Does my website have a bad rank in google because EMD or lack content ?
-
Hello, I'm a beginner
I just started my website xxx a few days ago.
I submitted my url to several good quality directories (about 20, the last 3 days), I tried to write different descriptions for each directory.
I have a very bad rank on google results (28+) for keywords "psychologue montluçon"
I don't know if it's because of :
lack of content, EMD, lack of backlinks (I submitted my website to directories, but its seems it takes a lot of time for updates).
Sorry for bad english, if you can help, thank you !

Thank you Nishadha and Robert for your good advices.
I will pay attention to directories, improve content, read moz seo guide and also be patient...
I have just one more question about yyy (yes, the url is written with 2 "-")
It's not exactly a "competitor" website (because it's in paris, and i'm not in paris), but I don't understand why this site was first a few days ago for keywords "psychologue" "paris"... ?? Now it seems to be on the second page ...

Adelaide,
The issue is not EMD because there is no "penalty," etc. for such. IMO, EMD's still have a little extra for a site even though we all think their value will go away at some point. I just have not seen that happen yet. Nishadha has it right, you are a new site; don't expect too much too soon.
And, I will caution you that even with "quality" directories, you need to be careful. You want your links from a variety of places and with a new site, you have the opportunity to ensure you never have a penalty if you are reasonable about your approach to all. Again, IMO, good content beats other links any day, because people link to good content. So, make sure it is fresh, current, and relevant to the site.
Hang in there, SEO is not for the impatient.
Best of luck,
Robert

Since you started your site few days ago ranking on the 28'th place is a good thing. It takes time for a new website to build authority and move upward in search engines.
I checked out your site and it had some decent content. Although more relevant content is always a good idea. Check out the Moz SEO guide ( http://moz.com/beginners-guide-to-seo ) and implement the things mentioned there and you'll see an improvement in rankings.
Directory links are not the most valuable links and it takes time for them to get indexed anyway. Try to get links from relevant blogs and website for more authoritative links.
I don't think having an exact match domain will be held against you. But it is not as beneficial as it used to be.

How is it possible to rank first for a keyword, when the keyword isn't written on the page?
I noticed that one of our competitors is ranking in first position for a keyword but when looking on the page grader. The exact keyword is not used on the page at all (or in title, URL etc.). How is this possible, when other sites have content with those exact words?

SERPs for English search terms in Google.es show NY and USA companies?
Hey Mozzers, I'm working for a client offering legal services in Spain for people from the UK. When I search 'legal services' in Google.es all the SERPs show sites from the US - mainly NY: https://www.google.es/search?source=hp&ei=tRbXWqzRDoSZsgGY6rmgCA&q=legal+services&oq=legal+services&gs_l=psy-ab.3..0l10.2835.4435.0.4512.15.10.0.0.0.0.297.1445.0j4j3.7.0....0...1c.1.64.psy-ab..8.7.1444.0..0i131k1j0i10k1.0.clK-EZ4vVWk There are lots of Spanish sites translated into English and showing sites in Google.es such as http://www.lsosm.org/ offer no value - it's a very weird SERP - any ideas why? Thanks Bush

Specific Keyword Ranking Advice
Hi Folks, We're trying to optimize the page (http://alabu.com/goat-milk-soap/) for the keyword "goat milk soap". Our page used to rank #1 before Panda (actually our home page did, not the page I'm trying to optimize on now). Now we're around rank 25. I've followed all the guidelines for on-page optimization I know, and I've done everything I can think of. We're currently executing a link building campaign but that obviously takes time. Does anyone have any advice? Is there anything else I can do to improve our ranking? Thanks, Hal

How do I do SEO for a client who is starting a website that is in a niche with very little to none search traffic?
I am helping a client do On-page optimization and link building. His website is rather like thoughtcatalog.com, where it is a collection of random articles, opinions and anecdotes with no fixed genre. He also has a section devoted to artsy pictures of women. To make things worse, I am in a country (singapore) where the population is small, and the search traffic for his kind of content is minuscule. I have trouble finding out good keywords for him to target and I am considering not undergoing any serious keyword targeting at all (because it will detract from the style of his content). I did a little competitor research, and most of the websites in such a genre do not seem to do any keyword targeting at all! In such a case, how do i continue to help him with SEO? should I abandon keyword research? What should i do to help him earn traffic?

It appears that my search rankings in my SEOMoz profile aren't working - either that or something really bad has happened to my rankings. I left it a few days thinking it was updating but nothing seems to have changed. Can anyone help?

Are mutiple parts (volumes) of an article bad for SEO?
If i have a lengthy article which I decide to split into two separate articles E.g part 1 and part 2 but I target the same keyword in both articles, is this bad from an SEO point of view? For example, if I publish an article about 'healthy snacks ideas' and call the first article 'Healthy snack ideas part 1' and the second article 'Healthy snacks ideas part 2' in order to differentiate between them, would these two articles effectively just compete against one another? Is using part 1 and part 2 in article titles bad practice? Essentially what I am wondering is should you never ever have more than one article that is targetting the same keywords or should I just target slightly different keywords for each article even if they are very closely related?

Should I be optimizing for Keywords that we already rank for?
When selecting which Keywords to optimize for, should I choose all words that I want us to move up for? Like that my company appears ranked for 5, 10, 42, 44, etc.? Or should I select a mix of some that rank well (top 1-2 pgs in Google) /rank near pg 5/ and some that aren't showing up in the top 50 yet? I don't want to waste my time optimizing for words I don't need to. Thanks!
