Can Google penalize a country keyword
-
Hello again guys
Thank you for your previous help with www.kids-academy.co.uk - we are slowly getting there! I wanted to ask something I cannot seem to find an answer to, can Google penalize you by country? By this I mean;
Search term
Nursery franchise UAE Page 1
Nursery franchise UK Nowhere to be found! The page in question (well a section of the site) has been optimised for UK, however, as they do have a sister site in the UAE, it mentions those areas too. The pages I have been working on are now ranking reasonably well to say there is a long way to go, but for long tailed keywords NOT including anything to do with the UK.
There are no naughty backlinks with the anchor text to do with the UK, the server is hosted in the UK, it is a .co.uk URL (no geotagging but I would like to know if this is of any use with this type of URL, everything says no, but it cant harm can it?) - is it possible Google due to bad practices in the past have slapped a penalty on the specific keyword area?
Not something I have come across previously but I am scratching my head over here! Time for a brew break
Thanks in advance guys!

Welcome Leanne!
Try to remove manually and disavow which you could't remove! This certainly takes time. Even after removal and disavow, it will take some time to get things going!
Try local UK Links. Starting with Top UK directories like Yell, Yelp & others, you can move to few guest posts possibly! No Money Anchor Text Just a reminder!
Social Media is going to help in big time! Use Hash tags to get real time shares & like of pages!
Ok with content but try to make it more frequent!

Thanks for that! Very detailed and much appreciated.
Manual link removal began last month with little luck (no replies / email bounce backs) disavow was issued at the same time but who knows when that would happen! I know the links are a major issue but it is very much a waiting game.
Good thinking about the UK links, they have spent a lot of time developing the UAE but I am taking the linking strategy slow due to the issues.
Social media is also underway, we have just started the UAE campaign and will be on to the UK next week so, hopefully see some movement there too soon.
There is also a blog on the UK site which is updated usually twice a week, but I feel there are cross issues with that too which I will be looking into. But the fresh content is there weekly.
Nursery franchise UAE was in reference to the .co.uk site which within Google.co.uk is page 1, not for the .ae site which is why I wondered about the initial question.
Seems we are doing all we can so far!

Nope, that wouldn't cause a blanket penalty on the term. Just didn't have the time that ImWaqas had to go over things in-depth but wanted to at least point that out since I had the chance. Take a look at all the things ImWaqas stated to help fix your major site issues.

Hey Leanne,
If I understand it, you are pointing to http://www.kids-academy.co.uk and trying to compare it with http://www.kids-academy.ae/.
l have reviewed both. It's not about keyword rather general or country one, rankings depend upon many factors (On Page, Link Building, Social Quotient etc)
Let's try to compare both websites
- 202 Pages (Content Seems to be unique, so no real worries here)
- Meta Tags Seems to be fine
- Overall back-links have been dropped to 12k to 1.3k within 1 year. Seems to be point of worry: http://screencast.com/t/zVG9PiMtxGA
- More than 60% Money Anchors. Lots of worries here:http://screencast.com/t/ck0kx9OK
- Global V/s Local: If its UK site, i love to see more than 50% UK Links, but this website hardly have any: http://screencast.com/t/b3fuPbjYT
- 90% Links on Home Page. Its better to have 50% Home + 50% Inner Pages
- Hardly any social sharing which is king at moment
- 50 Pages (No Content Issues)
- Meta Tags seems to be fine
- 4k to 1.7k: http://screencast.com/t/RTLk8i1yK
- More than 50% Money anchors. Situation is bad here as well: http://screencast.com/t/OiNVVXXW
- 90% Home Page Links
- No Social Sharing
Comments On UK Site
- It's clear victim of Penguin 2/2.1. No sure around Penguin 1. You need to check Webmaster Tools
- More Than 50% Money Anchors, No Local Links and others are clear signs
- Plz remove money anchors either manually or use disavow link tool
- Focus on Social Sharing (Google PLus, Facebook, Twitter)
- Build UK Links
- Add a blog and keep on adding new content consistently
- This will take time to recover
Comments on AE Site
- It seems to be tanked as well. It must be ranking page 1 but now mostly ranking Page 2, 3 or more
- Ranking page 1 as Google Place for some keywords
- Above Practices should be done here as well
- And its ranking Page 2 not 1 for Nursery franchise UAE on both google.com & google.ae
You need to work harder on both sites to make them recover real time. Feel free to ask if any question!
Happy New Year!
Regards

