222.mydomain.com... I'm stumped....
-
Hi,
I'm stumped by this one and am hoping I can get some advice/guidance. I've seen this pop up in my stats where the www.mydomain.com/page is appearing as 222.mydomain.com/page.
I have no clue what's going on...
This google return displays the same page 2 ways (see first image).
And when I click on the 222. link I get a prompt (see 2nd image).
Any idea what's going on?
Thanks!
Peter

Ah, I'm happy to report a resolution to the issue... so it turns out that it came down to the fact that the dns wildcard setting was turned on. Disabling it resolved the mystery.
Thanks for your help!

Ryan,
I just noted the IP # as well and pinged my hosting company to see if something odd occurred on their end.
I'll check the htacess file next.
Thanks for the terrific advice. I really appreciate your help!

Well, let me put on my detective hat. Here is what we know:
-
the page exists. I can navigate to 222.admissionsquest.com.
-
the page has the same IP address as your www. page, so the are hosted on the same web server.
-
the pages appear to be identical. I didn't do a 100% analysis here, but the pages appear to be the same, and they both have exactly 356 links on them.
The next step is checking your htaccess file and looking for any reference to this site. I would also such doing a search on your web server for "222".

Ryan, thanks for the tip. I checked and couldn't find a "222" folder in the root directory. Any other ideas?
-
Check your web server. It looks like you have a "222" folder located in your root directory. That would cause exactly this behavior. This would be the most likely cause.

My GA code is on my site but Google Analytics isn't being pulled into SEOMoz...why?
The CEO wants me to present an SEO plan next week for three of our sites; however, I got this message when I went to campaign overview tab: "It appears there's a problem with our connection to your Google Analytics account. Please go to your Settings page to update your connection." I double-checked the GA code and it's the same on both our site and in SEOMoz...what gives? I clicked on Choose Your GA Profile->Set GA Account and Profile then got this warning: "Are you sure you want to change your Google Analytics connection? Changing your connection will reset our cache of your historical GA traffic data." I need this data pronto so I can set strategy for three sites; any help would be greatly appreciated! Darrell

What's the final word on Image Search tracking in Google Analytics?
Sorry if this has been answered but I can't seem to get a straight answer to my questions by searching around. How is traffic referred by Google Images counted in Google Analytics? I know it used to be referral traffic from google.com/imgres. A lot of things I have read say that it should all be under google/organic now, but my site still gets referral traffic from google.com/imgres, so that can't be. However I also get traffic as google/organic that I am pretty sure is from image search, because we don't rank for the keyword normally, but we do for image search. What's the deal? How is traffic from an embedded image in a regular result page counted? How can I segment my image search traffic better? It would be great to see image search traffic as it's own medium. I found a script here -- http://jrom.net/google-images-in-google-analytics -- that looks promising, has anyone used it or can recommend another way? I haven't used the GA API very much so I want to make sure the script is kosher and won't screw up my numbers.

Should I delete a page that gets search traffic, that I don't care about?
I have a page on my site that consistently gets traffic, every month. Googlers seems to love it. But I don't like it at all. Webmaster tools shows that google allows us a certain number of search impressions each day. - it flatlines, they are limiting the impressions we get. We also getthe same number of clickthroughs each day. So my question is for anyone who has this same experience, who may have experimented by deleting a page you don't care about. Did you just lose that number of clicks each day or did other pages on your site get displayed and clicked through instead?

Meta Robots Tag - What's it really mean?
I used on a handful of pages recently and noticed that they're still popping up in the Google search index. I'd like to keep these from appearing, so I figured I needed a directive statement with stronger semantic meaning. From what I understand, is what I'm looking for. Using this will keep Google from not only crawling the page, but indexing the page, as well. I decided to see what the official robotstxt.org website said about it, so I checked (link here): the NOFOLLOW directive only applies to links on this page. It's entirely likely that a robot might find the same links on some other page without a NOFOLLOW (perhaps on some other site), and so still arrives at your undesired page. So, is their explanation saying that the page itself will be indexed, but the content / links on it won't be followed / indexed? Let me hear your thoughts, mozzers.
