Why are there significant changes in the amount of duplicate content without any known action?
-
I've noticed a surprisingly rapid change in duplicate content over the past month. I'd noticed ~6,000 instances of duplicate content, after disavowing bad links we went down to 3k, this makes perfect sense to me. But after that, without doing anything whatsoever, from last Thursday, the 20th, to yesterday the instances of duplicate content decreased again down to 2k. Could this just be a delayed indexing of pages or are there other factors here? Thanks for the help.
-
Come to think of it, the only thing we did do was fire the SEO company that we had working for us, and started doing SEO in house, but this doesn't make sense in terms of rapid shifts in duplicate content.

Without really being involved, it is very hard to try and figure this out exactly.
For now, I wouldn't worry unless you start to see problems, such as a drop in the number of pages actually indexed, drop in traffic or searches where you appear.

To the best of my knowledge we've changed nothing about our site recently which is why I'm trying to attribute this rapid drop to something and the only thing we've done is disavow the links. So the disavow was just a shot in the dark to try to understand these changes.
-
Are you using any parameters (tracking/session id's) on your site? Also, what Andy said--disavowing wouldn't decrease this #. It was something else.
-
You can get problems with duplicate content from all over the web, but a disavow would have absolutely no impact on this. That is to distance you from external links that you don't wish to be associated with.
As this is a something related to the MOZ products, I can't give you an answer on that I'm afraid.
Have you made no actual changes to the site that could account for this? If you can, re-categorise this post to include Product Support.

Can you look at your crawl diagnostics and see the difference in how many pages were crawled at each of those intervals? That would help diagnose what's happening here.
Thanks

I was under the impression that duplicate content can not only be caused by duplicate content on the site but actually also from outside sites, even notable ones, using directly duplicate content. http://moz.com/blog/duplicate-content-in-a-post-panda-world
See below:
(3) Cross-domain Duplicates
A cross-domain duplicate occurs when two websites share the same piece of content:
These duplicates could be either “true” or “near” duplicates. Contrary to what some people believe, cross-domain duplicates can be a problem even for legitimate, syndicated content.
Anyway, we're using Moz's dashboard to give us insights into duplicate content.

Hi,
First of all, disavowing will have nothing to do with the number of duplication warnings you get. This can only affect inbound links and even then, you won't see any drop in these through Webmaster Tools.
What are you using to see the duplicate pages?

I have an issue with hubspot's blog platform and duplicate content.
It is redirecting all https to http and I am unable to change it, resulting in a lot of duplicate content. Has anyone else experienced this? If so, did you find a solution? Or does anyone have any suggestions?

Yahoo Store Beginner with "duplicate content" errors. Can I pay for support? $$$
Hi. I have a Yahoo store that seems to have many errors. We built the site for utility knowing NOTHING about SEO. We just started with MOZ and would love to PAY someone to help get us past the beginning stages. Is there someone familiar with the Yahoo! Store format that can charge us perhaps in hourly blocks to walk us through possible solutions to issues? One issue we are having... seems to be that our subsections which contain items that are the endpoints... I know of no way to label the sections anything but an "item". I'm wondering if this might be causing the "duplicate" error because a specific item is listed both in the section and on it's own page. please help! Thom 888-567-5194

Multiple Countries, Same Language: Receiving Duplicate Page & Content Errors
Hello! I have a site that serves three English-speaking countries, and is using subfolders for each country version: United Kingdom: https://site.com/uk/ Canada: https://site.com/ca/ United States & other English-speaking countries: https://site.com/en/ The site displayed is dependent on where the user is located, and users can also change the country version by using a drop-down flag navigation element in the navigation bar. If a user switches versions using the flag, the first URL of the new language version includes a language parameter in the URL, like: https://site.com/uk/blog?language=en-gb In the Moz crawl diagnostics report, this site is getting dinged for lots of duplicate content because the crawler is finding both versions of each country's site, with and without the language parameter. However, the site has rel="canonical" tags set up on both URL versions and none of the URLs containing the "?language=" parameter are getting indexed. So...my questions: 1. Are the Duplicate Title and Content errors found by the Moz crawl diagnostic really an issue? 2. If they are, how can I best clean this up? Additional notes: the site currently has no sitemaps (XML or HTML), and is not yet using the hreflang tag. I intend to create sitemaps for each country version, like: .com/en/sitemap.xml .com/ca/sitemap.xml .com/uk/sitemap.xml I thought about putting a 'nofollow' tag on the flag navigation element, but since no sitemaps are in place I didn't want to accidentally cut off crawler access to alternate versions. Thanks for your help!

How to change the compare date range on the keyword rankings report?
I'm new to SEO Moz, but not to SEO. I like SEOMoz's keyword rankings, but I also like to show clients improvement (hopefully) from the previous months' ranks. The default appears to be 1-week. How can you show improvement/decline from the previous month?

Crawl Diagnostics Summary shows around 15,000 duplicate content errors for one of my projects, It shows the list of pages with how many duplicate pages are there for each page. But i dont have a way of seeing what are the duplicate page URLs for a specific page without clicking on each page link and checking them manually which is gonna take forever to sort. When i export the list as CSV, duplicate_page_content column doest show any data. Can anyone please advice on this please. Thanks <colgroup><col width="1096"></colgroup>

How to Stop SEOMOZ from Crawling a Sub-domain without redoing the whole campaign?
I am using SEOMOZ for a client to track their website's performance and fix any errors and issues. A few weeks ago, they created a sub-domain (sub.example.com) to create a niche website for some of their specialized content. However, when SEOMOZ re-crawled the main domain (example.com), it also reported the errors for the subdomain. Is there any way to stop SEOMOZ from crawling the subdomain and only crawl the main domain? I know that can be done by starting a new campaign, but is there any way to work around an existing campaign? I'm asking because we would like to avoid the setting up the campaign again and losing the historical data as well. Any input would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Why is the crawler following form action links?
I have an issue with one of my sites where the SEOMoz crawler is following some form action links. It is my understanding that the crawler will ignore these links. Why would it not be ignoring them in certain cases. If you need more detail, please ask. Thanks.