Oh thank you for that! I had instructed for code errors to be rectified but this one seems to have slipped the net with them. I will assume however this would not cause the blanket ban on the word UK though should it?
Thanks again Mike

One oddity I did notice, you have <meta property="<a class="attribute-value">og:locale</a>" content="<a class="attribute-value">en_US</a>" /> listed in the page source which i believe should be en_GB for a UK specific website.

Best place to employ "branded" related keywords to gain SEO benefits and rank for "non branded" keywords?
Hi all, I want to put this question straight with an example rather than confusing with a scenario. If there is company called "vertigo", a tiles manufacturer. There are many search queries with thousands of searches like "vertigo tiles life", "vertigo tiles for garden", "vertigo tiles dealers", "vertigo tiles for kitchen", etc....These kind of pages will eventually have tendency to rank for non-branded keywords like "tiles for garden", "tiles for kitchen", etc. So where to employ these kind of help/info pages? Main website or sub-domain? Is it Okay to have these pages on sub-domain and traffic getting diverted to sub domain? What if the same pages are on main website? Will main website have ranking improvement for non branded keywords because of employing the landing pages with related topics? Thanks

Why Google changed our page-title suddenly which has been same for years
Hi all, I know Google shows a different page titles. Happens when over optimised or when we copied competitors page title. But we did neither. Suddenly Google changed our homepage page title in search results. Our page title suffix "brand name" has been moved to beginning. Our page title is still for years.

Very strange, inconsistent and unpredictable Google ranking
I have been searching through these forums and haven't come across someone that faces the same issue I am. The folks on the Google forums are certain this is an algorithm issue, but I just can't see the logic in that because this appears to be an issue fairly unique to me. I'll take you through what I've gone through. Sorry for it being long. Website URL: https://fenixbazaar.com 1. In early February, I made the switch to https with some small hiccups. Overall however the move was smooth, had redirects all in place, sitemap, indexing was all fine. 2. One night, my organic traffic dropped by almost 100%. All of my top-ranking articles completely disappeared from rank. Top keyword searches were no longer yielding my best performing articles on the front page of results, nor on the last page of results. My pages were still being indexed, but keyword searches weren't delivering my pages in results. I went from 70-100 active users to 0. 3. The next morning, everything was fine. Traffic back up. Top keywords yielding results for my site on the front page. All was back to normal. Traffic shot up. Only problem was the same issue happened that night, and again for the next three nights. Up and down. 4. I had a developer and SEO guy look into my backend to make sure everything was okay. He said there were some redirection issues but nothing that would cause such a significant drop. No errors in Search Console. No warnings. 5. Eventually, the issue stopped and my traffic improved back to where it was. Then everything went great: the site was accepted into Google News, I installed AMP pages perfectly and my traffic boomed for almost 2 weeks. 6. At this point numerous issues with my host provider, price increases, and incredibly outdated cpanel forced me to change hosts. I did without any issues, although I lost a number of articles albeit low-traffic ones in the move. These now deliver 404s and are no longer indexed in the sitemap. 7. After the move there were a number of AMP errors, which I resolved and now I sit at 0 errors. Perfect...or so it seems. 8. Last week I applied for hsts preload and am awaiting submission. My site was in working order and appeared set to get submitted. I applied after I changed hosts. 9. The past 5 days or so has seen good traffic, fantastic traffic to my AMP pages, great Google News tracking, linking from high-authority sites. Good performance all round. 10. I wake up this morning to find 0 active people on my site. I do a Google search and notice my site isn't even the first result whenever I do an actual search for my name. The site doesn't even rank for its own name! My site is still indexed but search results do not yield results for my actual sites. Check Search Console and realised the sitemap had been "processed" yesterday with most pages indexed, which is weird because it was submitted and processed about a week earlier. I resubmitted the sitemap and it appears to have been processed and approved immediately. No changes to search results. 11. All top-ranking content that previously placed in carousal or "Top Stories" in Google News have gone. Top-ranking keywords no longer bring back results with my site: I went through the top 10 ranking keywords for my site, my pages don't appear anywhere in the results, going as far back as page 20 (last page). The pages are still indexed when I check, but simply don't appear in search results. It's happening all over again! Is this an issue any of you have heard of before? Where a site is still being indexed, but has been completely removed from search results, only to return within a few hours? Up and down? I suspect it may be a technical issue, first with the move to https, and now with changing hosts. The fact the sitemap says processed yesterday, suggests maybe it updated and removed the 404s (there were maybe 10), and now Google is attempting to reindexed? Could this be viable? The reason I am skeptical of it being an algorithm issue is because within a matter of hours my articles are ranking again for certain keywords. And this issue has only happened after a change to the site has been applied. Any feedback would be greatly appreciated 🙂

