orthodontist etc. and so a broad descriptive title tag is most effective? Specific targeted keywords like "Orthodonist Cairnlea" are then considered highly related or a subset and therefore, are not extensively affected, so long as the keyword (eg Orthodonist Cairnlea) is appropriately prevalent in body content?
-
Do you think the Moz Onpage Grader places too much value on keywords appearing a number of times in body content, when some thought leaders claim that Google is moving away from this as a key metric?
Just answer if you have the time.
Thanks abundantly.

Hey There
I would probably focus on "bigger things" - for example
Unless these pages are all super unique/add value aside from just having different town names, it's not the best practice to have thin/overlapping content;
- http://stalbansdentist.com.au/dentist-st-albans
- http://stalbansdentist.com.au/dentist-burnside
- http://stalbansdentist.com.au/dentist-cairnlea
- ...etc
Also, when crawling the site I found example placeholder content like;
- http://stalbansdentist.com.au/a-monk-walks-his-path/
- http://stalbansdentist.com.au/a-stylish-stud/
- http://stalbansdentist.com.au/hip-young-woman/
- ...etc
You may want to delete those
Onto the questions;
- I'm not sure what Moz is seeing wrong with the canonical, it looks good.
- This one seems fine to me as well.
- There are 2 H1's currently - see this --> http://screencast.com/t/qRBG5jbW3EYx
Also, the titles are a little long / keyword stuffed;
Dentist Cairnlea, Dental Care, Braces Fillings, Orthodontist Dentistry | Family Dental Care
Maybe make that something like;
Dental Care in Cairnlea - Family Dental Care
-
-
You`ve done everything right - as you can see there is a green hook next to that issue and if you "mouse-over" the little "i" next to contributing factor then you can read that you only need to take care of unchecked items...

here is something to do in case there is nothing wrong from the point of the report of the on-page grader... I have to take a closer look on that

How does a non-traditional TLD impact Moz's crawl test?
I have a client who moved from a .com to .academy domain 6 months ago, and their current crawl tests are coming back with a universal page authority of 1, along with 0 indexed backlinks. The previous version of the site had an average page authority of 35-40, the site architecture and content are nearly identical, and there are no other errors or red flags in the crawl report that would hold back their organic rankings. In fact, looking at the site's analytics account, I can see dozens of sites that provide current and properly functioning backlinks, non of which are listed on the crawl test. So the question is - is Moz currently unable to properly crawl a .academy (or any other non-traditional TLD) site, or is there some deeper issue with the site's SEO that I'm not seeing? Thanks!

What's the best way to track broad search terms?
I'm finding out that Moz only tracks exact match results for key terms. Does anyone know of a good tool for tracking broad search terms? So for example: keyword1 keyword2 keyword3 as opposed to "keyword1 keyword2 keyword3"? Any help is appreciated!

Why RogerBot can't crawl site https://unplag.com
Hello Please help me to solve the problem. The on-page grader and Crawl Test are not working for Unplag.com website. Both said that they can't access the url. Yes, I've tried different variants like unplag.com, http://unplag.com One more thing - RogerBot was disallowed in robots.txt file. I deleted it from the file a week ago so maybe moz index haven't been renewed.

Has using Moz got me banned from Google search?
Dear fellow Mozzers, For the last couple of weeks when ever I do a google search I have to enter a captcha code. Now I hardly use google anymore which is annoying ! Then I went onto support.google.com and saw this: https://support.google.com/websearch/answer/86640?hl=en&ref_topic=3378866 "Automated traffic includes: Sending searches from a robot, computer program, automated service, or search scraper Using software that sends searches to Google to see how a website or webpage ranks on Google" Is Moz alone doing this? Thanks in advance for your response. Ash

Crawl Diagnostics: Exlude known errors and others that have been detected by mistake? New moz analytics feature?
I'm curious if the new moz analytics will have the feature (filter) to exclude known errors from the crwal diagnostics. For example, the attached screenshot shows the URL as 404 Error, but it works fine: http://en.steag.com.br/references/owners-engineering-services-gas-treatment-ogx.php To maintain a better overview which errors can't be solved (so I just would like to mark them as "don't take this URL into account...") I will not try to fix them again next time. On the other hand I have hundreds of errors generated by forums or by the cms that I can not resolve on my own. Also these kind of crawl errors I would like to filter away and categorize like "errors to see later with a specialist". Will this come with the new moz analytics? Anyway is there a list that shows which new features will still be implemented? knPGBZA.png?1

Blocked Production Site from Search Engines - How to get it Crawled by Moz Crawler
I have an 'under development' site hosted, (which is an exact replica of live site as working on to add new functionalities & modules) - but its password protected, excluded from robots.txt (Disallow) & also marked noindex on all pages in the index - so that Googlebot & other Search Engines can not crawl the site At present the development work is almost 95% completed., Now - feel like to crawl the site through SEOMOZ Roger Bot - to know the errors and all indexed urls by Rogerbot. What's the best way to get Moz Bot crawl the site - but simultaneously continue it blocking its access to Search Engines I have gone through - https://support.google.com/webmasters/answer/93708?hl=en, it says a) Save it in a password-protected directory. Googlebot and other spiders won't be able to access the content- But this way Moz will also not be able to crawl the site b) Use a robots.txt to control access to files and directories on your server - However it also says - It's important to note that even if you use a robots.txt file to block spiders from crawling content on your site, Google could discover it in other ways and add it to our index. c) Use a noindex meta tag to prevent content from appearing in our search results - It also says that a link to the page can still appear in their search results. Because we have to crawl your page in order to see the noindex tag, there's a small chance that Googlebot won't see and respect the noindex meta tag Password Protected thus seems the best way to continue blocking. However, continuing with it will also block Moz bot to crawl the site. Any suggestions Thanks
