Title in google organic display
-
The title (top link) in my organic result in google search has my page title then a dash and another keyword. This keyword is not related to the search result. It may discourage clicks. Where does google get that and how can i change it?
For example:
Page Title - unrelated keyword
url
link description -
Hi there,
That's odd! I've found you on there so I'll PM you instead. Cheers!
-
Thank you Jane. I am unable to PM you. Your name doesn't show up in the drop down list. What is the username I should use?
-
Hi there,
Dennis and Kevin are correct - Google sometimes displays what it thinks might be "better", even if you disagree. If possible, can you show us the example? Feel free to PM it to me if you would rather. If you'd rather keep it private, I still definitely agree with trying to change the tag in various ways, perhaps improving its descriptiveness, to see if the page displayed in the SERP changes as well.
I hope this helps.
Jane

Kevin is spot on. Google can change your title tags.
Try changing your existing one to a better one, improve the length and the relevance of the content. Plus the signals pointing to that page so they would stop changing automatically
-
Sometimes Google will change the text on where the title tag usually appears if they think they can do a better job. For more information, please see this post.

The unrelated keyword after the dash is not in my title tag. I am not using Wordpress. It is an html website.
-
Also, if you are using wordpress please check out the Yoast SEO plugin, there you will find very easy and straight forward ways to edit your title tag and create relevant snippets for google.
-
That's your page's title tag. If you view the page's source code (click Ctrl U) you will see <title>Page Title</span><span class="webkit-html-tag"></title>. You just need to change that in the html of the page.
If your site is Wordpress (which often uses the dash automatically as separator) go to your Settings, then General, then Site Title and see if you see Unrelated Keyword there.

Bing result title is displaying a competitors name
When searching "Cambridge Savings Bank" which is the specific name of a bank in Bing the search results return with them as Number one with the correct URL. The issue is Bing has titled the search result "East Cambridge Savings Bank" (which is another entity all together) and still has the correct www.cambridgesavings.com URL. So basically Bing is putting another corporation's name on our website. This issue only is in Bing. Any idea how to correct this? 2.png 1.png

Homepage is deindexed in Google
We recently noticed that our primary page was de-indexed in Google. When looking in google search console there are no manual actions taken. We did add a few new banners to the site but I have no idea why this would have negatively affected that site. I did add a new page called https://enleaf.com/company/testimonials/ that had some duplicate testimonials that were also on the home page but have since removed that. Not sure where to go from here.

Why are my page titles not being honored?
If you view source you will see my actual title tag http://www.sqlsentry.com/products/performance-advisor/sql-server-performance The google results are showing a completely different title tag that we do not want used. This was working properly and I'm not understanding how it got changed. Thanks!

Google Places Question......
Hi Guys. I am working with a photographer they do not have a studio they shoot on location. However I noticed many photographers within their industry have their home address listed in their google places, and they too shoot on location. My client doesn't want their home address listed so I wondered what options there would be? Do you think renting mail forwarding address would suffice?

How can I optimise for Google Products?
Has anyone got experience of optimising Google Products (Google Base) feeds? I've noticed that, although my site doesn't often appear on page one in the standard results, we occasionally appear right at the top because of the "universal" shopping results. My question is: how can we make this happen more often? There seems to be a lot less competition (presumably because our competitors haven't worked out how to provide the feed to Google yet!), so I imagine it should be easier and quicker to reach the top this way than any other way. Thanks! Alex

How important are unique titles and descriptions?
Hi there, I've recently started working on a very large travel website. One of my main duties is to get it rankings for certain terms (which it is't at the moment, at all!) A large proportion of the website is dynamic, meaning that the pages, and URLs are produced using sessions. I've already enquired with the company who provide the website about how I can get unique meta data for each page on our website. They came back and said it can be done for the static pages, but not for the dynamic pages. This leaves me with about thousands of pages with duplicated meta data. Not at all ideal. I was just wondering how damaging this is likely to be to the SEO of my site. Am I going to be able to achieve rankings even with this issue? Or do I need to get it sorted ASAP? Thanks

Google Local Results and URL Titles
After searching for (city name) (business type) a number of my competitor's sites come up with the title of their web page as the results (including geographic descriptors). However, my site is listed by name and does not reflect our URL title. How is this possible (did someone manually change the title of our listing?) and how can I change this back so that the title includes a geo descriptor? Do I simply edit the listing under google places or will this have a negative effect on our rankings?
