Why am I not ranking although my domain authority is higher than competitors with same relevancy?
-
So I am trying to rank the domain http://jamesriver.org for the term "Churches in Springfield, MO" Not sure why we are not ranking as well as we ought to rank. I have a few assumptions, but wanted to see what other have to say to get better input.
Below are some details about the us:
- We have done a brand name change in the past 2 years - James River Assembly to James River Church
- We have two locations: Ozark, MO - which has been there for a very long time and Springfield, MO which is a newer campus
- We have higher domain authority than others that rank higher for the term
- We have a new website that was launch about 3 months ago
- We have a location page for each of the 2 campuses
I am wondering what factors might be at play in our lesser rankings even though we are relevant to the term and have higher authority than those that are ranking much higher than us.
Thanks for any help you can provide.

Hi Steven,
As Miriam said, there are so many possible reasons at play here, but one point I would like to make:
- We have higher domain authority than others that rank higher for the term
Remember, that DA is a MOZ score and has absolutely no impact on where Google sees you or why someone someone else ranks higher than you.
- We have a new website that was launch about 3 months ago
Have you checked that all 301's and redirects are in place correctly? I am assuming this was a new site design on the existing domain?

Hi Steven,
Coincidentally, we have a very similar thread going on right now for a church in Texas:
https://moz.com/community/q/an-apparent-ranking-mystery
You might want to read that and see if it helps answer some or all of your questions.
There are hundreds of factors that contribute to local rankings, including things you can't control like the age of a site or the user-as-centroid phenomenon. What you can have more control over are:
-
Website quality, usability and optimization
-
Citation consistency and growth
-
Review acquisition
-
Social marketing
In auditing your client's site and comparing it with his closest competitors, be sure you are really considering your most important terms. As has been highlighted in the other thread I've linked to, a term like Churches is really generic. To me (and other responders on that thread) it seems much more relevant to rank for the specific type of church (Baptist, Catholic, etc.)
Hope you'll pop over there and read the discussion. I think you'll find it relevant.

How to Rank Local Website in Search Engines?
Hello, I'm the owner of a rubbish removal company based in London - Frank Rubbish Removal and trying to optimize the website of the company for search engines. Until now, I have hired a couple marketing companies but without success. What I want to achieve is to rank for local keywords in the rubbish removal niche, for example, Rubbish Removal Chelsea, waste clearance Hackney, waste removal Harrow...and similar local keywords. I have spent a lot of money on marketing companies and the website still can't go on 1st page of search engines in the UK. Can you tell me what I can do or who can hire to bring my website on 1st page for the local keywords?

Roller Coaster Rankings
Hi All! I'm an experienced SEO freelancer trying to help a company achieve great SEO results 🙂 I optimized a lot of pages which helped the site start ranking, but now some keywords are flying up and down seemingly at random. For example, one keyword went from #11 to under #50! Is it a bad sign when there is instability in the keywords? Should I be seeing some "settling down'' on my dear keywords? If there is no settling, any suggestions?

Accurate rankings data? software? tools?
Hello, While I am aware that Google rankings are subject to a number of variables, I still need to be able to provide the most accurate rankings data for my clients in their reports. Most recently, I have been using the Google Adwords Planner and modifying by location and/or device. Now, having found discrepancy in the MOZ rankings, I started trying to again find the most accurate tools or software. Could someone please suggest the most accurate tool, and also how the accurate rankings are achieved? Any help would be greatly appreciated!!!! Thanks

Combining sites. But what domain to use?
So we currently have two websites: www.thephotoboothguys.co.uk and www.thephotoboothguys.com.au We're redeveloping our sites, and combining them to have just a singular website (and then sub sections for each country / location). Unfortunately we can not get the .com of our domain, nor the _.net _And I really can't find a .com that i think will work (for lack of availability, or just because the domain name would not be succinct enough). So, I also have registered - www.photobooth.gy and www.thephotoboothguys.co

My question ultimately is - is it a bad idea to use a .gy or .co as my main domain - especially when we dont operate in either Guyana or Columbia - but, assuming that the content and structure of the website make it clear what countries and locations we do operate in. Is this something Google et al will figure out over time? Or is it likely to make a huge impact? Or should I be searching harder to find a .com that will work for me? Cheers!0 -

Local Rank riddle
Here is a very odd scenario which to me makes very little sense. How can a site rank on Page #1 of Google for let's say "Boston party planner" yet on Page#2 for "party planner Boston"?? Would love some insight on this one. thanks, Chris
