Hi guys,We built 2 sites for a client called Kilsaran. 1. Kilsaran.ie targeting Ireland2. Kilsaraninternational.co.uk targeting the ukThe issue is with the uk version of the site is not appearing where it used to be on the SERPs on google.co.uk when you serach for either "Kilsaran" or "Kilsaran International". The Irish version kilsaran.ie now appears first.
- We have set the GEO targeting for the respective Countries.
- The .ie site is the original site with the longer History and much more domain authority, links etc
- There is no manual penalty appearing
So my questions is how do I get the English version to appear no.1on google.co.uk? Is it a case of building some local links? or should I implement geo ip detection?Another related question. What is the geo targeting tools function in GWT used for?ThanksRob

Hi Hawk...
what you are describing is quite a common situation, one I see - for instance - in Google.es with South American Spanish sites outranking .es Spanish sites.
That happens when of two sites in the same language one has a much stronger link profile than the other. In those cases, the first site, even if it is clearly a different Country Level Domain Name (.ie in your case), will quite always outrank the local domain with a weaker link profile (the .co.uk in your case).
The only solution, apart strengthening the .co.uk site's link profile, is using the rel="alternate" hreflang="x-X".
That mark-up suggests to Google, on a URL by URL base, what URL to show to users depending on their language and location, so to exactly avoid, using your case, that an URL of the Irish site will be shown instead of the UK one for UK searchers.
So, it's not a penalization problem, is just that your .ie site is too strong respect the .co.uk and because both sites are not technically optimized for International SEO.

"We have set the GEO targeting for the respective Countries" I'm guessing you mean in WMTs. Normally that is enough, but I think considering that the .ie is very strong compared the the .co.uk backlink wise, google is deciding that the .ie is a better result.
Just to be clear for me the .ie Is no.1 and .co.uk is no.2
I haven't looked at your backline profile but if you have alot of links from the UK pointing to the .ie domain, that could be working against your .co.uk ranking higher than .ie in the surps. changing or adding local links to the uk site might swing to the No.1 spot.
You could use geo ip to auto redirect or maybe a light box popup asking if they want the uk or ireland site. Note that alot of N.Ireland IPs register as London (thanks virgin media), and I have also heard some some UK ips registering as Dublin (isp servers in dublin),

I think you need to set up some rel=alternate tags to let Google know that you have two versions of the same website because of 'language' differences (at least dialect differences). I think Google may be seeing duplicate content in the newer website and just placing the older website in the serps in its place.

Competitor significantly jumped in SERP rankings
We opened a new location in a new market in early February and eventually tapered off improving SERP rankings when we reached an average rank of #3. As we began increasing in ranking, the competitions' average rankings we're declining. Suddenly, in April, one of our competitors spiked to an average SERP ranking of #1. The site that jumped to the top of SERP was a location page and there was no content changes, or changes to their website. Our competitor's links also decreased during the time of this spike. Does anyone have any ideas as to what caused our competitor to spike so high, so suddenly? Thanks,

Page optimisation score = 93, but rank on 2nd page?
So, one of my pages has an optimisation score of 93. The DA of the website is 74 and is lower than many of our competitors, but to rank 12th? Anyway, does anyone have any suggestions? All the images are under 100kb, but the page speed isn't great (not something I'm currently able to change). All alt tags are using variations of our keywords.

I can't get my page to rank. What am I doing wrong?
I'm new to this forum and this is my first question. So if I'm not supposed to ask this type of question, please forgive me. I'm trying my best to get http://www.westcoastflenterprises.com/#!roofing/bbb1e to rank on the first page in Google for "roofing contractors" in the following SW Florida cities: "Naples, Bonita Springs, and Fort Myers." Our company has a physical address in Fort Myers only so I understand it's going to be harder to get it to rank for Naples and Bonita Springs. But I can't even get this page to rank well for "roofing contractors in Fort Myers." The page authority is 25 and our domain authority is 27. Our home page authority is 39. Our primary category in Google is building restoration & preservation. But we have divisions in our company: Roofing Concrete Ornamental metals I would love it if our roofing page could rank higher than the third page, which is where it currently sits. I worked really hard to get each of our roofing-material manufacturers to link directly to our roofing page, not the home page. My hope is that you can help me because I'm really discouraged. Thanks in advance.

International SEO - How to rank similar keys for differents countries
Hello MOZ friends.
Local Website Optimization | | NachoRetta
I work in an digital marketing agency in Argentina and since we have a lot of traffic from other Spanish-speaking countries like Mexico and Spain, we want to rank specific keywords for these countries.
We were thinking of putting new versions of the homepage in subfolders, for example /es/ for Spain, /mx/ to Mexico, etc. In these new subfolders we would place a very similar version of the homepage with a few minor modifications to work specific keywords in each country. For example, in Spain it is more searched "marketing online", and "marketing digital" is more used in Mexico and Argentina.
I have understood that to implement this we would be to place a label hrflang on the homepage directing visitors and crawlers to the correct version of each country. Is it ok?
Another concern is, whether they are very similar pages, Google does not take it as duplicate content ..
I read this:
https://moz.com/blog/the-international-seo-checklist
And i am not completely sure about using subfolders for each country, but i dont know how to position diferents keywords for diferent countries.

Why am I not ranking although my domain authority is higher than competitors with same relevancy?
So I am trying to rank the domain http://jamesriver.org for the term "Churches in Springfield, MO" Not sure why we are not ranking as well as we ought to rank. I have a few assumptions, but wanted to see what other have to say to get better input. Below are some details about the us: We have done a brand name change in the past 2 years - James River Assembly to James River Church We have two locations: Ozark, MO - which has been there for a very long time and Springfield, MO which is a newer campus We have higher domain authority than others that rank higher for the term We have a new website that was launch about 3 months ago We have a location page for each of the 2 campuses I am wondering what factors might be at play in our lesser rankings even though we are relevant to the term and have higher authority than those that are ranking much higher than us. Thanks for any help you can provide.
