ECommerce .com or .co.uk
-
I'm in the process of putting together an eCommerce site selling greetings cards.
I would like to sell the cards to both the US and UK markets. I also want to have the best chance of ranking well in the US and UK SERPs.
Should I build 2 sites using the same products/content on a .com and .co.uk domain (dup content issues?), or should I have one site with the ability to checkout in either currency?
Any thoughts / guidance would be very much appreciated.
Thanks.

+1 what Keri and Andriy have said. I would only add that you can still buy additional domains and redirect them to your core site.
e.g. your single site sits on site.com. If you wanted to "glocalise" your appeal then you could promote site.co.uk in the UK in advertising campaigns and have it 301 redirect to site.com. This would protect your brand, and also gives you the opportunity to localise the experience on site.com if they were referred via site.co.uk, and configure things like setting correct local currency. It really depends on how important having a local appeal is to your client.

Up to me your exact case demands one single site. There is no use to write the same content on two sites. It is better to use one .com site with possibility to chose two currencies. But you can buy uk domain too and have a possibility for future development of something personalised for Uk market but remember to post there only unique content.

I'd opt for the single site, both of the duplicate content issues and for your sanity. You'll have one site to maintain instead of two, one site to build links to, only one entry instead of two if something changes for a card, one place to make price changes, etc.

What domain name do you think is better for SEO: sirocco-webdesign.com or sirocco-web-design.com?
Hello, I would appreciate it very much if you share with me your thoughts on what domain name I'd better pick out in terms of productive SEO: sirocco-webdesign.com or sirocco-web-design.com? I know hyphens are not good, but second domain looks better, I think.

Good alternatives to Xenu's Link Sleuth and AuditMyPc.com Sitemap Generator
I am working on scraping title tags from websites with 1-5 million pages. Xenu's Link Sleuth seems to be the best option for this, at this point. Sitemap Generator from AuditMyPc.com seems to be working too, but it starts handing up, when a sitemap file, the tools is working on,becomes too large. So basically, the second one looks like it wont be good for websites of this size. I know that Scrapebox can scrape title tags from list of url, but this is not needed, since this comes with both of the above mentioned tools. I know about DeepCrawl.com also, but this one is paid, and it would be very expensive with this amount of pages and websites too (5 million ulrs is $1750 per month, I could get a better deal on multiple websites, but this obvioulsy does not make sense to me, it needs to be free, more or less). Seo Spider from Screaming Frog is not good for large websites. So, in general, what is the best way to work on something like this, also time efficient. Are there any other options for this? Thanks.

Changing from ocpatentlawyer.com to www.ocpatentlawyer.com
I want to change my web address from ocpatentlawyer.com to www.ocpatentlawyer.com. My understanding is that google treats these two web addresses as different web addresses. My blog is a pr 5 website. I don't want to make the switch and find out that google no longer ranks my pages and posts anymore.

Your opinions re nSphere.net and Bloomreach.com
What nSphere does is they create pages on a subdomain of your existing domain local.example.com they create static pages (product listing) targeting specific searches of specific locations. local.example.com/air-jordans-in-san-francisco-california.htm

local.example.com/nokia-lumia-products-in-chicago-illinois.htm
etc. What Bloomreach does is they create static pages (product listing) on a subfolder of your existing domain example.com/th/nokia-lumia.htm
example.com/th/white-samsung-galaxy-s3.htm
etc. basically they create pages that they think is similar to what the site is offering. Do you think the pages created by them will cause our site to be penalized in the long run for having too many thin static pages? From my undestanding Google Panda penalizes poor quality pages and I appreciate your opinion guys if what their doing will eventually do harm to our site. Maybe there are members here who have actually used their service who can testify if bloomreach or sphere is worth the investment/risk. Thanks!0 -

Redirecting one ecommerce site to another
Hi I'm planning to redirect one large ecommerce site to another. Here's how I was thinking of doing it: crawl both sites with Xenu and export urls to a CSV match urls where possible, redirecting pages from site A to relevant ones in site B all others will be redirected to site B's home page Now, I'm dealing with thousands of URLs here, so any way to make it easier would be great. Could this mean just redirecting all of Site A's pages to Site B's homepage would be worth it? Or does redirecting relevant pages where possible seem the best idea? Thanks guys!
