4XX (Client Error) on Wordpress Wesbite
-
I've just taken over the management of a website and am getting 4x 4XX (client Error) issues.
Example: http://inter-italia.com/en/wp-login.php?action=lostpassword
Can anyone give any guidance as how to fix this wordpress?
I also see a lot of 'temporary redirects' due to multilingual plugin - is there anything I can do to fix this?
-
Yep I agree with Dan, unless you really want people to be able to find your lost password page through the search results i'd disallow it as well - actually there is a bunch of stuff you can do to further secure your wp-admin folder should you so choose : http://www.wpbeginner.com/wp-tutorials/11-vital-tips-and-hacks-to-protect-your-wordpress-admin-area/

Hey There
I answered similar questions here;
http://moz.com/community/q/wordpress-redirect-login-401s
http://moz.com/community/q/wordpress-4xx-errors-from-comment-re-direct
But essentially Stuart has the right idea too. In the drop down it's linking to somewhere where users can go if they forgot their password.
If you don't want this crawled (which I recommend) by Moz, Google, Bing etc add this to your robots.txt file;
Disallow: /wp-login.php?action=lostpassword
So that goes under what's in there now.

Ah ok - do you mean that it's showing up in your report of links in Open Site Explorer? If that is the case it is probably because it is linked to from a few pages on your site, including http://inter-italia.com/en/ (under the account drop down it's linked to as 'Forgot Password?')
It looks like this might be an issue with your Worpress theme as it should really be linking to http://inter-italia.com/wp-login.php?action=lostpassword but rather than http://inter-italia.com/en/wp-login.php?action=lostpassword
Best,
Stuart

Thanks Stuart.
That is the admin login page but I'm not sure about the link they mention Example: http://inter-italia.com/en/wp-login.php?action=lostpassword
It just shows up as a 404 error - can't see that the page actually exists? Not sure where Moz pulls this info from and if its worth being concerned about.

Hey Stacey,
In Wordpress the admin area is normally under the wp-admin folder (unless it's been changed), not sure if it's for the same site but the URL http://inter-italia.com/wp-admin/ seems to go to a WP admin page.
Hope that helps!
Stuart

Safest Route to Get from Drupal to Wordpress
Hi all, I have a prospective client who currently has a Drupal 7 site and they are interested in converting it to Wordpress (or simply building it new in Wordpress) and changing CMS. They would like to update the look of their site to make it a little more modern, but they are very concerned about preserving their SEO and rank, etc so they plan to keep the structure and urls, etc. pretty identical to what they have now with only minor cosmetic changes for the moment. I want to find the best and most economical route for them to take for a change like this. If an actual conversion/migration is the way to go, then I also want to help them find a professional developer they can trust to do the job correctly as I am not a Drupal person. I guess my question concerns what would be the safest and most economical route to preserve the SEO and rank, etc. that they have now? 1) Would that be an actual migration and conversion of their current site into a custom WP theme that's structured as closely as possible to the site currently? 2) Or, depending on the ultimate complexity of the site, would it be possible to leave out the step of migration altogether? Would there be huge cons or red flags to starting from scratch and manually building a custom WP theme while duplicating the architecture/links/urls, etc. as closely as possible to the current site? Anything else to be worried about if this is a possibility? 3) Or would you suggest some other way entirely? Thank you so much in advance for any guidance or suggestions on this! They are really nice people and I just want to make sure they do this safely because they get a lot of business from their site and they are justified to worry.

How can I fix New 4XX Issue on Site Crawl?
Hi all, My recent site crawl shows 27 4xx issues on this website http://www.rrbusinessconsultants.com/ All of them are for 'posts' on this wordpress website. Here is an example of the issue: http://www.rrbusinessconsultants.com/rr-business-consultants-on-the-rise-of-glassdoor-and-how-companies-are-coping/void(null) The blog page seems to be creating links ending in void(null) which are defaulting to 404 pages. I cannot see the links on the site so cannot see how to remove them. Can anyone provide any insight into how to correct his issue? Many thanks in advance.

I want to create a 301 redirect on a WordPress site, nothing's working...
Hello all, I'm hoping someone out there can give me a hand with this. I'm trying to modify my .htaccess file so that the site will go from maxcarnagemusic.com to www.maxcarnagemusic.com and also, so viewers will be redirected to www.maxcarnagemusic.com/home when they try to access the site. I've tried a few different things, including adding the 301 redirect plugin for Wordpress, but nothing seems to work. Can someone out there show/tell me how to create an htaccess file that will execute as much. I apologize in advance, my Apache experience is very, very limited. Thank you all in advance!

Switching over to wordpress
Hello fellow Mozers! I've searched to see if I find an answer, cant seem to find it. Is there a way to do a blanket 301 redirect? I am moving a site that has all pages end with .html extension over to wordpress. I was wondering if I could set up a rule that says redirect all pages with .html extension to a version of the page with no extension. I will keep the same url with the exception of the .html extension. http://www.website.com/page.html to http://www.website.com/page/

http://www.website.com/page-title.html to http://www.website.com/page-title/ Instead of doing a 301 redirect for about 250 pages, I was wondering if I can just do one rule that will handle all the redirects considering I am keeping the same page url without the .html extension. Thanks 🙂0 -
SaaS client portal for sharing files, invoicing, messaging?
For lack of a better way to describe what I'm looking for: Can anyone recommend a SaaS application that provides a secure client portal where a company and its clients can upload and share files, send messages, and that allows invoicing and online bill payment? Security is important as some files contain sensitive information, SSL required. I feel like I'm sort of looking for a CRM or something, but not really; and it's almost like base camp, but not quite. Ideas?
