Need help please with url guidelines.

Hi SEO PROS,
I have a website and I am planing to change all the urls. I need to know what is the right way of making the urls. Here is some information.
We are based in Brooklyn NY and we sell our services to Manhattan clients and Manhattan has few names. NY, NYC, Manhattan and NY. So by looking at my service area I came up with this url. http://www.signsny.com/brooklyn-ny/awnings this is my current url.
http://www.signsny.com/sign-types/awnings-canopies-brooklyn-NYC. This is what I am planning to change it to.
Please guide me to the right direction, so in future I don't have to re-do them again.
Thanks
Abie

Good Morning,
Is there any way I can check which internal url is getting juice from back links? Is there a way to find out?
Thanks

Good morning,
I am changing the url structure because current url brooklyn-ny/awnings is not in a sub folder. brooklyn-ny suppose to be a category. This is the reason why we are changing he url structure. Google recommend sub folder hierarchy. Am I correct?
Thanks

Hi Tahir,
I would recommend against making this change actually. There is absolutely nothing wrong with the URLs. I can see that you might be considering doing a restructure that makes the type of product more prominent than the location in the subfolder hierarchy, but it isn't advisable to "stuff" keywords into the rest of the URL, e.g. awnings-canopies-brooklyn-NYC.
The existing structure, from my point of view, looks more professional and should not hinder the site's rankings. What is the reason why you're wanting to make the change?
Cheers,
Jane

Hi,
When looking to create location-based URL's, it is important to create a structure that you can follow throughout the site. You don't want to create something now, that means you are limited if you wish to expand further down the line.
What you have come up with there is a good URL, but do remember to back this up with a logical page title (Awnings and Canopies in Brooklyn and NYC). You can further add to this by mentioning it int he Meta Description and in the page copy as well.

Here are the few tips that I would like to share with you here with regards to URL creation.
- Keep the URL short long URLs might create problems with regards to indexing.
- Try to make your URL simply and easy as a person can guess what he/she will find on the page.
- Do not use special characters as these are not SEO friendly URL structure.
- Try not to stuff keywords within your URLs
Just keep these few recommendations in mind when creating URLs for your website. I personally don’t see any problem with your current URL structure and creating new URLs and 3019ng old to the new one will lose some of your link juice that might affect your current rankings.
Hope this helps!

Trailing Slashes on URLs
Hi everyone I have a question on trailing slashes in URL. The crux of it is this: is having both: example.com/subdirectory/ and: example.com/subdirectory on all of your subdirectories considered duplicate content by Google - or in some other way really bad? We have done a heck a lot of research into this, and it would seem...no one knows for sure (it is easy to get lost in a sea of Webmaster tool forums from 2012). Google itself has both URLs for it's subdirectories (try https://www.google.co.uk/maps and https://www.google.co.uk/maps/) as does Moz; and yet there are some rumblings on the internet of people who think you must put a 'redirect' (although not really a redirect as it isn't a 301) in your htaccess file to one or the other (so for example.com/subdirectory/ would 'forward' to example.com/subdirectory); and this is what bbc.co.uk do. We tried putting this htaccess 'forward' in as an experiment, but I noticed our site then stopped being fully crawled by Google bot, so we reversed it. Can any one shed any light?

Need joomla help. site rankings dropped since upgrade
Hi, really having problems here with www.in2town.co.uk our site was always in the top ten for a large number of important keywords and since our upgrade from joomla 1.5 a month ago to joomla 3.0 we have vanished out of a lot of the search engines for important keywords I am concerned that we could be doing something wrong. two of our important keywords is lifestyle magazine and also gastric band hypnotherapy, but we are nowhere to be seen for these keywords. I must be doing something wrong. The site is an old site, we have been around for many years and have always ranked well up until now. We use K2 and i am just wondering if we have set up things wrong. for example under this article it comes under the category of trip advisor http://www.in2town.co.uk/trip-advisor/t ... -term-stay now when you delete the article name and just keep the trip advisor you get a list of the articles and i am wondering if this is damaging my site. http://www.in2town.co.uk/trip-advisor any help in helping me to understand why my site has dropped in rankings would be great.

/out/ URLs in GWMTs
I am recently seeing some URLs come up as 404s in GWMTs for a client. They look like this: http://client-url/out/www.linkedin.com/company/client-linkedin-name /out/client-url/sub-directory/postname/ We thought they might have something to do with the social plugins but they are all over the place and they are sometime for internal pages on the site. Anyone run into these and know why they are happening?

HTML url extension
I've read some information about the extension of an url. But i couldn't find a clear answer. What is better for SEO, an extension with html or without? /make-money-online/how-to-make-a-million-dollars-in-1-year/ or /make-money-online/how-to-make-a-million-dollars-in-1-year.html/ Is there a difference between a normal website or a blog?
