Can You Suggest 3 Books to Help Me with My 2014 Seth Godin Pick 3 Project?
-
Yesterday in Seth's blog he gave a wonderful suggestion for making 2014 a remarkable year. He suggested that you pick 3 people who have influence over your life/work and select three books to buy and give to these them to have them read, and then, discuss with you. Here's how he describes it:
"Identify three books that challenge your status quo, business books that outline a new attitude/approach or strategy, or perhaps fiction or non-fiction that challenges you. Books you've read that you need them to read.
Buy the three books for each of the three people, and ask them each to read all three over the holiday break." - http://sethgodin.typepad.com/seths_blog/2013/12/pick-three.html
Don't worry about whether or not I've read the books you are suggesting. If I choose one, I'll read it first before asking someone else to read it.
Here are some of my ideas:
The End of Business as Usual - Brian Solis [currently reading]
Don't Make Me Think - Steve Krug
The New Rules of Marketing and PR - David Meerman Scott
Positioning - The Battle for Your Mind - Ries and Trout
Influence - Robert Cialdini
Engage - Brian Solis
The Dip - Seth Godin
Keep It Simple - Siegel & Etzkorn
Buy - Ology - Lindstrom
The Long Tail - Chris Anderson
FYI - The three people I've identified to share books with are my CEO (to whom I directly report), our Marketing Director (who is a peer, but who controls most of the marketing budget), and the Vice President of Retail Sales (He is also one of 5 co-owners of the business and a major stakeholder).
The books you suggest can be the same for all three or different for all three. I think the major challenges we are facing in 2014 is agility, branding and redefining or abandoning old business practices that are costly, time wasters, inefficient, or all of the above.
Thanks everyone!

Thanks Alex. Wil Reynolds actually gave me a copy of Influence at MozCon this past summer and I found it completely fascinating. I read it twice. I think that one's a definite keeper. Don't Make me Think is a very amusing, smart, astute, relevant, fast and easy read, which makes it a good choice for busy people who still want to learn something. You've got me curious about Out of the Ordinary so I'm going to hop over to Amazon and check it out. I'll let you know how it all shakes out!

I was going to suggest Influence, and Don't Make Me Think is a good one, so that makes me think I should read the rest of your suggestions. I've just been dipping into Out of the Ordinary by Jon Ronson and it seems quite interesting. I didn't even buy it for myself but it looks like I might end up reading it!

Help regarding Backlinks DA
Hey I'm doing web optimization of my site Best Blender under $100 My inquiry is with respect to Backlinks. There are 2 things which can be seen in MOZ announcing 1. DA(Domain Authority) 2.Spam Score Presently how might I choose from which site would it be advisable for me to get Backlinks? From higher DA and Low Spam Score or Higher DA and High Spam Score? Does Spam Score will affect my Rankings or not? Also, my last inquiry is what number of Backlinks would it be advisable for me to make on everyday schedule? Respects,

CRO help how to convert already existing customers on limited budget
Hi guys! We are a start up and just launched our website in December. We are having issues with our website not converting and we have identified a few possibilities of why it may not be converting after an extensive competition analysis. Therefore, due to our limited budget we have had to cut our adwords campaign and now have 1 shot at fixing the conversion rate optimization by changing the registration process and also our offer from "FREE" to discounted rates eg: $1 per min for all new customers instead which will also work in with the way our system is configured as we have a deposit funds method. Our current offer stands at 3 FREE mins on all chat sessions, however this can not be claimed unless the client deposit is min $20 - now I realize why our competitors would use the discounted rates instead of the FREE minutes. Other competitors can achieve this as they don't require the customer to deposit any amount as they just deduct the account after the 3 minutes is up from the credit card. After running 1 months of adwords on a limited budget (i know its not long enough to test) we gathered around 24 sign ups, 3 of which entered credit card details but no deposits, and the rest who signed up only got to our 2 step registration. In this case we are working our way on changing the registration process and changing the offer. Can anyone provide any expertise or recommendations about what they think may work? Our website is www.zenory.com Thanks and I look forward to your responses.

Any thoughts on Penguin 3.0?
Ok ok, so it's just a data refresh and not a major - but does anyone has some additional insight now that the data has been refreshed? Any thoughts about the winners and losers in this one?

How can you change 'Google related searches'?
I am having problems for a few clients where google is suggesting negative related searches. I have had success getting Google suggestion (auto-complete) to suggest the keywords we want to be associated with the brand but the 'Searches Related to....' at the bottom of the search page is a big problem. Many of the terms are negative of sometimes defamatory and have absolutely not relevance to the brand. Even upon clicking on the related searches the pages Google displays are about other businesses. Can anyone suggest how to teach Google these term are irrelevant or any other suggestions as to how to remove them?

Help ranking for a keyword
So I found a keyword that is labeled as "Low Competive" on Google Adwords. About a week and a half ago I optimized the page using the SEOMOZ On-Page optimization tool. It says that I am 100% with everything. My website is new but it has been around for about a year. I haven't gotten into linking and the more in depth SEO. After doing some searches though I noticed a lot of other new website that are atleast ranking in the top 50 for certain keywords, so I figured I could get my page to rank atleast in the top 1000 for this "Low Competitive" keyword. Could someone take a look and see if maybe I over optimized it or did something that would make this keyword not rank even in the top 1000 on google? Any advise is appreciated. I am obviously very new to SEO, but I am someone that likes to do and learn everything for myself. Thanks in advance! The keyword is: Nitro Monster Truck The web page is: http://www.rcnitroshop.com/nitro-monster-truck
