How to setup Google Analytic goals that go to different urls?
-
I would like to setup my form's conversion rate as a goal in my Google Analytics account. The goal is complete when someone enters their information and hits submit. Logically, the "Thank you page" would be the destination url for the goal. My problem is that the thank you page is outside of the primary domain, for example, my site is:
SiteExampl.com but the Thank you URL is thankyouurl.com
Is it possible to setup a goal like this? If so how.
Thanks in advance!

Virtual pageviews is in fact the way to go with this. With a virtual pageview setup, your form tag would look something like this:
<form action="x.something" onsubmit="_gaq.push(['_trackPageview', '/submitted-form/']);">
That way, when the form is submitted, it will track a pageview of '/submitted-form/'. You can then create your goal looking for pageviews of that URL.
The main potential obstacle with this approach is form validation. If your form uses JavaScript for validation, then you need to integrate the virtual pageview code into the validation code, which can get complicated. If your form uses server side validation, this method also isn't great - because if the user submits the form and it returns an error, the virtual pageview will still be triggered, incorrectly converting the goal.
</form>

I've read the "Virtual Pageviews" but am still having some trouble understanding. I have the code form embedded on the site, so where would I add the Async Snippet? Thanks

If I don't have access to the thank you url to add the form code what is the best solution?
-
Hi Christina,
There are multiple options to go with in this case, the first would be to also add the tracking code to the thank your URL page, then you could link to that page with some extra data to make sure cross domain tracking works. This would probably be the easiest solution.
Besides that if you're lucky the form only redirects to the new URL is successful, what you then could do is before you redirect fire an extra virtual pageview to track a successful request and check it from within your domain. See here for more information on 'virtual' pageviews.
Let me know if you have any more questions on this.

Google Analytics - Organic Search Traffic & Queries -What caused the huge difference?
Our website traffic dropped a little bit during the last month, but it's getting better now, almost the same with previous period. But our conversion rate dropped by 50% for the last three weeks. What could cause this huge drop in conversion rate? In Google Analytics, I compared the Organic Search Traffic with previous period, the result is similar. But the Search Engine Optimization ->Queries shows that the clicks for last month is almost zero. What could be the cause of this huge differnce? e9sJNwD.png k4M8Fa5.png

Behavior Flow vs. All Pages report in Google Analytics
In the interest of determining why our ecommerce site isn't converting, I've been spending some quality time with GA. I've suspected that our front page is part of the problem, especially where our organic traffic is concerned (we get a good deal of referral traffic from a link on an OEM's site). According to the Behavior Flow report under the Behavior section of GA, organic traffic to our home page is hemorrhaging (roughly 60% bounce rate). But when I went to the All Pages report (Behavior > Site Content > All Pages) and looked at organic traffic to our home page, then looked at the Medium as a secondary dimension, I'm getting a bounce rate of 35%. Why the massive discrepancy? Can somebody assist?

Referral Traffic vs. Campaign Traffic in Google Analytics
I have two sites: a blog and an ecommerce site. The blog funnels people to the ecommerce site. In Analytics I'm seeing declines in referral traffic from the blog to the ecommerce site. During the same time I'm seeing an increase in campaign traffic to the ecommerce site, with most campaign traffic coming from the blog. I believe the increase in campaign traffic is largely a result of simply having installed more tracking links. This leads me to believe that the declines I'm seeing in referral traffic is simply a result of the increase in campaign traffic. In other words, what was once counted and reported as being referral traffic is now being counted and reported as campaign traffic. So my question is this: In Google Analytics is campaign traffic ALSO reported as referral traffic, or is campaign traffic reported separately and not duplicated in referral traffic reports? I'll provide a concrete example to make this more clear in case it isn't: Say site X sends 1000 visits each month to site Y. Say 50 of those visits come from a single link on X. If that link is changed so that campaign Z data info added (via the Google URL Builder), would you expect to then see 950 referral visits each month from site X to site Y plus 50 campaign visits to site Y via new campaign Z, or would you continue to see 1000 referral visits plus the new 50 campaign visits? Many thanks in advance to anyone that can shed some light on this.

Goals in analytics
How do you establish which keywords generated traffic that resulted in goal completions (in GA) ? I thought this would be Reverse Goal Paths but this only goes back as far as the original page. Goal Flow shows the traffic source which is better but not the kw used ? Cheers Dan

Best practices to track blog.mydomain.com in Google Analytics?
What is the best practice in Google Analytics? Tracking blog.mydomain.com + mydomain.com under the same profile? Or creating separate profiles for each blog.mydomain.com and mydomain.com? Thanks!
