Internal Linking | Site Architecture & Impact of PANDA
-
Recently, an SEO told me about a problem with my site architecture. Before I take any action, I would like some advice on this. May be this is basic for may people who read this.
My e-commerce site has over 400 pages - all of which are regularly updated. I sell 4 products and all 400 pages have an image (which says "subscribe now") clicking on which gets the user to the subscription/payment page. Many pages have 3 images on the same page (mostly because these pages are huge with more than 2000 words on each page and they require a lot of scrolling down, so we placed the "subscribe now" button at the top, middle and end of page).
Now effectively this means that there are over 1000+ images pointing to the subscription/ payment page. (1) I have been told that I should either remove these or put a "nofollow" on these images/subscribe now buttons. Should I do either?
Similarly, I have a legal disclaimer at the end of each page with a link to a detailed disclaimer page (this appears once under each page) followed by a standard boilerplate language (which I think will be about 15% of the total page content).
(2) Should I use image for the language instead? Does it count as duplicity of content?
Note: All redirects and pages are on the same/ my own domain.

Thanks Tom. Sure that helps.

Hi Rajat,
In response to your duplicity content for your legal disclaimer, since it is only a small amount of text and it's for legal purposes, although it is duplicate but it wouldn't hurt your website. Duplicate content in general shouldn't hurt much unless it is really spammy then Google might take manual action.

Hope this helps

Hi Rajat,
I don't think you need to be concerned about the these links all going to the same landing page. Essentially, it is a navigation button that points people to a page. The same thing, albeit not as an image typically, is true of an item on a menu, e.g. to an About Us page. That menu link will appear on every page as it is part of the main menu system for the site. Your subscription button is really no different in terms of helping users get to where they need to go to.

Thanks Peter. The landing page (for all these image links) does not give any more information per se. Having said that, the landing page informs the user about how to proceed in case they need more information.
To elaborate - the landing page details what the user will get once he subscribes to the product. The product is then delivered via email once the user signs up. So I would like to keep the images/call to action button so the user can know how he can get more information which is not available unless he goes to the landing page and signs up.
I am tempted to keep the images as is. One more thing, I can actually put a no-follow on all images as I am not trying to promote the landing page. The images in my opinion are really meant to make navigation easy. But I am worried with this whole 1000+ image buttons guiding to the same landing page.

Hi Rajat
In terms of your site having 1000+ images in reality it is just one. In my view, if your pages are 2000+ words long then the re-use of the subscribe button shouldn't be a problem. All I would say on that is does that button need to appear on every page or just some types of pages? Only use it where needed.
Yes you could add a nofollow link but again ask yourself why the button is there. Is it there just as a call to action for users or does the page it directs to have more related information and therefore more value to Google to index and provide extended information. If just a call to action then probably best to make the links nofollow and just have follow links on one page.
On the legal disclaimer, I say keep it as text. If the repeated content is small then it isn't an issue.
I hope that helps,
Peter

Blocking Google From Accessing Our Images - SEO Impact
We recently discovered that we were blocking Google from crawling our cdn, cdn.yournextshoes.com, where all our images are hosted. Unfortunately this went on for several months, and I wonder if this could explain our horrible SEO performance. Basically, I would like to know if this has impacted just our performance in Google Images (obviously our images have not been picked up by Google Images), or if our regular SEO has been impacted as well.Right now we're just receiving around 13% of our traffic from search, so we're trying to find out why Google does not like us.

Footer links vs Homepage Content
We are redesigning this site http://www.crystalshop.co.uk/ but not reinstating the ecommerce yet so the primary aim of the site is to increase foot traffic in the shops. The list of shops on the RHS of the homepage is really messy but is useful. I would like to move these to the footer... is this a bad idea? If this is, is it a bit of a gamble to move it to the bottom of the homepage rather than higher up as it is? We are already featuring a link to the shop finder page but I want to get the locations in as prominent place as possible but it's quite a long list!

New site, SEO well considered, no traffic :/ What next?
Hi There! We've built whatphone.com.au with SEO at the top of the list but things are not going as expected. Yes, there's still a lot of work to do, but I was hoping to get some guidance on what to do next to make sure we keep the right focus. This is what we've done to date: Added lots of unique and relevant content, particularly to our blog (and will continue to do so on a weekly basis) Ensured internal linking is strong Optimised each product page around product name (and relevant internal links pointing to it) Ensured the code is clean (ok, we are not a 100% but in a good place) URL structure, metadata, page titles, file names and alt tags following best practice Named the company and registered our domain around one of main keywords we are currently targeting "what phone" What we're working on: Link building Site speed Social signals Rich media (videos, more images) Not a bad effort right? No love from an organic traffic perspective 😕 Ok, the site / domain is no older than 2 months old, it's a very competitive industry, and no inbound links yet, but come on! Questions: Are there any benefits of engaging external providers to help with link building? I'm talking about outsourcing from elancer or similar.. Or is this playing with fire? Have we missed something obvious here? Any help will be greatly appreciated! PS: we currently have some issues with our pricing tables, but will fixed as soon as possible..

Should I diversify internal anchor text
In the post penguin era should I diversify my internal anchor text? I have exact match links throughout my site that point to my important pages so should I look at varying the anchor text? I also have exact match terms in my sites navigation such as 'london wedding bands', 'edinburgh wedding bands' etc... I read somewhere that I should remove the 'money term' so that they become 'london', 'edinburgh' etc...Is that they case?

We have a situation with the domain www.curadebt.com where 90% of the links are no follow.
We have a situation with the domain www.curadebt.com where 90% of the links are no follow. See http://www.opensiteexplorer.org/comparisons?site=www.curadebt.com%2F . If we use UAW and submityourarticle.com with spun articles of high quality, could that help solve? Any other ideas for solving to get follow links? Thanks!

Embedded Video Sharing Count As Links?
I am considering using Wistia as a video platform to host video content I don't want listed on YouTube. One of the features they have (I bet they all do) is to allow other webmasters to embed the video on their site as well. If a webmaster embed's one of my Wistia videos on their site, do I get link juice? ...or is this only helpful to help spread branding?

Are there any negative side affects to posting the same video to both YouTube & Vimeo
I had heard that Google frowns upon duplicate content so if I were to post the same videos to both YouTube, Vimeo and others, could that have some kind of negative impact, such as the video showing up lower in the SERPs?
