Local SEO?
-
Hello everyone,
I've just been through the Moz Local learning area, which is pretty informative. However, a lot of it seems like good practice for general online marketing (mobile friendly websites, goals per page...).
I'm new to all this - am I missing the point?

Hi William,
Good question! Let me give a definition of Local SEO that I think may be helpful.
Local SEO is good SEO + geography.
What does this mean? If you're familiar with SEO best practices, nearly all are directly applicable to Local. You'll need:
-
An optimized, crawlable, high quality website
-
A presence on other websites, namely via the building of citations on local business directory-type sites, but also via other types of websites such as industry publications, local blogs, etc.
-
In competitive niches, links and social
-
A plan for ongoing content development.
All of this is, indeed, just good design, usability, SEO and SEM, but the main difference is that geography is at the heart of what you're doing in each of the above practices. You're not trying to rank for the world, for the US, for a whole state; you are trying to rank for a specific city or a number of specific cities, and so everything you do must reflect this.
SEO is an excellent lead-in to learning Local SEO, because so many of the best practices you've already learned will be directly applicable. Does this help answer your question? If not, please let me know. I helped create the Moz Local Learning Center and if you've found something about it to be unclear, I'd be happy to chat further!

White-hat SEO (which Moz is completely about) incorporates good general marketing practices (like mobile experience, design, CRO...) Moz Local is a tool that will get and maintain your most important online citations for your business. These citations hold value for local search results for your business.

Thanks Dave!
I was just thinking what were the differences between SEO and Local SEO, as the technical stuff you mention I assume is part of both.
Blood, Sweat and Tears - not sure. Cake perhaps?

Local SEO & Google Maps Question - 1 Company with Multiple Google Pages
Hey Mozzers! I'm working with a client who has 2 websites (different URLs completely), which one is for all parts and the other is for accessories only. They have multiple brick and mortar locations throughout the US and have done a nice job creating Google My Business pages for each and all verified. Their question is will it benefit them to create and verify another GMB page with same address, but place in "Suite B", a new phone number and apply the other URLs for the accessories site. The business name would also be different, but similar meaning Business 1 = ABC where as Business 2 = ABC Accessories. Their goal would be to try to have both rank or display to improve their local SEO. In theory it sounds like it will work given NAP would be satisfied within the GMB, but wanted to get the Moz community thoughts on this first before moving forward. Look forward to the replies. Spaces between Letters and Numbers SEO question
This is a fun one - Example: Mercedes Benz is pushing to have all of there vehicle models to coincide with the world branding such as the "C300" is supposed to be "C 300" and the "E300" is supposed to be "E 300"... I have a few issues here as when I use Voice Search for "Mercedes Benz C 300" there is no way (that I know of) to add a space between the number and letter. In addition, when searching for the "C 300 for sale" Google corrects the text with "Did you mean: C300 for sale". I am seeking a way to accommodate both versions of the models WITHOUT adding the both C300 and C 300...etc. to the text on web pages. OR will Google eventually change the model names over time as Mercedes-Benz regulates the new U.S. naming convention. Tough question - any thoughts? Thank you for your help -

Is there a benefit SEO and ranking-wise in putting a free SEO audit tool on your homepage?
Hi everyone, I work for a digital marketing agency in Australia. Our team noticed some businesses similar to ours use a free SEO Audit tool on their homepages. We are considering having one as well but, but want to know how it would benefit us. Will adding this tool on our home page help us rank better in Google? If yes, can you please tell us how? Thank you.

How to market web design and SEO company locally
Hello, I'm looking for easy (yah right, correct?) ways to market locally my web solutions company. I do web design, E-commerce web design, and I start informational and E-commerce companies for people starting at $1000/month - only new companies, later I'll do a little more E-commerce stuff. Looking for inexpensive, fairly easy ways to market locally. Thanks!

Local Seo Start Up?
Hi I've recently started a Web design and Local SEO business in the UK and would love some advice on best practices and resources to do best by my clients. The last thing I want to do is get their site banned or penalised by Google. In the past I have used article marketing to get 100s of backlinks but I understand it isnt that simple anymore.I might add that I always did SEO for my own sites, never offered it as a service to others. So, I'm less reluctant to take chances. From looking at the competition in the local market I won't have to get too many backlinks to outrank most other companies. Just need to get the right good quality links. I am fairly experienced with onsite SEO. ANy advice or relevant resources would be greatly appreciated.