Input on Experiment with Google
As I'm doing more research into Google's devaluing links, I can do nothing more but to wonder if we will be penalized for previous links (bad links). Here is the situation: Our company was ranking very well for this particular keyword (within the top 3 positions on Google). However, in the last 6 months, we have seen rankings drop significantly (now to the point Google doesn't even recognize the existence of the page). With Google not recognizing us, we decided to do an experiment. The experiment: Make another page with a different URL and delete the existing page that is not ranking in Google. Our Experience: We have noticed that our pages will get indexed and ranked within weeks or making a new page. Our Goal: To get ranked on Google Will our new page get penalized from the old page if it's an entirely new URL? Will the fact that Google in devaluing our links effect our new page that we are trying to get ranked? Any insight would be of great value. Thanks in advance

Are Keywords Dying?
I'm freelancing in SEO work, looking to make it a full time career, and as a result I'm juggling the prospect of having to pick and choose what area I spend most of my time on when working on client sites. My background is in writing so I always lean towards creating content and engaging people via social media. But the standard is also to optimize page titles and - at a deeper level - descriptions for each page. For larger sites, especially e-commerce with many product pages, this is a daunting task. Is it worth it or is the better strategy to focus the limited time available to content creation? Will page titles, etc. eventually become obsolete anyway?

Google dance/over optimized/paranoid?
Hi guys, hope your all OK and thanks in advance for taking a nosey at this. OK where to start - my rankings for the last 12 months have progressively improved every week, usually of the 300 KWs i track the last few months has seen approx 70 up/70down per week, but the improvements usually outweigh the declines. This week I saw a sudden drop though - 35 improvements and 112 declines. The strange thing was though, the improvements came on the more competitive KWs, and the less competitive words I haven't done much or any back linking for dropped. Seems silly me asking this question when I run that through my head ofcouse KWs you don;t work on will drop like flies? It should be plainly obvious those words would drop off but all have been improving on there own slowly over the last 6/7 months. Now if this was a penalty (nothing showing in webmaster tools) I would have expected it to come through on my KWs I have over done the backlinking for, but these are the 1's that improved. So is it just the Google Dance? I normally see some words such as the big 1 we target DJ Equipment go from position 13 - 24 can change hourly sometimes! Could it just be quite a few have dropped all at once and will pop back up this week? Also if anyone could give us any pointers in general on where you think we should be taking our SEO it would be much appreciated. I know we have been a little lazy with our backlinking and could do with some much better/ industry related websites linking to us, and there are title tags/metas on product page that need sorting.. aside these couple of issue's? DJs Only

Google place page Images
Is there any real difference in uploading an images directly to your google places page or linking an image from another site? I have heard that you get better results if you upload a photo to photo bucket then to insider pages then post that link to your google places page. To me it just seems a bit odd to do things this way. I get that it's suppose to give you more back links however I don't think it would necessarily be relevant or useful for the user. Any thoughts??
