How to create sites with powerful individual pages to achieve top results . According to MOZ I need to have powerful individual pages to achieve top results my site has a 0 authority so for this reason I need to focus on powerful pages but how do I know if my pages are powerful or not.

My pleasure, Azael. That is problem faced by pretty much all small business owners - finding the time to run their business and manage their marketing. This is why many companies budget, if they can, to hire experts to help with the marketing, but other business owners prefer to take the hands-on approach of doing it all themselves or doing it all in-house ... and in the end, that can sometimes be the strongest strategy, because the business owner ends up being educated in totally new ways about his business. Good luck with the work ahead!

Hi Miriam,
Thank you for your advice your analogy makes it very easy to understand, powerful pages and very helpful. My problem is ruining a business and doing this on top with out experience is near to impossible. But now with all the advice I'm getting here it really gives me a good idea where to star, with out wasting time in other things. Thank you again for taking the time.

Thank you Matt for your feed back, about link building. I currently have someone doing some SEO and for the most part he's been able to make some success, only 3 keywords are on first page and it took 7 months for this to happen. I know it takes time, but he is only focusing on those 10 keywords and optimized only those pages with those keywords in them. I'm really unaware of what he's doing to rank them but we are doing 0 social networking though we have Facebook, twitter, Google Plus. Still I know I need to do more to help his work, however, your advice is well appreciated.

Hi Azael,
Matt has given you some great resources to explore to evaluate the strength of any page. Just to add to this, I find it can be helpful to think of your website as a book, with a new topic on each page. You want to make every page of your book worth reading, so it is worth it to devote the necessary time and resources to creating the best possible content you can on each and every page of the website. Once you've accomplished this, you can start thinking from the outside-in, regarding things like people linking to your pages. But first, you've got to develop really great pages that will merit things like time on site, links, social mentions and more.

Hi Azael
I would say you need to get an overall strategy of how to increase the authority of your site, which will involve lots including earning high quality links (don't just go an start grabbing any links you can get a strategy and go for earning quality related links). In order to understand Page Authority I would have a look at this https://moz.com/learn/seo/page-authority. I would also ask what you current on-page strategy is and how or if you have optimised on-page factors - for instance are you starting with targeting long-tail searches? These are less competitive and you would be surprised how a new site can gain ground with targeting this type of keyword.
I would start at the beginning with https://moz.com/beginners-guide-to-seo and then make sure all your on-page is optimised and in place. Then start with working on a strategy on how you can start to drive traffic to your pages - are you active on social media? This sort of traffic can lead to links.
You can test if your pages are powerful or not by running them through Opensite Explorer - https://moz.com/researchtools/ose/ to see what page authority is assigned to them. This will give you a good indicator. Don't forget in terms of relevant links you should consider doing some competitor research - run their site through OpenSite Explorer and see if there are any relevant quality links that could apply to your site. I often see people over looking things such as links from suppliers sites if they sell products for instance - often a quick win. Also are there any industry sites that you could potentially start to build or already have a relationship with - if so do it and start to try and get pieces published on there. This isn't purely with the idea of links it is about gaining referral traffic and building your own authority which only leads to positive things for your site.
I know this is broad advice but I think from your question you need to start at the beginning and work from there. I would also ask what you are currently targeting - national or local rankings? If you are targeting local rankings you want to start optimising for your local area and start gaining relevant local citations and so on - Moz Local SEO - https://moz.com/learn/local - local is a good place to start if it fits with what you do. I specifically mention local citations as they are often easier to gain as you are likely to have existing relationships in the community in which you are based - be sure to take advantage of these...
Hope this helps!
Best
Matt

My pages are absolutely plummeting. HELP!
Hi all, Several of my pages have absolutely tanked in the past fortnight, and I've no idea why. One of them, according to Moz, has a Page Optimisation Score of 96, and it's dropped from 10th to 20th. Our DA is lower than our competitors, but still, that's a substantial drop. Sadly, this has been replicated across the site. Any suggestions? Cheers, Rhys

How does duplicate content work when creating location specific pages?
In a bid to improve the visibility of my site on the Google SERP's, I am creating landing pages that were initially going to be used in some online advertising. I then thought it might be a good idea to improve the content on the pages so that they would perform better in localised searches. So I have a landing page designed specifically to promote what my business can do, and funnel the user in to requesting a quote from us. The main keyword phrase I am using is "website design london", and I will be creating a few more such as "website design birmingham", "website design leeds". The only thing that I've changed at the moment across all these pages is the location name, I haven't touched any of the USP's or the testimonial that I use. However, in both cases "website design XXX" doesn't show up in any of the USP's or testimonial. So my question is that when I have these pages built, and they're indexed, will I be penalised for this tactic?

How best to clean up doorway pages. 301 them or follow no index ?
Hi Mozzers, I have what is classed as doorway pages on my website. These have historically been location specific landing pages for some of our categories but from speaking to a number of different webmasters , then general consensus is that they are not in google guidelines so I will be getting punished by having them. My options are : I can 301 the pages back to their original category pages . This will conserve some link juice to pass back to the respective category page. I can set these as Follow No index. Not sure what will happen here with regards to link value etc. What would be best ?... Some of the pages do currently rank "fairly well" for some of the locations so I am getting traffic from them but I also know I will be getting a algorithmic penalty for having them so how best I clean these up ?. Also , by cleaning up the site structure , would I see any benefit here ? or will I have to wait for a new panda update/ refresh ? I thought the panda refresh won't use a new dataset thanks Pete

Sub domain for geo pages
Hello Group! I have been tossing the idea in my head of using sub domains for the geo pages for each of my clients. For example: one of my clients is a lawyer in a very competitive Atlanta market http://bestdefensega.com. Can I set his geo page to woodstock.bestdefensega.com? Is this a viable option? Will I get penalized? Thoughts or suggestions always appreciated! Thanks in Advance

Onsite Optimization for 2 Locations on One Site
Hello, We have multiple client who have 2 office locations n the same state in varying counties and would like to have their site rank for two counties. Is this plausible ? For instance they would like their header tags to read "Lawyer in Middlesex & Monmouth County NJ" Rather than "Middlesex County NJ Lawyer" Would this be an effective strategy or be seen as stuffing by Google?

SEO for local business directory type site
I am thinking about creating a local business directory type website that lists all local Tattoo Shops. I am familiar with both local and global SEO and how to differentiate between them, however, I am not sure how I should approach this type of website. It isn't an actual business, but I want to target local searches that are looking for tattoo shops. In other words, when someone types in "tattoo shops" or "tattoo shops near me", or "tattoo parlors", I want the website to appear. Is this something that is manageable, or will the individual Tattoo Shop websites always show before mine since they are real local businesses with google+ pages?

Need advice on direction to go with site
I am taking over this site and redoing it all over. I believe that google may have penalized the site because the site doesn't show up in the SERPS, but will show under a google search (site:prosplumbingsanjoseca.com). I am just asking for your opinions on what I should do to correct the issues with this site and get back into the SERPS.

How do I fix duplicate content issues if the pages are really just localized versions?
Does this still hurt our SEO? Should we place different countries on their own respective domains (.co.uk, etc)?
