How can you tell how many pages rank for a particular keyword?
-
I know with ranktracker I can see a page that will rank for a certain keyword. What if I have multiple pages that rank for this keyword? How can I see all pages that rank for it?
-
These are kind of some big questions with a lot of possible answers. So I'll go with the most general response.
Top 40 Results:
That can be a terribly unrealistic goal, or one that's tough. If these are branded queries (e.g. Product/Service Your Brand), it will be tough even for an established brand. Someone else always sneaks in there, somehow.
Given that you've been tasked with doing that for hundreds of keywords, it sounds closer to the terribly unrealistic side of the spectrum.
Competition With Yourself:
It can be good and it can be bad. It really depends on the pages. Some pages can be better than others, given their purpose. So if you want someone to call and for some reason there isn't a phone number, they won't find what they need and you've lost the sale. If someone has many options from only one source, they may choose not to click at all for some reason.
Better KPIs:
A good KPI is something that's achievable and in line with real business goals. Good KPIs keep the lights on. Higher rankings don't always guarantee business goals will be met. Honestly, there's some real garbage pages out there that rank well for certain queries. You can virtually guarantee they aren't worth the cost of hosting.
Perhaps you want more service calls? Maybe you want to increase your email database? These are things that you have to establish with decision makers/stake holders within the business. A good set of performance indicators pay the bills. Rankings for the sake of rankings often deviate from that purpose.
Hopefully this was helpful.
Edit:
I forgot to touch on the .net to .com migration. There are a lot of variables there as well. I really don't know how well the migration was handled. If it was handled well, you might see some cached results from the .net version, but eventually everything will swing over to the .com.
If the migration wasn't handled well... you have a whole set of other problems.
-
Also I am being asked to check this against our old website which was a .net. We have just migrated to a .com. Is this going to yield mixed results?
-
What would be some better KPI's? I've been asked to get the top 40 results that rank for hundreds of keywords. Do you really want multiple pages ranking for the same keyword? Isn't that being in competition with yourself?

SEM Rush is one option, but it's a bit limited. Another option is using Advanced Web Ranking. Both deliver scraped ranking results, but AWR offers a little more flexibility and it runs locally. If you're impatient, or need to report in volume, you can purchase proxy IP addresses. I've made extensive use of AWR in the past, but I'm glad I don't have to use it anymore. I've long since established better KPIs.
In regard to AWR, you will have to configure it not to stop on the first positive result.

Unsolved Is the Keyword Explorer tool down?
Hi, I was supposed to work with researching keywords today. After researching a few queries in the Keyword Explorer, it stopped retrieving keywords and shows the message, “Getting keyword suggestions failed. Please retry your search or refresh this page”. The issue has persisted for a few hours. Thanks in advance.

Can you export a keyword rankings report with the keywords listed in order of ranking ?
My keyword ranking report shows the results all jumbled. I can put them in order when viewing the report online, but when I export it , the results go back to all jumbled rankings.

What's up with Yahoo and Bing in my keyword rankings?
SEOmoz is good I've learned a lot from it. I'm on my 3rd month and now have 8 keywords in top 50 for one site and 1 keyword in top 50 for another. This is for Google US. For Bing and Yahoo! US however I am still not in the top 50 for anything. I have read elsewhere that meta-tag page words can be regarded by these engines as a spam signal. In my meta I have used competative keywords that are relevant to my content, some of which are in the body, but are not my actual targeted keywords as a red-herring to potential competitors. Also might be usefull for other smaller places that still use meta-tags. Could not appearing in BingHoo! have something to do with their alogrithms and the meta-tags? or is it an SEOmoz issue? I have another question also. The " / " after a domain name doesn't appear in my Firefox address bar (I think I did a 301 redirect), but when I copy and paste it into an entry box (e.g. for a link submission) it puts the " / " there at the end which I take off. Does this make any difference?

Image Asset pages shown to have Page Authority
When looking at top pages for my site in www.opensiteexplorer.org I'm seeing a bunch of asset pages being listed to have page authority. How could this be? Is open site explorer mistaken? Too Many On-Page Links: Crawl Diag vs On-Page
I've got a site I'm optimizing that has thousands of 'too many links on-page' warnings from the SeoMoz crawl diagnostic. I've been in there and realized that there are indeed, the rent is too damned high, and it's due to a header/left/footer category menu that's repeating itself. So I changed these links to NoFollow, cutting my total links by about 50 per page. I was too impatient to wait for a new crawl, so I used the On Page Reports to see if anything would come up on the Internal Link Count/External Link Count factors, and nothing did. However, the crawl (eventually) came back with the same warning. I looked at the link Count in the crawl details, and realized that it's basically counting every single '<a href'="" on="" the="" page.="" because="" of="" this,="" i="" guess="" my="" questions="" are="" twofold:<="" p=""></a> <a href'="" on="" the="" page.="" because="" of="" this,="" i="" guess="" my="" questions="" are="" twofold:<="" p="">1. Is no-follow a valid strategy to reduce link count for a page? (Obviously not for SeoMoz crawler, but for Google)</a> <a href'="" on="" the="" page.="" because="" of="" this,="" i="" guess="" my="" questions="" are="" twofold:<="" p="">2. What metric does the On-Page Report use to determine if there are too many Internal/External links? Apologies if this has been asked, the search didn't seem to come up with anything specific to this.</a>

Why are these pages considered duplicate page content?
A recent crawl diagnostic for a client's website had several new duplicate page content errors. The problem is, I'm not sure where the error comes from since the content in the webpage is different from one another. Here's the pages that SEOMOZ reported to have duplicate page content errors: http://www.imaginet.com.ph/wireless-internet-service-providers-term http://www.imaginet.com.ph/antivirus-term http://www.imaginet.com.ph/berkeley-internet-name-domain http://www.imaginet.com.ph/customer-premises-equipment-term The only thing similar that I see is the headline which says "Glossary Terms Used in this Site" - I hope that the one sentence is the reason for the error. Any input is appreciated as I want to find out the best solution for my client's website errors. Thanks!

For the "On Page Report Card", Can I see a list of all of the recommendations?
On the "On Page Repord Card", in the "Page Analysis Detail" section, I can click "Read More" for each factor and see a "Recommendation" on how to fix the page to meet that factors criteria. Are these recommendations the same everytime or will they vary depending on the page itself? Can get a copy of each recommendation that would appear if none of the criteria were met? Thanks, Daniel.
