Need REGEX help
-
Hi Mozzers,
I have multiple filters in one of the GA accounts I manage. I just created new pages that have URLs containing the keyword "spring" (location in texas) and wanted to filter out spring in the GA Spring profile(screenshot) .
My issue is it will filter all the URLs containing the kw spring and the website has multiple blog post containing the same kw (spring).
So what I need is a Regex formula so I can make sure I track only the Spring tx traffic and not the blog posts.
Thanks for letting me know how can I do that!
-
Hi Kristina,
Would you rather do it a different way?
Thanks
-
Hi Kristina
I would love to share this infor but I can't do it here. Can I get you email or so so I can send you the detailed titles.
Thanks Kristina
-
Yep, I definitely think you could! Could you send me a list of the page titles you want to target, along with some page titles that you don't? The key is to be very specific in the pattern, so it doesn't include any pages that aren't in the Spring location pages.
-
Hi Kristina,
the difference between them is that one is about spring cleaning and the other I would like to capture traffic is in Spring texas.
Regarding the page title, they are pretty similar but not identical. Do you think I could use that option? If yes can I include 11 page titles (since I am trying to track all the Spring Texas location pages) ? If yes how would I add this type of filter?
Thanks!

(Whoops, sorry, didn't get the notification when you first posted this)
Hm, so, it doesn't look like you're using a subdirectory here. You're using "spring" in the page. If you were using a subdirectory, it would look like this:
And so on.
Since you're using a page, though, I think that you'll need to use a custom filter (the second radio button at the top). You can choose to "Include" anything: page title, campaign, referrer, etc.
These sound like they're very similar pages, so are you using a similar page title between them? Something that would be very specific to this type of pages?
-
Hey Kristina,
Do you need more information or it enough?
Thanks!
-
Sure Kristina,
Don't want to include:
example.com/....-colorado-springs
example.com/..../spring-cleaning-....
include:
....
Thanks Kristina!

Hi Taysir,
Could you give us examples of the URLs you do and don't want to filter into this profile? You can make the domain www.mydomain.com so it remains anonymous.
Thanks!
Kristina

Hi mozzers,
the question is little tricky but if someone knows any useful resources, it would be great share those instead.
Thanks guys!

Does Google need Analytics installed to create metrics?
Hi Mozers, Does Google know time on site, number of page visits, bounce rate, etc. even if Google Analytics is NOT installed? Does it measure all that stuff anyway, and if you install the GA code on your site, that is so that YOU can see those metrics? OR can Google only see those metrics if you install GA on your site? Thanks! Jane

Community Discussion - Do you think increasing word count helps content rank better?
In the online marketing community, there is a widespread belief that long-form content ranks better. In today's YouMoz post, Ryan Purthill shares how his research indicated 1,125 to be a magic number of sorts: The closer a post got to this word count, the better it ranked. Diminishing returns, however, were seen once a post exceeded 1,125 words. Does this jibe with your own data and experiences? Do you think increasing word count helps content rank better in general? What about for specific industries and types of content? Let's discuss!

Possible penalty question - need expert help
hallo everyone, I am posting this question to the MOZ community, because I could not find any useful information or proper advice so far, even after consulting a few local SEO experts. I noticed from the end of september a steady and consistent decrease in visits (please see attached pdf) for my website https://bastabollette.it I lost so far almost 40%. Please consider that I have not changed my habits in blog posting lately, both in quantity and quality. I have not made any subtantial change on the website lately. I did a general audit of the site asking to an expert but apart from some generic suggestions (like: "work on increasing PR, add more quality backliks, use more no-follow links, fix broken links" - things I am currently going to fix anyway) I don't really understand the reason of the drop. Please also note the strange drop of 11/22/15 (see search console screenshot). Can you please help me? thank you. Selezione_018.jpg Selezione_019.jpg

Help Blocking Crawlers. Huge Spike in "Direct Visits" with 96% Bounce Rate & Low Pages/Visit.
Hello, I'm hoping one of you search geniuses can help me. We have a successful client who started seeing a HUGE spike in direct visits as reported by Google Analytics. This traffic now represents approximately 70% of all website traffic. These "direct visits" have a bounce rate of 96%+ and only 1-2 pages/visit. This is skewing our analytics in a big way and rendering them pretty much useless. I suspect this is some sort of crawler activity but we have no access to the server log files to verify this or identify the culprit. The client's site is on a GoDaddy Managed WordPress hosting account. The way I see it, there are a couple of possibilities.
Reporting & Analytics | | EricFish
1.) Our client's competitors are scraping the site on a regular basis to stay on top of site modifications, keyword emphasis, etc. It seems like whenever we make meaningful changes to the site, one of their competitors does a knock-off a few days later. Hmmm. 2.) Our client's competitors have this crawler hitting the site thousands of times a day to raise bounce rates and decrease the average time on site, which could like have an negative impact on SEO. Correct me if I'm wrong but I don't believe Google is going to reward sites with 90% bounce rates, 1-2 pages/visit and an 18 second average time on site. The bottom line is that we need to identify these bogus "direct visits" and find a way to block them. I've seen several WordPress plugins that claim to help with this but I certainly don't want to block valid crawlers, especially Google, from accessing the site. If someone out there could please weigh in on this and help us resolve the issue, I'd really appreciate it. Heck, I'll even name my third-born after you. Thanks for your help. Eric0 -

Help configuring GA Async code for an older CMS platform
Hey Guys, I don't know if anyone can help or not, but my CMS support seem to not be interested in helping me configure the GA Async code for whatever reason. I am pretty sure the code is firing twice on the site and is masking the true bounce rate. I want to maintain tracking of e commerce transactions and event tracking, but It is beyond me how to configure the A sync code to track these events accurately. I do not want to start hap haphazardly experimenting, so I am asking for help instead. At present our CMS has to have GA tracking enabled on some code in the site, I imagine this populates the GA with the transaction info. here is a link to the support forum I am using to try to find a solution. http://www.ecommercetemplates.com/support/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=81704&whichpage=2 I have been over the GA forums too. Any and all help would be greatly appreciated.
